View Full Version : Tigerhonaker Just Purchased a 2007 Honda Accord Hybrid:
tigerhonaker 08-11-2007, 01:35 PM Hi Accord HAH Members:
Take-Delivery This Coming Week:
Well there have been different ones of you that wanted to know what I was doing. I have been trying to purchase a 2007 HAH (Honda Accord Hybrid) for the past Two-Weeks. There were 3-In this Zone when I started the Negotations with my local dealer. When the Final-Numbers were (Agreed-Upon) there was {1-Left} PERIOD. After two days of calling the dealer in Ga. to dealer trade for it, finally the dealer called back and agreed to trade and release the HAH. So talk about the Last-Moment.
I traded in my 12K mile HCH II that most of you have seen Pics of and Threads/Post about on www.GreenHybrid.com & www.CleanMPG.com
It was a very nice Hybrid and it did get some Great FE. It was Loaded with Every-Honda-Factory-Option.
What it was not ever going to do in my or your Life-Time was be FAST or anything resembling Fast. Sorry HCH I & HCH II Owners. But that is the TRUTH and if you own either model you adjust to it's Capabilities. Most of the time it is not a Problem. But believe me it is a Major Problem In Heavy Traffic, Multi-Lane Interstates with Traffic running 75-85 MPH and all over the place. Makes one or me a little Nervous.
So when I read that the 2007 HAH was going to be the (Very-Last-Year) I decided to get off my butt and make the move. I have driven the HAH's many times over the past yrs. I Love the way the car runs and handles. It is Quiet and you can get out of Harms-Way when Necessary.
Another thing that I wanted was "White" on the "Outside" and a Light Color on the Inside. It has been like in the low 100 plus Degree Temps here and going to be this coming week. I want COOL.
Another thought comes to my mind regarding my decision on the HAH. I also was going to consider the Honda E-XL V-6 with Nav. But I looked at the numbers for FE and what people really got for their FE that owned it. So decided to go with the HAH for these reasons.
Fuel Economy for a High-Performance Vehicle
Its Horsepower
IMA Assist
Ability to shut down 3-of-the-6 Cyclinders for Economy
Right Size Car, Not too big, Not too small
Very Quiet Engine
Very Quiet Interior
Love the Appointments in the Interior
Fit & Finish get a Plus 10
I like the Dual-Exhaust w/Chrome-Tips
I like the 3rd Brake-Light Design
I like the HAH only Brakelights, Very Nice
Honda Nav gets a Plus-10
Dash gets a Plus-10; Very Easy to Read
Outside of HAH is just a KNOCK-OUT Appearance to me
Hey let's not (Forget) the "outside-Mirrors" with Turn Indicators
Dual-Purpose Hybrid= Performance & FE=Driver Picks Which
Also thought about the Lexas 450h. I got to drive one at Hybridfest 2006. What a car !!!!!!!!! Talk about Performance in a Hybrid. So what put the Binders on ???? Two-Things:
(1) Price, Double the HAH
(2) No Fe Period, HAH can get FE if you want it
Already spoke of the Honda EX-L V-6. Nice car but not very good FE compared to the HAH, IMO
Just to mention a few things here on this Post.
The HCH II I had did not seem to work right with the IMA System. Dealer Replaced the ECM/PCM you Pick. The CVT IMO was not working Correctly. It seemed to kinda pause when held wide open to Accelerate. I drove a New 2007 HCH II and it did not operate the same as my HCH II. So with me saying that, I decided since the HCH II had only just reached the 12K in mileage it was time to make a move. The CVT's might be just fine but in all Honesty I think (I-Know) I prefer a more Normal Trans. Like the HAH has. I think there is room for Improvement on the CVT's from all manufacturers, Honda included. Never told anyone this but I was on the Interestate driving one morning and all of a "SUDDEN" everyone {STOPS} !!!!!!!! No the HCH II did not {STOP}. Well not behind the vehicle directly in front of me. Thankfully I am still pretty darn quick with my Reflexes and went to the Left-on-The-Shoulder and Stopped. What I am saying is this. IMO the HCH II does not STOP real Quick.
So that is another reason I traded it off:
The comments I have made here are not intended to get any Member on the "War-Path" that happens to own the HCH I or HCH II. I am talking about {ME} only and why I made the decision to Purchase the HAH. What I hope that does not take place on this Thread is a (BATTLE) between the HAH Owners and the HCH Owners. I was asked what and why I was trading the HCH II. My replies are Honest, but do not Represent other HCH Owners. Enough-Said !!!!!!!!!
The HAH is Premium-White-Pearl W/Ivory Leather Interior.
(1) Mud Guards
(2) Fog Lights
(3) Premium Floor Mats
(4) Auto-Dimming-Mirror
(5) Sylvania 9005SU BP TWIN Silverstar Ultra, Twin Pack
Sylvania 9006SU BP TWIN Silverstar Ultra, Twin Pack
Here are Pics made this morning of my New 2007 HAH with Nav. It came in Last-Night to Darrell Waltrip Honda in Franklin, TN. Part of the Hendrick Group.
These were taken with my Cell-Phone. Better than nothing::thumbsup: http://www.greenhybrid.com/discuss/showthread.php?t=14858

I am a Mod on www.cleanMPG.com and a Platinum Contributor.
However if you would like me to not Post here on this Forum and you are a Mod or Admin here just let me know.
I thought it might be the Forum to meet other Accord Hybrid Owners. If you check you will see I have been a Member here for a long time. I use to own a 6-Sp. Honda Accord Coupe Loaded-Up. Actually 2-of them. Plus a number of Honda Civic Si's. Not to forget the Hybrid Civics I have owned. I could go on but believe me you would soon tire from reading the list. It is very long.
Not to mention the other vehicles I have owned over the past 44-Yrs.
Hope this answers your CONCERNS and Puts your-mind at rest:
You might find this Strange but most Admins invite me to post on their Forums.

Might be that I was Very-Involved with the Start-Up of www.CleanMPG.com that I am personal friends of the Owners. I spent a lot of my personal time to help get info. posted for New Threads on that Forum. They needed the Assistance and at the time I had the Free Time to help them. That site/Forum is up and running on it's own. So I can now look around to see what Forums I would like to be Active on. This was one of them.
Question ?????????
What exactly are you to this Specific-Forum ????

Peace,
Hey I did once upon a time fly out to Dallas and pick up a Turbo Volvo with the (Electric-Overdrive) trans. A buddy of mine relocated there with his then girl friend and went to work for a Multi-Line-Dealer. Stayed for a week with them and looked at the city lights and the multi-colored buildings. Very striking when one was more use to a smaller city. The guy was a sales rep for a Mercedes/Porsche/Audi dealer here in Nashville, TN. I bought an Audi & a 911 Turbo Porsche from him. Yes the Porsche was a Very Bright Red, All I forgot to mention the AMG Mercedes that I have also owned. Now there is a ride. I had the smaller cheaper ones but they were Great IMO.
Say with me not being on this Forum as a poster, are there many owners of the HAH here ?????? :dunno:
Take Care and my GUNS are also at this point put away:

leave your other forum links out if you are honestly not spamming for other forums.

tigerhonaker 08-11-2007, 05:23 PM Hey people drop the Spam thing. It is not necessary believe me. I came here to talk/discuss HAH's with hopefully other owners. If there are no HAH owners here on this forum then I am waisting my time and yours.
Get a grip and try your best to get beyond this spam thing with new people. Why not try to discuss the new members vehicle with them and see from that point how it goes. Then all these post regarding spam would not have been posted and as you would have found out not necessary.
So are there members here that like to discuss the Honda Accord Hybrid ??? :dunno:
If so I would very much like to talk with you and get your impression of what you think of the car. I have driven them only on test drives and one time had the opportunity to keep one for two days. It was a fun ride and the performance was great for a hybrid or for that matter a non-hybrid. I have not gotten mine yet as the link to greenhybrid would show in the pictures. that was the reason for the link. I copied and posted the Thread from there to here but this Forum did not allow the pictures to show up. So I did the link so anyone could see the complete thread with pictures. cleanmpg was mentioned because for the members on other forums they know that car and me. It was a point of reference only. I am not here to promote any other forum. I hope this clears some of the unrest here with certain members.
Now maybe I can get members to talk about their Accord Hybrids which is why I came here in the 1st place.
If you members here are not aware of it this is the last year for the Accord Hybrid. So there were not a lot of them produced or sold over the few years they were built. I have posted on multiple forums in the hope that I might just stumble on one that some of the members own the Hybrid Accord and like discussing same.
So let me say this, you approached me with your guns pulled and I reacted just like any of you would have. I personally give a person the benefit of doubt until they prove me wrong and then at that point I will react. So maybe we can all get back to Car-Talk and settle down here and forget about SPAM for once and all. Please.

stiller fan 08-11-2007, 05:40 PM blueasian,
according to tiger, he doesn't have it in his possession as of yet....
he had pics of it wrapped up at the dealership's lot.... :)
i wonder with hypermiling techniques, what his MPG will be later on after the car fully breaks in (10-15k miles)....

there is another person on here that checks in on occasion, that is very very very PRO hypermiling....
xcel is the name.... know that guy?
YES, I know him well and went to Hybridfest 2006 and stayed in his home. The problem is xcel (Wayne Gerdes) and I have I guess to put this in a kind way do not see eye to eye on the subject of (HYPERMILING) and never will. I would prefer not to say anything negative here regarding xcel and his philosophy on that given subject. I can still look at Wayne and talk with him but I have to never ever bring up the subject of (HYPERMILING). If we ever actually got into the meat of that subject he would not ever more than likely speak to me again. I would be instantly (BANNED) from his forum and it should be obvious he would remove me as a Mod there. So we do not ever discuss that specific subject.
I think that should clear up me trying to promote that forum from here. It is not been my intent. I mentioned the other forums in my post on my new 07 HAH because they were nothing more than points of information to anyone that had ever been a member on either forum.
Does this without me getting any deeper let you know where I stand ???
I hope so. It will be easier for me to be here and you members to settle down. I'm not here to promote (HYPERMILING) period in any form or fashion.
I'm here as my last I think post stated to hopefully find other HAH owners and talk about my and their cars.
Terry (tiger)
BTW, What I am not here for is to cause a lot of unrest between members and me.

I see that you now have the LX with the 4 cylinder in it. I am driving a 07 EX-L w/4 Cyl. It and I guess yours has the 5-sp. auto. trans. in it. Very smooth and runs just fine. It is their car I am just driving it. My HCH II is locked and staying at dealer.
As to your questions.
No HAH yet. I did get to go by early this morning and visit it for a few minutes (No-one-was-looking)
Actually I was checking on it to make sure they parked it in a safe parking place. It was and I left.
I can answer one of your questions. Price:
Well I guess that all depends on what anything is worth to the buyer. :dunno: I wanted to get rid of the Very-Slow HCH II and get back into a much Faster Car. I also wanted a couple of other things.
(1) Fuel Economy to some degree. Does not have to be 50 MPG but I did not want a car that got like, 16-18 mpg either. The HAH will I think (hope) do a lot better with me driving it. Well if I keep my foot out of it that is. Now at 1st I think that will be hard to do. But after I get done with playing around with it I think I will use some sign of restraint. Maybe :naughty:
(2) I did not want a car that burnt 93 octane. :thumbsdow The HAH has the HP and burns 87 Octane. So another win.
Honda has a great nav. system and in fact maybe the best that is out there. So the HAH has all the options that I want on a car and the performance to go with it on 87 octane gas. Now is it worth the extra monies ??? Who is to say. To me it is but to another it would seem no would be the answer. The public did not ever really go for it in large numbers. So Honda is dropping it after 07 and I decided to bite the bullet and get one. I was really close though being to late on my decision. I got the last one in my zone with the color combination I wanted. In fact I would have passed completely if I could have not gotten the Pearl-White.
If there is a Honda dealer near you and they still have one of the HAH's I suggest you test drive one for yourself. I think you will be very surprised with the way it performs and drives. I do not have mine but I have driven the 06's a couple of times. I was very impressed.
I think the car is very expensive and I think a person really has to want one to foot the bill for it.
Terry
Succinct 08-11-2007, 07:11 PM I think I've seen a few posts from people on this forum with HAHs, so don't give up. The HAH is not really my cup of tea overall, but I definitely like the unique little touches such as the tails and RV mirrors.
The spam thing threw me at first but the O.P.'s style is a bit unusual. IMHO promotional links should be in one's signature if anywhere, not in the bodies of post-after-post. But I am not a moderator, that's for sure.
(edited to remove "worthless" smiley - I re-read the thread (God help me) and finally saw the photo link. Call me lazy, but I much prefer embedded pics over links).
VMA131Marine 08-11-2007, 07:11 PM You know I don't know of another member here with a Hybrid Accord now that I think about it........does anyone?

Congrats on your new HAH! It is a great car. I got my '06 HAH in April last year and now have 30k miles on it and am averaging 32.9 mpg.
Does your HAH have Nav? If so, the price seems good. However, I paid $27,733 + tax, title, & tags for my non-nav HAH; the dealer had two on the lot and was apparently very motivated to sell them.
tigerhonaker 08-11-2007, 08:17 PM Yep! Me!
I have been reading the forum since I got my HAH in April '06 but have not posted extensively.
Well I don't believe my eyes, hear is an owner of a HAH. So what words for a new HAH owner would you share regarding your experience with your car ?
Mine has not been delivered to me as yet. This coming week I will take delivery.
I'm real interested in owners that have had their HAH for some time to see what they have to say.
It has the Nav. How do you drive your HAH ? Example: Fast-Moderate-Slow for FE (fuel economy)
Say do you know is there any difference at all between the 06 and the 07 HAH ?
Terry
BTW, I was hoping there would be more owners here that have the HAH but I guess not. Have you talked to others on this Forum that have the HAH?
James.uk 08-12-2007, 06:05 AM Hi Terry....
With the new Honda diesel on the near horizon what made you go for a hybid?? I don't know how they rate in the US but over here hybrids are just a bad joke.. The only people who buy them already own about a dozen huge gass guzzlers and get a hybrid in an attenpt to appear "green" heh heh..
$30k is a hell of a lot of money, and gets you what? 32-36 mpg ish? ouch! My ZX diesel auto cost me £800, that's approx $1,600.. Dimensionaly it is the same width, but being a hatchback (which I prefer) it's about 18 inches shorter than my Accord. And not only does my ZX return 55 mpg on an Mway run, (ave 46 mpg ish) but it runs on %100 veg oil and easily passes the EU emission tests every year
Diesel engines are the answer to mpg.. That's a fact. I noticed on the bumph about emissions that Honda claim their new diesel meets the new EU standards? And the car has been accepted for import to the US? so logically, the EU standard is equal to, or higher than, the US requirements? That being the case, as all Uk diesels meet the same EU regs, why can't you (The people in the US) buy one if you wish to do so??? :dunno: In the UK more than 50% of the population are now driving diesel powered cars. I don't know what the figures are for EU but they are probably very similar..
As for Hypermiling.. there's no such thing :dunno:.. Letting a car run in neutral is called "freewheeling" and always has been.. People used to do it when i was a lad (200 yrs ago! lol) but it was considered a dangerous practice and is now illegal in the UK.. The save-a-dime-freewheelers have made up new words in the hope others would be impressed.. It failed miserably with me though.. :D :lmao: :naughty:

Hi James,
From the UK :D
(1) With the new Honda diesel on the near horizon what made you go for a hybid??
Reply: Could care less about a Honda Diesel. :thumbsdow
(2) $30k is a hell of a lot of money, and gets you what? 32-36 mpg ish? ouch!
Reply: Your right it is a lot of money. So your point is exactly what? :dunno:
.........I wanted it so I signed up and do not regret for 1-second doing it. If you do not like the HAH and "You" think it is too "Expensive", Don't buy one:
(3) In the UK more than 50% of the population are now driving diesel powered cars.
Reply:
I think if you will look at the difference in fuel prices from around the World you can see the USA is less expensive. UK is $7.15 a Gallon Versus USA at $3.10 a Gallon. So we here buy & drive what we prefer not always dictated by FE (Fuel-Economy) as in the UK where you live. The HAH is not just a car for FE, it is also a high performance 253/255 HP 6-cylinder car. Made to drive fast if one likes and also has the ability to get decent FE.

Been great chatting with you here. Always a pleasure to hear from those across the pond.

I like your post. Well some of it. Hybrids as a whole may be a joke as far as performance in your mind. However you might want to take a test drive in the Lexas 450h hybrid or the Lexus LS 600h L hybrid. And let us not forget the HAH. All these hybrids get the job done but one needs a very large bank-roll to get on board with one of them.
Mercedes has a diesel that does a decent job on the performance side also. It is the Mercedes-Benz E320CDI and it does (0 to 60 in 6.6 seconds).
So are the hybrids for everyone ???? NO :dunno:
Is the diesel car for everyone ??? NO :dunno:
But don't discount them so quick they run great and at the same time get FE so one can drive them cheaper and longer on a gallon of fuel.

hybrids are a joke to me at all levels. not just performance, I know "most" people on the road in a small/midsized car don't need 200+ hp. they are the answer to absolute zero issues. they don't eliminate the need for oil/gasoline, etc. at all. not even close. the civic GX is more along the lines of an answer to the problem we are led to believe is the ultimate problem of the environment, economy, etc. etc. in my opinion.
drive them cheaper and longer on a gallon of fuel? how long will it take you, or someone with a civic hybrid to actually save money based on the FE of the car offsetting the premium price you paid for it? most calculations indicate somewhere in the area of 225K miles before you saved one cent.

I see and read what you are saying and I to some degree will go along with you. I'm not here to promote Hybrids but just thought when I read your post that you were of the opinion that they were all slow and they were designed for FE. Some of them were not just for FE.
I see that you have the 6-Sp Accord. Great car I think. I did think about it but the traffic I have to put up with changed my mind. I had/owned two of the 6-Speed Accord Coupe's. One red and one silver. They had the Nav. and the Honda body kit with fogs etc. Nice rides and fun to drive. Also had a few of the Manual Si's and they were fun to drive.
I really like the interior in the 6-speed Accord. It is fine.

Now for all the responses: "If you don't like it then don't keep visiting the forum." :paranoid:
As for the HAH, as tiger calls it, it is a bit pricey, but that is what he wanted to spend his money on. Sure, it doesn't get incredible fuel economy, but it is pretty good for the kind of performance you can get out of it. It's still a better choice than a lot of other vehicles on the market!
zroger73 08-13-2007, 04:23 AM tigerhonaker,
I thought the point of buying a hybrid was to save money on fuel expenses and reduce emissions? Isn't any savings realized on the HAH in these areas sorta negated by all the money you lose in depreciation by trading vehicles so often? I mean, even if you're wealthy enough to pay cash for every vehicle you buy, I get the feeling you're not making very wise investment decisions. Not really my problem, just a curious observation.
cforez 08-13-2007, 07:17 AM To me, the Accord Hybrid makes the most sense out of all the hybrids. The break even point of gas savings to the hybrid cost premium is so far in the future so you might as well go after some fun too.
The thing about IMA, is that when you punch it with the IMA charged, you get instant torque. My friend's 2005 HAH stomps my 2006 EX-V6 in 30-50 and 50-70 acceleration. Then when driven gently, he gets around 6 mpg city and 14 mpg highway better than me. A smaller trunk is a big disadvantage though.
Unfortunately for Honda, the typical hybrid buyer is someone who wants to maximize fuel economy, and also wants unique styling to show everyone that they are driving a hybrid.

James,
I don't feel his reply was rude at all, just truthful and to the point.
Where you live oil burners (diesels) are the Holy Grail of automobile engines. Over here they are meant for large work vehicles like pickup trucks and huge 18 wheel tractor/trailers. Other than the oddball VW diesel here and there folks don't give a damn about diesels.
As far as "wasting" money on a hybrid - that is strictly in the eye of the beholder. In your country a car is an appliance and it must be as thrifty as possible, style and performance are non issues for the most part. Here fuel economy is desirable but very possibly the last consideration when purchasing. Style, performance, ergonomics, come before the allmighty miles per gallon.
Last but not least it's HIS MONEY!!!! That says it all.
stevencrosbie 08-13-2007, 02:54 PM One of the only reasons I didn't buy the HAH is the trunk. I need the space.
My mom's 07 Civic Hybrid is excellent. She averages over 57 MPG on every tank and she loves it to death. Yeah, maybe it takes a while to break even, but really, I'd rather give the money to Honda and their R&D branch rather than the Oil companies' "spoiled kids" pockets.
James.uk 08-13-2007, 03:56 PM Hi Tex..
>>>I don't feel his reply was rude at all, just truthful and to the point.<<<
Maybe it's a locality thing? A comment like that would certainly cause offense among my friends. Personaly i would have said something like.. "personaly I am not overkeen on diesel engines and given the choice I prefered the HAH" :)
>>>Where you live oil burners (diesels) are the Holy Grail of automobile engines. Over here they are meant for large work vehicles like pickup trucks and huge 18 wheel tractor/trailers. Other than the oddball VW diesel here and there folks don't give a damn about diesels.<<<
It's no longer that simple is it Tex? I drove Jags most of my life, but given the worldwide need to reduce oil consumption, the threat of global warming, the fact that oil prices are going to rocket when China gets mobalised etc etc I had to rethink my personal choices. As indeed most people have here. So exit the v12 Jag and enter the ZX diesel. :(

Again that's a bit oversimplistic ref the UK. We still have people living in cities driving Hummers, Bentlys, R Royces, Aston Martins etc etc 1/4 mile each way to go shopping etc etc, but now they are considered very anti social by the vast majority of UK people, and legal steps are being sought to stop that kind of waste and ott polution.. The world we live in is changing..
>>>Last but not least it's HIS MONEY!!!! That says it all.<<<
My point had nothing to do with his "personal" choice, I merely pointed out that the Hybrid cars are not the answer to good FE that they were claimed to be. In the broader world markets they fail to deliver all that was promised. There are numerous petrol engined cars that already surpass them in the FE dept, so what do they really have to offer the general public that's worth paying more for?
>>>My mom's 07 Civic Hybrid is excellent. She averages over 57 MPG on every tank and she loves it to death. <<< :notworthy
Now that IS impressive.. so I have to make an exception, the Civic hybrid does what it says on the tin!! :)

RTexasF 08-13-2007, 04:22 PM Well James I'll soon get a taste of it London style about a month from now. Once landed at Heathrow we will take 3-4different trains to get to our destination near Oakham. I have been on a train once in my 58 years on the planet and never been on a subway (the underground) so it will be all new to me.
We are spoiled here......you want to go 1500 miles? Just get in the car and go! I've a feeling this Yank will have his eyes opened big time!
VMA131Marine 08-13-2007, 04:26 PM Well I don't believe my eyes, hear is an owner of a HAH.
I absolutely love my HAH, but I have a somewhat schizophrenic driving style. Most of the time I work at maximising the fuel economy of my HAH and have been rewarded with numbers significantly above the EPA highway mileage of 34 mpg. My commute is 42 miles each way, about 20 miles on rural two lane highway and the rest on the interstate. By sticking to the speed limits my fuel economy for the round trip is usually between 35 and 38 mpg. Some mild hypermiling (mostly drafting) gets me up over 40 mpg. I recently did a 500 mile round trip that achieved 38.8 mpg just by setting the cruise control and maintaining a speed between 65 and 68 mph.
On days that I am rushing, then it's nice to have the power and acceleration that the HAH provides, but driving like this drops my fuel economy into the low 30s.

Out of all the post here jumping all over me (Seemed that Way) here you are out of the blue with these very wise thoughts.
I have to ask what state do you live in ? And what is your 1st name ?
This Forum IMHO could learn from members like you.
I am a member on a lot of Forums and it is unfortunate that in many cases the New Member is over (Scrutinized) by usually the members that are in the (Click). If you say anything on the front end that rubs them in the wrong way they "Close-Ranks" and usually one way or the other get rid of that New Member. I think from your post here that you saw and felt exactly what I have. Me being one of the newer members here as far as posting goes.
But enough on that subject for now. Members like you very quickly make up for others that have been less than (Friendly) on the front end.
I'll stick around here for awhile and see if things lighten-up with the older members. I think once they realize that I am not a threat to them or the forum things may smooth out. I have Faith:

zroger,
I bet you realize that your post could possibly be taken very negatively by me.
But I will just reply as if you are being serious and just asking me and saying what you think regarding the savings by purchasing the Honda Accord Hybrid and all the other vehicles I have owned over the yrs.
I thought the point of buying a hybrid was to save money on fuel expenses and reduce emissions?
Well here goes. The car will do all that but I think what you really want me to comment on regarding the car is this. The price IMO far out weighs any savings the owner might have with the slight increase in FE (fuel economy). As far as Emissions go it is right up there at the top.
Isn't any savings realized on the HAH in these areas sorta negated by all the money you lose in depreciation by trading vehicles so often? I have to wonder how many other members here would answer this part of your post and not be very sarcastic in doing so. But I think I will not go in that direction and choose to give you an honest reply.
I am 62 yrs old and do not have any children and my wife and I have a decent income. 6-figure income. We do have investments. And as you have read the few post here that I have done you have been quick to pick up on that I have had a great number of New Vehicles over all these yrs. Here comes the honest part, I would be the 1st to tell you that buying all these new vehicles is just simply {RIDICULOUS}. I think that one word will suffice to reply to your curious observation. Now would I do the exact same thing again ? NO !!!!! But we all live and learn as the yrs. go by in our lives and hopefully we can pass on to others some of the mistakes we have made, (So-They-Don't).
So I am not sure if I answered you or not here but at least I did give it a try. :dunno:

Hi RTexasF,
I might just stick around here awhile longer after reading this post.
Actually I would have used a lot more (Diplomacy) in my reply to James in the UK if his post did not rub me the wrong way. I said what I thought but at the same time I was kinda getting tired of what seemed at the time all the negative remarks to me on post. So I wish in away I had replied but in a friendlier manner. I get so tired of hearing about hybrids and the term (Hypermiling). Just because you buy a hybrid does not mean you are one of the people that chooses to practice Hypermiling. I bought the Honda Accord Hybrid because it is Fast and at the same time can deliver fuel economy of the Honda 4-cylinder. That to me is a win-win. Plus I like all the things that come on the Hybrid Accord. It is a loaded up luxury car with the get up and go of a sports sedan. You don't get all of this cheap. It cost to have this technology and the consumer is going to pay to play.
Well, thanks for your comments here. :D

VMA131Marine,
Thanks for the comments. I have read where other members on other forums have gotten really great fuel economy with their Honda Accord Hybrids.
I want both things from mine, Speed when needed and fuel economy when I want it. I really like the Honda navigation. This car has it. I get lost and turned around really easy in a strange city. So the Honda navigation is great for people like me. I need it and use it when ever I travel.
I pick up my car tomorrow evening with the wife after work.
I'm excited about this car. I have test driven them over the years they have been out but was always to tight to spend the money they demand to own one. When I confirmed this was the very last year for it, I new my time was up. So here I am going to be an owner of one at last.

Hope I see more post from you as time goes on. Don't be a stranger I am friendly (most-of-the-Time). :)
stevencrosbie 08-13-2007, 06:52 PM We really do welcome you here. Sorry for the harsh words in the thread, but hybrids are a sore subject here on the forum.

messfeeder 08-13-2007, 10:26 PM  Hi messfeeder,
I am trying to find the right words for your comments here. I think the best I can come up with is this: This is from (The-Heart) Thank-You for your kind words.
Terry
Well, I can't say that I agree with the way that you snapped back at a couple of 'em, but I don't blame you. You even said that you would have replied differently if you weren't rubbed the wrong way. What do they expect? I'm sure the SPAM gets annoying, but I would at least give someone the benefit of the doubt and see if they continue to post useful messages before I jumped all over them. But I'm sure all that is behind us now? :dunno:
But on topic, I loved the Accord Hybrid the first time I saw it at the dealer. I think that a lot of people don't understand that the Accord Hybrid isn't strictly built for fuel economy. It is a sport sedan that gets better fuel economy than it would if it were strictly gas motor. Do you ever break even in fuel savings? Probably not, but you're paying for that extra power.
To answer your questions: I live in So. Cal., but I don't feel comfortable giving out my name over the Internet.:paranoid: I know, I'm paranoid, but I just feel more comfortable when people know me as messfeeder.

messfeeder,
Okay messfeeder it is then. You are right in that I could have been more polite in some of my post back to some of the members on the front end. I-Agree. :D Also as you said I think finally all that is going to drop to the way side now that both sides have LOWERED-Their-Weapons.
The Accord Hybrid is exactly what you describe in your post. It is a sports sedan and I think few members here realize this but the Hybrid Accord is Faster than the E-XL V-6 Accord with the gas only engine. The Honda Hybrid has an additional 100 Foot Lbs. of torque at like 1,000 RPM. So it is really quick off the line. Not a high performance car like the BMW M-3 or cars like that. It is fast though compared to other more normal cars.
It is expensive though and that is why I have not purchased one until now. Time was very quickly running out. So I made the move at the last second.
Pick it up this evening !!!!!!!!!!!:thumbsup::banana:
Take Care,
Terry
I use my real 1st name but I live in a smaller City so it is no big deal here.

stevencrosbie 08-14-2007, 07:08 PM I loved white in the Accord. Great choice! You truley have a unique car, as there are not many Hybrid + Navi owners. Nice car!

I did look at the hybrid and it would be my choice in a sedan.
Here in Canada we have rebates of 2000-4000 on the hybrids, which
would make them equilavent in price to the standard accord.
Fantastic car and will be very unique.I would have purchased
one if they came in the coupe.
Enjoy your new ride.

Damm,
It is a Great Hybrid. I really like the convience of the 4-door. But hey I am OLDER. :) I did do alright on the purchase I think. $22,000 allowance on my 2006 HCH II and $33,000 for the HAH. So I am satisfied. You can move the numbers around but it makes no-difference because as we all know it is the Bottom-Line that counts. How Much do I owe ??? :dunno:
You know I don't think there are any Hybrids in Coupes. I do not just mean the Honda's I mean by anyone. I cannot remember ever seeing any. I know there are a few High Performance Hybrids that sale for like $100,000.00 each. I'm not at home so I cannot look up the name of those Hybrids. If you do want to know I will be glad to look up the names when I get home this evening. Just let me know. I guess that would be cool though to have a Accord Coupe with a Hybrid Power Source. RED would be nice. Bright Red that is:

Tesla: 500 Roadsters And Counting
By Matt Nauman
Monday, July 23rd, 2007 at 6:00 pm in Tesla Motors.
Word this afternoon that Tesla Motors, the SV EV startup, now has taken deposits for 560 roadsters. Spokesman David Vespremi says the automaker remains on track to deliver its first vehicle this fall. Word on the specific delivery date of Job 1 could come soon.
He also cleared up a bit of confusion. There was a sense that Tesla had sold out its very limited first model-year run, and was now taking deposits on its second model-year roadsters.
In fact, Vespremi says, Tesla has the capacity at the Lotus factory in the U.K. to make 800 roadsters in the first year, and all 800 of them will be 2008 models. That includes the Signature 100, the first 100 models that’ll come with special badges.
If you haven’t read about the Tesla Roadster, it’s all electric, will go from 0 to 60 mph in about 4 seconds, and has a range of about 200 miles.
The base price is $98,000. Options include a $1,200 nav system, a $3,200 carbon-fiber hardtop painted to match the body color, and a $500 mobile charging system.
At this point, buyers can put down either $50,000, which gets them a car by July of 2008, or $30,000, which gets them a car whenever all the folks who put down $50,000 have their car. On the Tesla Web site, these two tiers of depositers are described as a “Premium Buyer” and a “Patient Buyer.”

Compliments of tigerhonaker:
stevencrosbie 08-16-2007, 07:32 PM Oh I love that car. Not only is it cool b/c it is all electric...its looks are by far stunning. Best of both worlds....
Thanks Tigerhonaker!
JBrian 08-17-2007, 04:42 AM Terry,
Congratulation on the new HAH and welcome to DA! We considered a HAH a couple of months ago. Their would be no payoff with my wife since she doesn’t drive enough and payoff would never come to me in my 80+ mile roundtrip commute. On the other hand, I really like what Honda did with the HAH. I’m sure if driven conservatively they will pull down FE numbers higher than my K24 5-speed. You also get one of the smoothest hybrid drive-trains on the market with an additional 100Ftlbs of torque available when ever you want it.
I don’t know why some people attack HAH owners. People purchase cars based upon what their wants and needs. If we all purchased based only upon our needs we wouldn’t have near the selection of automobiles available to us! Based upon my research a couple of months ago, I could have moved into a HAH for about $26,750 (Without navigation). That’s a similar price that you would pay for an Acura TSX. You would also get a $1700 rebate from the feds for purchasing a HAH, so the deal in real numbers brought the price down to $25,050 before TT&L! That’s a heck of a car for that kind of change; probably a 14.7 something in the ¼ under ideal conditions and commute mileage in the 33-38Mpg range!
Track you mileage and let us know how it’s doing.
James.uk 08-17-2007, 05:50 AM >>>and has a range of about 200 miles.<<<
Doesn't sound very much, but -- England is soo small that 200 miles covers half the country! :D I'm roughtly central, from here it's 200 miles to the South coast.. 180 ish miles North to Scotland. 95 miles East to the North sea, 40 miles west to the Irish sea.. (distances are approx) Tiny innit!!! :lmao::biggrin:
The South coast is approx 350 miles wide, it is the widest part of the UK. Due to its odd shape, it is not possible to be more than 72 miles from the nearest sea anywhere in the UK.

Hi Brian,
Here is a picture of my Honda Accord Hybrid taken this morning after I got to the Acura Dealership I work for.
This is driving from speeds like, 30-55 MPH and in between. Stops, hills, etc. This is a city trip to work done at 6:00 AM in the morning before traffic gets really crazy.

The car itself is just Great, I really like it and love the color combination. If I had the decision to make again I would go the same route.
As far as why members "Attack" the Hybrid Buyer. It might be that members do not want the Hybrid owner to preach to them on FE (Fuel Economy). Personally, I have No-Intention of preaching anything to other members. Their choice is their's to make as mine is to me. As far as the Honda Accord Hybrid goes if anyone would check they would find out what I already know, and that is the HAH is Faster than the E-XL V-6 Accord. So looking down on the HAH is completely out of line IMO. I really bought the HAH because it has the most advanced technology that Honda is offering for 2007. But again I say buy and drive what you like and let us discuss Honda Accords on DA Forum. Peace

Hi James,
England may be small in size but as I remember Mr. Church Hill in WW2 had England Looking and Acting like a True (Giant) to Hitler.
The Tesla is I think for the Very Rich. It is a very beautiful car but not for the even high middle class family in the USA. Cannot speak for England because I do not know the income levels there for a working class family.
However the Tesla is exciting and has a range of 200 miles. Which is further than anything that I am aware of that is for sale to the public sector at this time. Not to forget it is a very fast and great handling sports car that has Zero-Emissions. If I only had a lot more years left I might just try to get my hands on one of them. But I am older now and could not ever recover from such a huge purchase at this time in my life. What a car though.

The UK Gov figures for suposed ave working mens incomes are about 20k pa... but... If you take out the top 5%, people like millionaires, Richard Branson, top footballers on silly money, our so-called "landed Gentry" (who stole all the land from the English peasant farmers) etc etc then that figure drops by about 50% !!
The fact is the ave worker in the UK is very poorly paid compared with a similar man in a similar job working in the US.. That's the reality..

Hey as a C240 Driver I need to correct ya by saying Honda did the copying! That design was used from 01-Present!
The similarities are quite pronounced though. The 03 Coupe and the 03 CLK look VERY similar as well from the rear.
I'm sure Tigerhonaker can testify to my saying that the C240 has an unmatched feeling of solidity compared to the Honda.
tigerhonaker 08-18-2007, 07:29 PM Accordlover,
I know this is going to make your :jawdrop: but here is what my wife said the 1st night we picked up the Accord Hybrid and was on the way home on the Interstate. She said this car has more Luxury and a Quieter ride than my Mercedes. So there you have it from the Mercedes Owners Mouth. What can I say at this point. :dunno:
Terry
BTW, She also said this when I felt the need to Floor-It to get pass some other vehicles merging into our lane which was very quickly merging into another interstate. So it just literally jumped-Up and took off. She said this is a real Hybrid that will get you out of Harms-Way if needed.

I suppose I never took into account that your HAH has active noise cancellation, a better V6 (far better!), what I consider to be better leather, a standard CD player (still can't get over the fact that the CD changer was an option on a Mercedes) and a sound system with more than 3 speakers (yes, 3, one is a dummy speaker!).
My comment was based moreso on the fact that I've never felt safer in a car than my Mercedes. I plan to be loyal to that brand far into the future; as long as the american influences stay to a minimum. My C240 has a sense of Solidity that I really feel cannot be matched by the Accord, or even a comparably priced Acura/Lexus. The steering is heavy at low speeds, but it feels 'just right' when the wheels are moving anywhere past 20mph.
If you can't tell, I love my C240. - It's not perfect at anything, but it's got all the right equipment to get the job done and then some. The V6 is unimpressive on paper, but it's quite the refined motor, and I haven't driven a car with a better AT and roadfeel. I like the 'connectedness' I guess.
To top all that off, no serious problems since one issue at 39k - 56k today.
tigerhonaker 08-18-2007, 08:55 PM Accordlover,

Ours now has like 20K miles on it. It is actually a C240 4-Matic. All wheel drive Mercedes.
I was a friend of the owner of the Mercedes Dealer here before he sold it to the Sonic Group. When he still owned it I had purchased many Mercedes from him over the yrs. Some of them were Fast. They had the AMG V-8's in them and they were fun cars to drive. They looked good also because they had all the ground effects, wheels, etc. on them. The last Mercedes we bought from him is the current car and that was just like a few months before he sold to Sonic Group. I miss him and doing business at the dealership. He made me some great deals so I traded often with him.

My wife works for Cigna Ins. and now works here at home. So no-miles get put on it. It basically just sits there in the garage.

RTexasF 08-19-2007, 04:41 AM I was kidding about MB copying the Honda look. With THAT kind of a water bill my yard would get very crispy!

Hey Texas I'm not that sensitive about who copied what. To me all the new cars now to some degree look like each other.
I believe though that you are sharing that comment with our other Mercedes 240 Owner that Post here on DA. :dunno:
Hey 1-month of constant everyday watering to try to keep a 1-acre lawn somewhat green and then get the Bill for $400.00 Plus Dollars. I'm out: :thumbsdow
Not to mention that the city/county is telling people not to water their lawns.

new grille

I think it makes the car much more youthful looking.
funny thing is I didn't even know I had the new grille until weeks after I picked my car up from the bodyshop that repaired it after a major accident. :lmao: Someone on www.benzworld.org pointed it out to me actually!

Hey that looks really good. If I had not just bought the 07 Accord Hybrid I might have looked into it. But as it stands the Wife will have to drive the 03 240 Mercedes the way it is. Sad but true. My saving Grace is she is really not into cars.
I like the look thou and if it was mine it would have that Grille. :naughty:

You do and there is a reason for me in this case leaving it on there. The guy that owned the local Mercedes Dealership is a friend of mine and made me some real deals on all kinds of Mercedes over the years until he sold the dealership to the Sonic Group. One of the AMG Mercedes I had was the C43 that had the V-8 AMG Engine in it and was a C-Class Mercedes. It was a smaller vehicle and had this great sounding V-8 in it. It was White with Black Interior. So anyway I took care of him and he always did right by me. I do miss him being at the dealership with a smile on his face.
Some Specs of the C-43:
CAR MODEL Mercedes-Benz C43 AMG 1998
ENGINE Mercedes SL500 Gearbox
TRANSMISSION SL500
SUSPENSION Sport
WHEELS 17 inch AMG Alloys
TYRES Michelin Z rating
BRAKES Brakes from S-Class, Disc
EXTERIOR Designo Green Colour, not much modification from the normal C-Class Merc
INTERIOR The interior of the C43 is impressive because of its functionality, but it is also a feast for the eyes. The sports seats of the C43 AMG are new from Daimler-Benz and they offer the driver and front seat passenger good lateral support and exemplary comfort. The multi-contour design tales care of all that: at the flick of a switch, air cushions can be inflated; they can make individual adjustments to the depth of the seat cushion, the contour of the lateral supports and the lordotic support.
ICE (audio) TRACKER and IMOBALISER
PERFORMANCE 0-60 5.8 1/4 Mile 14.8
Top speed 155 Power (BHP) 306
http://www.cleanmpg.com/photos/data/500/Mercedes_C-43.jpg
So anyway that is why I have chosen to leave the Mercedes Front License Plate on the car: Kinda Happy thoughts of days gone by.
Terry
Accordlover 08-19-2007, 09:40 AM I have mine just because I want to sell it like we got it. :-)
I also have the window Sticker, and all these papers on Hondas Airbag System, and a Massive Binder of Dealer service papers and annual Vehical performance evaluations by a tech at a Honda dealer.
I like the AMG Benzes, but I never liked that body style.
I'd love an E55 AMG. In Black.

Congrats on the recent purchase.
Say had you driven one before this purchase??? :dunno: Just wondered I had driven them on test drives many times and then when I found out that 2007 was the very last year for them I finally decided to make the move. It is a Great-Car.

stevencrosbie 08-24-2007, 08:39 PM That is a very nice mower you have there! When I was mowing my parents' 2.5 acres of grass, I convinced them to purchase a Grasshoppwer 721 Watercooled. It was a dream to mow with.
I can tell you like fine things. The mower, blower, and trimmer are all very quality products that will last a homeowner for several lifetimes.
I envy the day I can have the excuse to start my own collection of toys!

Oh BTW, the Accord Hybrid is a very cool ride IMO. It is Fast & if you take your foot off the Go-Pedal it gets really good FE (fuel economy). I like the interior colors and the very close fit and finish that Honda does. I'm sure the 2008 will be just as fine a machine and I just received an E-Mail from Honda and it said the 08 will have 268 HP. So it will be a very quick machine but I still think I made the right move with the 07 Hybrid. It is plenty fast for me (did i say that). :naughty:

Sorry to hear that! The C240 has been pretty reliable. It's got 64k, and did need a new engine at about 50k, but that was due to an oil leak and I'd say it was safe to call it a freak incident. Thank goodness for warranties. The new motor feels awesome.
Any issues other that were electrical, door lock, keyless entry and ignition. All warrantee fixes. For a benz, I'm somewhat impressed. I mean I didn't expect much at all from it.

I had (No-Problems) at all with the Mercedes AWD 240. I traded it in because it was out of the Factory Warranty in like 3 Months. Also it had No-Power from a Standing Stop. Also I wanted the Wife to have a nice Fast Car and the New Accord was it. When I purchased the Mercedes I knew the Owner. He then later sold the Dealership to the (Sonic Group). So I did not want to have the Mercedes out of Factory Warranty and not have anyone at the Dealer that I knew would take care of me.
So, away went the Mercedes. It looked New when I traded it. All my cars are like new.
I wanted to get back into a Manual Fast Fun Car to drive and when the Bullitt Mustang was announced I ordered one. It took like 10 weeks to get it once the order was placed. It was worth the wait IMO.
Regards,
Terry
BTW, I'm not running down the Mercedes but it is not as reliable as the Honda Accord IMO.
