Looks much nicer than I thought. Initial impressions of the LCD screen up top didn't look good.
It still has the separate LCD display just under the screen.
The speedo/tach arrangement isn't quite like the CR-V - the fuel and temp gauges are not electronic but rather analog and off to the side.
The CD changer looks a bit like an after thought.
Overall, I like it . . . a lot.

Don't get me wrong, I like it - just not as much as my 7gen

im not feeling the whole separate section thing on the passenger side. but the center stack certainly looks nice and upscale. i wonder what the non-navi dash looks like?
In a lot of ways, I like my 7gen better, too. I guess I'm just relieved that it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. :paranoid: Still not crazy about that upright expanse of dash in front of the passenger. The overall design doesn't seem to be as integrated / cohesive as the 7gen interior. Lots of buttons and angles everywhere in the 8gen. The more I look at the CD changer, the more it stands out like a sore thumb to me.
But, I'll reserve final judgement until I see it in person. Like my 7gen, I'm sure the 8gen will win me over on its total package.

I think it looks awesome. I love the center and the gauge cluster. Too bad I am keeping this accord for 165K miles more.

Nice find Trip!!
Looks like the 03+ combo key/remote is staying. No flippy TL-version stock, guys. But that's okay. Mine has held up exceptionally well and the TL key mod will probably still apply.:yes::yes:
It seems like it'll be reasonably intuitive...the BMW guys bitch about iDrive mostly because it's difficult to change the radio stations and climate control using the console thingy. At least here, as is typical with Hondas, the joystick should only control navi functions.

Yuck... not liking it very much. There are a lot of similarities to the current dash (same gauge look with the LED lighting, some buttons look carried over, display numbers are familiar, and the overall placement of everything seems somewhat similar.
But if this is the final dash, it has some real disappointments from mine:
* while placement of items is mostly the same, it smacks of a half-hearted ripoff of a BMW dash. The current design was and still is in a league by itself.
* the navigation/display screen housing is asymmetrical and looks stupid. I have never liked the German "box on a dash" display center design no matter who uses it. Honda just cribbed it.
* the glovebox still has that big gap on the side (and probably top :thumbsdow). Note to Honda: let's measure glovebox gaps by microns, not inches!
* it looks like there are three distinct colors/textures/shades going on from the dash bottom to the middle section, to the top part. Sensory overload.
* there are still way too many seams/part-lines and overall pieces to the dash. I thought they would fix that. If there was one design complaint about the current dash, it is that it has too many separate pieces making it up. The domestics are doing better at this now.
* Lastly, the button area is not nearly as artfully done. The buttons seem to be less integrated/flush/aesthetically pleasing. The current setup is perfection.
I'm sure it will drive great, and still have all the qualities people expect, but I really think the Gen7 was the pinnacle in Accord interior design. I guess it can only really go down from there.
As much as I have come to appreciate my Accord, it's replacement will be RWD (no snow in Florida!) and from either Lexus or more likely Infiniti. My daughter (when she finally drives) will love having the Accord and I will feel good having her drive it.
So, whether or not I like this Gen8 design really menas very little for us. But, it will be interesting what people who trade a Gen7 for a Gen8 think of the new version.
Time will tell.:)

I like my 7th generation dash alot better. Much more thought out and integrated. The 8th generation looks overdone.....too many items crammed in one area and way too many small rectangular buttons.

One thing I noticed...........looks as if you toggle the temperature up and down now....instead of the rotating knob. I believe I like the 7th gen better on that as well.

I too like the 7th gen dash. I'm not crazy about the gray? buttons mixed in with the others. The light gray buttons on either side have a really cheap look to them. I do like the rest of the dash and what they did with the navi. I like the 8th gen, but it doesn't make me want to replace my 7th gen. (I'm kinda glad;just bought mine a year ago:D)
I'm also partial to the turn knobs for the climate control.
I wonder if Honda will do the keyless thing. My best friend has a new Sentra and she never has to pull her key out of her purse. As long as she's close to the car she can press the little button on the front door handles to lock and unlock and the same with the trunk. The car doesn't use a key to start and it will only work if the key is inside the car. The keyless thing never really excited me until I saw how easy it was. Especially with hauling my kids all over New Jersey.
However, one reason I'm glad Honda still uses the key is that I don't want my children to be able to start the car. So I guess the key still has it good points.
However, I'm a gadget geek and I find stuff like that really interesting.

Comparing 7th gen with nav to 8th gen with nav. I like the looks of the 7th gen better if were just sitting here looking at pictures. For actually using the nav. system I like the placement higher like they have in the 8th gen.
Thanks for finding this one Trip I'm looking forward to seeing more or actually seeing it in person. I wonder what the dash looks like w/out nav?? I wish I could see more of that steering wheel from the little bit I can see it looks strange.

Yuck. Not liking it either. The top half of the dash doesn't flow as nicely as the 7th Gens.
There are just too many buttons crammed too close together.
And what's with that extra tier on the passenger side?
I'm not feeling the steering wheel either.
About the only thing I like so far is the tachometer/speedometer area and how the lower part of the dash (where the silver trim is) flows and curves into the center area like on the 7th Gen's.

I like the higher Nav screen location , but that new center cluster looks very busy to me. It doesn't look like you could operate anything by feel anymore (as with previous Honda designs) because there are so many closely-spaced buttons and knobs. I'll gladly keep my 7th gen interior, especially the elegant look of the white gauge needles.
BTW, does anyone know if they've relocated the microphone for voice commands? I always thought it would work better if it were closer to the driver, like in the A-pillar or even the steering column... :dunno:

Looks like that particular Accord has auto headlights!! I'm glad they're finally moving toward there...only 15 years behind. My '96 Explorer had Autolamp!!

what makes you say Type S specifically??? The last i checked, my non-Type S is also a touchscreen!!!

understandably, our Navi's spoil us with the touchscreen!!! hahaha...

Pretty much my feelings too:
-Not too into the Nissan-esque steering wheel, with one reason being that it is now unoriginal. I'll even go one step further and say this one is uglier. :(
-The dash is WAY too busy and the controls are a mess IMO.
-I have the same gauge cluster...in my 1994 Accord.
Overall I am totally unimpressed, but as always, I'll save final judgment for when I see it in person.
And on a side note, WOW is the sedan's rear looking ugly in these pics! :paranoid:

On the bright side, this may save me some decent $ in the long run: with the more pics I see, the more I have a feeling that I will be purchasing a new (or used) '07, a used '06 or some other brand altogether instead of an '08...

he's trying to say that you can swap out the cup holders for the covered cup holders for $220 to hold your $1 medium sized soda from McDonalds. ;)
The interior of the models with navi need to have smaller buttons to fit everything in the dash. I'm waiting to see the pics of the 08 without the nav. I'm sure the models without the navi would have rotary knobs for the temp control. Just gotta wait and see.

Sign me up... how the heck do I get more info..
Can I get my grubby hands on the "not an ashtray" cover as well?
EDIT: The more I look at the interior pictures the LESS I like it.. the button busyness I may be able to get used to but what I don't think I can get over is the passenger dash peice that is at the same level as the Nav.. it seems to jut out and just looks odd, too many different pieces..
The entire side of the passenger dash seems to be at a very strange inclined angle as well.. looks fugly in pics.. maybe diff in person... (Crosses fingers)

I absolutely agree with both of the above. I wish I could see the gauges better, but from what I can tell they look nice with the silver ring around them. Very classy interior.

The current dash just looks a lot more intuitive in terms of controls. The interior is one of the main draws to the 7th gen. It's sleak, functional, and integrates pretty much all of the features without seeming like some were added at the last minute. WAY too many buttons on the new dash. I think this will make things harder to use than on the current dash where the buttons are clustered around the nav screen/radio rather than being haphazardly clumped below it. I'm sure it will be better in person, but I think it's safe to say that the new accord will not be nearly as intuitive.
Aside from that, the dash isn't "in your face" enough for me personally. Maybe the coupe will be different, but it seems that in my 06 coupe the dash is a little closer to me up top and kind of adds to the secure feeling of the ****pit more than it will in the 8th gen, though I could be wrong.
I like the steering wheels though, at first glance it kind of looks like a 3 spoke wheel, but it has 4 spokes. Much more sporty than the current accord imo.
Anyone else hear a few rattles when they saw those interior shots?
The more I look at it, the more I'm liking the lay out. I'll have to wait to see it in person to see the quality of the materials and how it works in real life but the ergonomics look to be well thought out.
The dual front zone HVAC controls are to the far left and right where the drive and passenger can reach them. And the lighter color helps to set them apart.
The audio controls are top and center.
The NAVI controls are well place, too. The large input knob looks to be easily accessible and the four large buttons around it - Cancel, Map Guide, Menu - are the 4 buttons I use the most on my current Honda NAVI *while driving*. It makes sense they're large (easy to see and to get your finger on while driving) and around the input knob - the knob is the next thing you would use after tapping one of the four buttons.
**Side note - I use voice controls quite a but, too, which work well but the dash buttons help when you can't remember the 1 out of 700 voice commands you need.
I like the LCD screen higher and closer to site line - just don't particularly like how its integrated. It will be functional but doesn't look very sleek.
I like that Honda kept the secondary display. That comes in handy for seeing music and HVAC info without having to pull it up in the NAVI screen. Its new position doesn't look like it will be very intuitive to look at but at least it looks to be bright and should be legible. I hope music titles will scroll. It just looked like an oversight that they were truncated.

Too many $@!# buttons. I also don't like the muliple pieces of the dash. Too many lines and pieces.
I would like to see how the dash looks without the Nav system.
I also hate the steering wheel styling. It looks stupid to me compared to the 7th Generation Accord and 8th Generation Civic.
I'll reserve final judgment until I see this in person, but right now I don't like it compared to the 7th Generation interior. This is really too bad, because I like the 8th Generation exterior a lot.

The problem is if you have the shade open on the moon roof on the 7th gen NAVI you cannot see the screen. It makes sense that it is deeper and shaded in the dash. I just wonder how much easier it will be to use the keyboard to type into the system. Of course maybe they also think that people should use the voice comands more then typing. We shall see once we get our hands on one.

Funny thing you mention this as Acura moved away from the touch screens and said customers can get "used" to using voice commands.....I never use them though.....
As for the sunroof, you hit that one right on the head. When mine is open there is no hope of reading the screen.
