or do all of the new reviews read almost exactly like the ones when the 7th (and perhaps the 6th to a lesser extent) generation came out? They all have a similar narrative:

1. This time the Accord is upscale!
2. This time the Accord gets some personality!
3. This time the Accord coupe is differentiated from the sedan!
4. This time the V-6 has serious power!

and so on. It seems like the same thing happens when a new Camry appears as well.

I guess critics and journalists can be lazy, as you see the same sort of thing in music reviews (e.g., every new Rolling Stones album is the best one since Tattoo You and every new Bowie album is the best since Scary Monsters).

If nothing else, this tells me that the supposed "blandness" of Accords (and, I suppose, the Camry) has at least as much to do with their ubiquity than with any inherent qualities.

well they are incremental evolutions of a previous design (which were very good at their intended purposes) so there really isnt much to say except it got incrementally better than the previous gen (more upscale, more power, more _____ ).

these are bread and butter sedans for honda and toyota with tried and true formulas that have worked extremely well for them in the past, so nothing is going to be monumental from one gen to the next. its not like all of a sudden the accord is going to turn into an all out sport sedan.

This is the reason why Honda has such good resale value. Each iteration is a lot better than the previous...but there's nothing ground breaking.

It is like a broken record. They always act like the previous version was a piece of crap and had none of the new model's virtues.

I do find it interesting how Honda describes how they made the front of the 2008 to be more upscale, and get rid of the gen7's "grown-up, economy car front end". Wha??!! :dunno:

Geez, talk about zinging your past customers.

I remember a time when the Honda company I grew up with extolled the virtues of their lower front hoods. Sportier, easier to see the road in front, and styling unique among other sedans. Not any more... Honda is proud of the new tall and square front end. I much prefer the pointy front on my 2003... very sporty and looks like nothing else (except maybe an s2000- a good thing).

Lastly, I really do believe that growing the car to almost Avalon size and styling it like the Camry (more upright, less tightly drawn, especially the profile and bland rear views) will have everyone calling the gen8 Accord vanilla and bland in no time. And as far as I'm concerned, I have never wanted to sit even further away from my wife in the passenger seat and no one has complained about the back seat being too small.

The "bigger is better" mantra now hailed by Honda is not gonna help maneuverability, handling, and the fun-to drive aspect the current model now enjoys... mine drives and feels like a smaller car than it is. That's what I appreciate in a car... and I'm 40!

Can't wait to drive home my old, utilitarian, dull, wheezing Accord EX-L V6 tonight.

They HAD to change and be more like the Camry, I guess they wannted to have a "sporty Camry".... FWIW, I HATE the new Camry look, but it is WAY BETTER than the old Camry.........

Did you know the average of Camry buyers is 55??

No, actually they didn't.

With that kind of thinking, I guess BMW should just emulate Lexus, since they are the big luxury seller. Heck, Infiniti abandoned their whole mission in the late 90s by trying to become a Lexus wannabe. Failed miserably. Now, back to their roots, Infiniti is once again bucking the Lexus trend and building cars for driving... not just being driven. They are being rewarded with loyal enthusiasts again buying Infinitis. (Look at the Nissan Maxima on the other hand... it has gone from 4DSC to huge "sporty-ish" sedan... and sales have fallen to less than half of it's hey-day. Quite sad for those of us who were loyal to the Maxima's credibility as a Japanese V6 sport sedan).

It is quite obvious Honda is straying from their original goal of building the best damn fun to drive (ie... more BMW-sized than Toyota-sized) cars for those not willing to spend BMW-style bucks.

What is even sadder: Toyota's success in selling appliance vehicles by the zillions is having a chilling effect on those makers who have catered to a more sophisticated crowd that appreciates a tight driving experience (think Honda, Nissan, Mazda).

Another Toyota victory.:thumbsdow

I think everyone is missing a major possibility.

The creation of large sedans for the masses is obviously an attempt to make the family sedan what it was before the SUV came around. Thus saving on fuel, dependency on foreign oil none the less! If a family of 4 or 5 could fit into a Sedan just as comfortably as they do in their SUV that costs a lot more to buy and run I would not be surprised to see more people buy sedans again. It's not like the Accord has become a Towncar or anything.

Oh and when did you drive the new Accord? Because you seem to know how it handles like a boat or something.:scratch:

Honda has always been able to make its cars fun to drive no matter what the size. The Pilot drives like a tall Accord as does the Odyssey. Both are cars you could easily mistake for a much smaller vehicle in terms of maneuverability and drive ability very easily. The first odyssey was especially good at this. It just felt like a big Accord wagon. The 98' VTEC power plants gave them decent power as well; too bad they didn't have that engine in there before.

I'll pay attention to your negative comments toward Honda once you've actually driven the car you've already begun to show hate for. (unless I missed somewhere that you did drive one.)

Back at it, I see.

Goddam, you gotta tone down those snotty, condescending personal attacks at me, on a post that in no way made one reference to one thing you said. I'm sure my two previous posts went right over your head, considering you are a 16 year old boy who tries mightily to stand up to the real adults on here. Just go back to posting about how rich you think you are , or how your next car is gonna be this or that , or how you've got personal experience about every topic ever mentioned on here... all at the ripe age of sixteen. Anyone with as many posts as you have in the short amount of time since becoming a member, needs something more constructive to do with his/her life. Soooo much wasted time.

On your point about how fun to drive and how much like an Accord a Pilot or Odyssey is,that in itself shows a real lack of knowledge or experience. If you believe a 4000+ lb, 200+ inch long vehicle drives like an Accord, you are not credible at all.

I don't hate the 2008 Accord (you love to use these very strong words to catagorize my statements so it makes 'em seem oh so extreme) , just dismayed at the direction it keeps moving toward and Honda's newfound stated goal of being the biggest in an already too-big segment.

And with your logic about my "negative" comments, I expect you to never ever comment about something you have personally never experienced (and remove all previous posts where you have already done so...your post count would drop by 2/3rds). Using other "friends" or "family members" supposed experiences vicariously like you typically do, doesn't count as personal experience.:)

Attention everyone! "Tyler" says you must refrain from any negative comments about Honda (and the Accord specifically) until you have ample seat time or full ownership of said 2008. Do what he says or he's gonna let you have it with his teenage authority!

BTW, I stand by my original posts in this thread.

I'm sure my two previous posts went right over your head, considering you are a 16 year old boy who tries mightily to stand up to the real adults on here.

Once again, the age thing... You're just never going to get over the fact that I'm a young individual. Just so you're more up to date on your future posts about me being a 'boy' I'm 17 now.:lmao:

Just go back to posting about how rich you think you are , or how your next car is gonna be this or that , or how you've got personal experience about every topic ever mentioned on here...

Don't know when I said I was rich.

I know I've said what I want as my next car. - Who doesn't?

Every topic eh? - Okay then...

all at the ripe age of sixteen.

There you go again...

Anyone with as many posts as you have in the short amount of time since becoming a member, needs something more constructive to do with his/her life. Soooo much wasted time.

What can I say. I'm a multi-tasker. Usually when I'm posting on here I'm designing websites or managing my online sales, or researching various things.

On your point about how fun to drive and how much like an Accord a Pilot or Odyssey is,that in itself shows a real lack of knowledge or experience. If you believe a 4000+ lb, 200+ inch long vehicle drives like an Accord, you are not credible at all.

This I will correct my wording on. The Pilot and Odyssey feel a lot like a big Accord. - No they aren't the same.

Have you driven a Pilot or an Odyssey?:dunno:

I don't hate the 2008 Accord (you love to use these very strong words to catagorize my statements so it makes 'em seem oh so extreme) , just dismayed at the direction it keeps moving toward and Honda's newfound stated goal of being the biggest in an already too-big segment.

My apologies.

There you go again with the age thing; three times, a record. You know... there are more people than just me who are in their mid to upper teens on this forum. Sorry if we can't all be 40 like you.:lmao: Seeing as that seems to be the only way you'd ever not attack someone's age.

Ahhh... he's tweaked you too, huh? Interesting. I'll add you to the list.

And of course the same mod comes in to reprimand me, but caress poor "Tyler's" feelings.

If my 16 year old son or 14 year old daughter ever acted like some of the crap I've read from this person, my wife and I would be ashamed that we had failed to raise a decent kid.

And to the mod: This kid has baited me on numerous occasions since he joined and I have warned him to ignore my posts (just as I stay away from his drivel) or I will punch back. And if you fall for his innocence bit, you're just enabling him/her.

Also, PMs or IMs from an adult in his 20s on up to any minor is inappropriate. I notice quite alot of that going on here, and it makes me wonder.

BTW... I'm not the only that feels this way.

accord,

as you can see (or maybe not), i reprimanded him, not you. i really thought that no further action was needed here.

tyler has baited people before, but he's not the only guilty party here. others have done the same thing, but you're not bringing up their names.... what gives? kind of hypocritical, don't you think? trust me, i know that he's not innocent here. we all have our faults, myself included.

and, who are you to judge who PMs / IMs whom anyways??? first of all, you hve no idea what those messages contain, regardless of who the sender or receiver is. what does it matter??? sometimes, the content is forum-related, and i do what i can as a still-inexperienced moderator. otherwise, i fwd it to the other mods for further action. other times, it's on a more of a personal matter.

regardless tho, PMs are just that.... they are meant for more private conversations. and you can throw in IMs as well. for the record, tyler isn't the only person that i talk to outside of the forum.

if you, or anyone else, have any other questions, feel free to PM me. thank you.

Obviously you don't stay away from his drivel or I wouldn't have been reading your potty mouth talk that would embarrass me as a parent if my child (no matter how old they are) was saying that stuff. In case you think "tougher skin" needs to be applied here (but maybe you don't), try thinking along the lines of common (now there's a misnomer) decency/courtesy.
