I'm just very curious on why is it that Toyota Camry '08 comes with sport shifts, but not the Honda Accord '08? Many of you may find it silly to ask this question, but if they can have it for the RL, TL, TSX. Why can't Honda make sport shifts on their new models? :lmao:
Is it because Accord is just never good enough to have a gear box like the TL or the TSX?
Just curious

honda fit sport package has paddle shifters

that's on the Fit not the Accord tho~
indeed... that's the point I don't get, if fit can have it why can't Accord have it?

I'm thinking Honda doesn't want their Accord sales to start affecting their Acura sales. Some things Honda just reserves for Acuras, like sport shift, HID lighting and memory seats. In the case of the Fit, Honda likely threw in the paddle shifters as a gimmick to get people interested in those cars. I know this sucks, but the Acura line-up is always going to have a few more options compared to the Accord.

It might have something to do with the cylinder cutoff they added in 2008. I don't know if any other manufacturer offers both in tandem, but Honda probably couldn't engineer it in.:dunno:

I mean, look at the fact that Honda still can't figure out how to heat the entire passenger seat with an occupant sensor present. There are numerous cars/trucks that offer both.

As far as memory seats... that seems to be a feature rarely offered in this class. We have them in our Pathy and love them to death. Wish they were on our EXLV6.

HIDs and keyless start (a feature my parents-in law have in a 2006 Avalon... I could really fall in love with that feature, not to mention my wife) not being offered in the Accord is Honda being Honda. Rarely do they offer up-and-coming features until they basically become offered by everyone else first.

Surprisingly, I don't see any new splashy features on the new Accord at all. It looks mostly like a carbon copy of the 2007 feature list. I would expect a company that caters to a younger, tech savy, and forward-looking customer base to lead in this area (kinda like they do in engine technology).

The domestics have been slow to pick up new technologies (nav systems come to mind) and have paid a price with the perception that they don't know what the consumer wants... even before they want it.

Honda can't keep doin' this forever.

Obviously that's not the case because the TL and TSX share 6spd transmission options.

It's probably because the average 50+ Accord buyer doesn't want anything to do with shifting, period. If they did, they would've bought a Manual transmission.

Plus, there has to be things to keep people buying the RL. The Accord really cuts it close on paper (however in person is another story).

Paddle shifters.... silly.

Are you seriously trying to compare an RL with an Accord here?:lmao:

Man, why not? I am not sure why anyone buys lux cars anymore. Very little advantage in my opinion; the accord is now bigger than the RL, so what the dif? A few things I dont care much about.

The RL does look bad ass though.

 Yea, why not...Who cares about the fact that the engine and transmission are completely different for starters...

Paddle shifters do work with cylinder deactivation. I have it. I believe Honda don't bother because they have a 6speed.

Honda does this no feature bullshit with there ATV's also. It seems if it isn't broke why fix it.

People who are buying an RL aren't even looking at an Accord regardless of even adding $10000 in features. Their ass wouldn't even drive into a Honda dealerships parking lot.

You are probably right. Just not sure it means enough to me when it comes to buying a sedan... But I am the cheap guy driving the VP around. So I am probably not the target market and out of my expertise here.

I remember growing up and my dad having a Cadillac, and that meant something different than a Chevy, and an Olds, and a Buick. That car had so many things that others didn't. Its just tough with all the standard equipment on base cars now for me to believe that it means much to have the premium brands now. I think they have some great style, but that only gets me so far.

In response to the original question, I'd guess they're saving some new features for the MMC.

As for this thread, am I the only one who thinks the language is becoming a little too ... um ... colorful?

Status is what a lot of it is about. I love my gadgets in cars and won't buy a car unless it's fully loaded. That's just me. If I like a certain example I like to have the top of the line.

I hear where you're coming from, as I do feel the language has gotten a tad out of hand around here more than usual. But, I've just set the group of people who do use unnecessary language to ignore on my account.

You see that they've made a post, but not what it contains.

Which bummed me out, because I was really hoping that it would be a "they vanish" kinda deal. But, it's better than nothing, and I won't get so fired up over those who constantly drive me up a wall. So it's healthier for everyone!:thmsup:

Thats a good point. I was thinking about it strictly on paper what you get for your $, and status is hard to figure into it. I love the gadgets too, I just have a hard time paying for them up front. If I buy a used car, I try to buy a loaded one.

You probably use what you buy, but it is fun to get into someones top of the line car and find out they dont know about half the features it has.

Regardless though, it all keeps the economy rolling.

Anyway, werent we talking about paddle shifters?...

Come on, were all grown-ups here. We can handle a little colorful language. Its not like people are running around saying you're a (expletive) and I think you should (expletive) (further expletive). Thats one thing I like about this forum, a lot of the people here are well above being a minor and act like it. Go to a different forum and you'll see spoiled little kids whose parents bought them a fancy car that think they know everything in the world and try to prove it by ramming extremely colorful language down your throat.

Yeah, I know and I agree . That's exactly why I was a bit concerned. The reason I signed up with DA is that this place seemed a little more family-oriented and grown-up than other forums I had visited. I'm just hoping that doesn't change too much. Anyway, don't mind me. I was just pointing out something I thought was worth pointing out.

And for the record, my original post on this thread was on-topic ... Well, kinda. :D

The mods do a good job here too. On other forums, like v6p and g7a, the mods don't really moderate often enough, but frequently use their mod priveleges to win disagreements and remove the posts of people they don't agree with. I am probably not the easiest person to moderate, but I have yet to feel that a moderator has used their moderator functions unjustly, even the more fiery ones (like benjiboy, where'd he go anyway?). Of course it does help that the forum members tend to be much more grown up here, as you stated. I feel that I can speak how I want w/o oversensoring myself here as long as I don't get too forceful w/ my language (though I do tend to get a little passive aggressive sometimes, sorry).

Paddle shifters do work with cylinder deactivation. I have it.

Why can't I think of a car that has cylinder deactivation and paddle shifers? What car is this? I am sure it will be a major "D'OH" moment once you tell us. I am really thinking getting both to work together efficiently and effectively is the major reason that Honda left any type of "Sport" shifting out of the new Accords with Automatics.
