I'm trying to install a new radio after my gf's cd player was stolen. However, whoever installed the previous one cut the factory harness and spliced directly to the wires, with scotch tape no less. I've been trying to identify the wires to connect the new cd player, but there are a few I'm not sure about. I've identified all the speaker wires, the 12 volt battery wire, and the ground wire. However, I'm not sure about the power antenna trigger or the 12 volt ignition wire. Also, I have 3 wires left!
I still have a yellow w/white wire, a red w/black wire, and a white w/red wire. I've scoured the web, and I think the yellow w/white one is the power antenna trigger, the red w/black is illumination (?, is this the dash dimmer wire?), but can't find the white w/red one. By process of elimination, it should be the 12 volt ignition wire, but I stuck a multimeter to that wire and turned the ignition, and it's reading 0. I tried the other three wires to see if they were the 12 volt ignition wire, but none of them are giving me any reading when I turn the ignition.
Am I doing something wrong? Maybe I have to start the car for the 12 volts to show up? I used a AAA battery to test all the speaker wires, and I get a reading off the 12 volt battery wire, so it has to be one of these wires. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
