How long do you guys think it will be  before we should start seeing 2008 Accords appear on the dealer lots?

:notworthy I know that there are the "official" promised and estimated arrival dates and then there are the unofficial early appearances (where new cars almost always start appearing on lots before the "official" arrival dates). Is it possible that we could start to see them appear as early as this week?

They go on sale Sept 12. Pricing is rumored to be announced Sept 11. So, next week.

Over the weekend, a dealer said he was expecting to have his by labor day. I didn't call the guy to see if it arrived though.

exterior I am not feeling so much, but its decent. I really like the interior. There is some good mix of M5 and S600 in there. Car will still sell like MAD.

Checked with my local dealer. They said the 2008 Accords will arrive at the dealership not one minute sooner than the morning of the 12th, which is when they will be available for sale.

he also mentioned he had a waiting list of 25 people who requested to be called the minute a 2008 showed up. Sounds like a frenzy. As if a car salesman didn't ever inflate numbers.... :lmao:

that's not realistic. they'll be most places at least a day before that. but hidden. if they are availible for driving and sale at time of opening on the 12th, they have to get the PDI and basic cleaning done before that. besides, how can Honda deliver cars to every single dealer in the US on the same morning, before sales opens, yet after the dealerships themselves have opened...... trust me, just like the carlines I deal with, the cars will be there, but they won't let you near them. probably be up on techs hoists right when they get there so they are out of reach from everyone.

I've seen a few new models from GM appear on local dealer lots over the years days or even a week or two before their official release. They always have a "PROPERTY OF GENERAL MOTORS" sticker on them where the window sticker would eventually be placed.

Santa does it. :paranoid:

Actually that reminds me of a commerical for the 1986 Accord that was voiced over by Burgess Meredith.

"Once upon a time, while everyone was sleeping, shiny new Accords were parked in their garages . . . "

General motors gives me the creeps in general. They actually give me nighmares sometimes:lmao: , but usually they're about the EV1 cars.:paranoid:

I saw a tester a few weeks ago in Broken Arrow, Ok. A white Coupe. Very nice looking car.

You can bet the first cars will show up on the left and right coast. Texas and other very large markets where the dealers wont have any problems selling at MSRP or above.

I'm very very interested in how fast the 08 V6 Coupe MTs sell. I think its the biggest bargain in Honda's carline . The performance will be killer with the 3.5 motor. If you can buy it for say halfway between msrp and invoice its a great deal compared to what Nissan and Toyota offers in the Altima coupe and Camry SE V6. Have you ever priced out a similar Nissan or Toyota? Its the package prices that shoot the price way too high.

Saw them today!!! I saw a car carrier today on the NJ Turnpike heading North around Exit 14 (Newark Airport). It had several Honda's on it. Noticed 2 '08 sedans, a black one and a white one and a blue coupe. I was travelling in the car lanes, not the truck lanes, so I was too far away to get a real good look at them...

i'm going to get an oil change on Tuesday...hopefully Royal or Superior will have a few in stock. I want to see Mystic Green so bad! I bet the first ones will be just black, silver, and white, though :(

I'm going to Royal as well. Their new cars are the most expensive I've seen so far. They don't like to move on price much. I guess when you have a repeat customer basis like that you don't need anymore?:dunno:

I'm still eerie of Royal's service department (suggested that a family member buy a new car instead of fixing her 'old' one because it had a 'broken' transmission; when it didn't), but I've got 2 connections at that dealer so far, so maybe it'll be better this time. They do seem to be friendlier than most though, and sometimes long term customer care rules over price.

I need to drive more! - My dealer in Texas was like "well we're seriously adjusting the date on your oil sticker this time around" so it says 1/08.:lmao: ; and I had it changed like a month ago. Still 1.5k away from needing it.

You're right about the prices. They really don't care if you buy a car from them or not. They do well because the upper-middle-class Metairie buyers don't want to drive to the Westbank or to the East to save money. Like i've said before, I bought 1 car from them but that was a fluke incident and it won't happen again.

I've gotten the best price from Premier Honda, in New Orleans East. The area is a historically lower socioeconomic class that was hit hard by the flooding and hasn't really bounced back yet, but they do have a huge inventory and -- if you're willing to drive about 20 mins out of your way -- could be worth it. When I trade in the 2005 in February I will see what they can do :)

After doing some initial talking with the three Honda dealers in the RTP area, it looks like I'll be driving back to PA for my next car. Even for new models (94, 98, 03) I've never had to pay more than a few bucks over invoice - a benefit of being a customer for nearly 20 years. I got a screaming deal on an 07 V6 6-speed a couple months back but that was to be expected with all the year end activity going on. If I do go with a TSX, they'll move just becaue its an existing model. For an 08 Accord, its road trip time. Tho, there are two more dealers somwheat close (about 90 minutes in opposite directions) I might try. Sometimes the smaller dealers away from metropolitan areas are willing to deal to get your business.

Running errands this morning and saw the empty car carriers leaving a local dealer....so I wandered into the lot. Lots of shinning new Accords of the 2008 variety.

They look nice....the fender flares both front and back are very nice. Aggressive look actually for what it is.

A burgundy type color with a tan interior was mighty darn good looking...they had 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder models. And wow, those chrome door handles on the 6's IMHO are hideous. Your opinons may be diffrent, YMMV and all other disclaimers apply!

Now if they just had a Ex-L diesel sedan w/ manual transmission.........soooooooooooooon............

I "happened" to be driving past my dealer this morning when they were unloading 4 off the transport truck!

1 EXL V6 w/ Nav...white diamond
1 LXP...polished metal
2 EXL I4...polished metal and bold beige.

the white diamond w/ Nav was BEAUTIFUL. I got to sit in it during the PDI to play with the nav, but they were quick to tell me it was going straight to the owner's wife. LOL. I'm not a fan of tan interiors, but this one looked great.

the dash on the non-navi EX-Ls looks really nice, too. I had my doubts about the radio/climate info screen but the colors are really vibrant.

But lord, it is BIG. The trunk is massive. And it will take some getting used to when parking. The back seat actually doesn't feel much bigger, but the front seat area is much roomier.

BTW all 4 were from japan, not marysville.

Quick question: Have they done away with the white plastic paint protector? These cars had some clear gooey stuff smeared across the front and around the door handles (you could see brush strokes).

I stopped by the dealer on my way home from work tonight, and sure enought they had about a dozen of the new Accords sitting on the front of their lot. Funny thing was, there were just as many salesmen waiting to pounce on anyone who decided to stop and take a look. I wasn't in the mood to deal with any of them, so I just kept on driving through the lot. From what I saw, I'm still very happy with my 7th gen. Luckily for me, there were a couple 8 gens. sitting on a back lot with no one there to bother me so I hopped and took a look.

The interior looked pretty nice with a lot of the typical Honda touches. The the center stack was busy with all of those buttons, but I was still very impressed with the interior as a whole. I wasn't all that impressed with the exterior though. The car had some nice exterior features, but you can easily see that the car has gotten a lot bigger. Even the door handles were bigger, too big in my opinion. Plus being chrome, they become quite gaudy. That was about the only exterior feature that I pretty much hated. The headlights didn't protrude as much as I thought, so that was good. Everything else I'm sure I could get used to.

Overall, I'm still very happy with my 7th gen., which is great considering I plan on keeping it for quite a while. However, the 8th gen. looks like it will be a great car and I know that it will grow on me just like the 7th gen. did.

There in Tulsa. I don't believe any Honda release has been here this fast.

The new Accord looks great except the grill. The interior is fantastic. Also there is already a reflash out for the ECU. Knock Sensor issue. The service dept. put a do not sell order on all the Accords on the lot until they reflash them all.

I stopped by one of the big dealerships near the office and they had two '08 Accords on the showroom floor. Both I-4 models -- EX-L in Nighthawk Black / Black and a LX-P in Polished Metal/Grey. Neither had Navi, but both had rear spoilers and mudguards. I was impressed with the EX-L and the amount of room inside. The dash on the non-navi is nice, but the buttons are all similar, so I am sure it wiould take a week or so to get used to the placement and orientation of the most often used buttons relative to the two control knobs. I had the salesman get the key so that I could see the dash light up. It still has hints of the "electro-luminesence" in the lighting, even though the gauges do not "blackout" like the 7th gen. I couldn't start the car, although I didnt' want to, because the service department was in process of reflashing the ECU....

Also there is already a reflash out for the ECU. Knock Sensor issue. The service dept. put a do not sell order on all the Accords on the lot until they reflash them all.

Salesman said they had 64 more on the way tomorrow.

I stopped at a second dealership on the way home to see other colors. None of the 2008s were out front and not a single salesman seemed interested in greeting me. (I wonder why I never deal there?) But, I drove around back and say half a dozen Accords. In the distance a Black EXV6 and two Diamond Pearl EXV6s; too far for notable observations. Close the fence was a Silver EXL I4 Navi with Gray interior. Very nice! Near it was a Bold Beige model that was, to put it kindly, UGLY!!!

I still want to see the Diamond Pearl/Ivory (up close), Basque Red Pearl/Ivory, and Mystic Green/Black before I pick a favorite.

Sorry, I had no camera with me today .... what was I thinking???:dunno:

Only sedans on the lots so far. One customer was at the dealership to see the coupe last night, because he had heard they were out. But I thought they followed the sedans in a couple of weeks. One thing I was happy to see were several "Made in Japan" 2008s .... think that will be what I look for in the next one.

I was just to my local dealer here in North Olmsted, Ohio..... sat in an EX V6 w/o Navi. Great interior. Solid fit and finish, and apparently Honda is using softer materials in the dash padding than they did for the 7th gen. It had that solid but soft feel.

Didn't drive it, but played around a little (radio fuse was removed) - window motor operation is near silent. Glove box is well dampened. Feels like a car costing twice as much.

Love it. I probably won't start sending out my proposals untill April (I email dealers what I am willing to pay, and give them all my specifics up front, tell them the first one to meet my demands gets my business).

Alabaster silver metallic with black interior. 6 Speed coupe, w/o navi. Auto dimming rear view mirror (it's standard on the EX V6 sedan but not the EX V6 coupe) and floor accent lighting accessory kit (check out the accessory list - that accent lighting accessory is sweet).

Back from a quick visit to Royal Honda in Metarie LA (and Target  ).

My Accord looks so innocent and frightened parked next to the 8th gen. It looks like it'd eat my little Accord up! :paranoid: :lmao:

I do love it! They must've just had these come in because they were filthy and still covered in plastic. I wanted to detail one from head to toe! :D

Is there and 8th Generation Accord in MY future? Probably not. The Accord is just a bit too old looking for me. Other cars in it's price range and class have more youthful designs that appeal more to me. The Coupe is a possibility, but I'm still just not sold; neither was my Mother. She's in her 'mid-life' stages, and her first glance at the Accord gave the comment "It looks like something your grandmother should drive. I hate it." Do I see the avg. age of an Accord buyer going down? Nope.

I think it's time Honda just let the Accord go on with the likes of Avalons, Azera's etc. Time to introduce a new, smaller, everyday 4 door. The Civic just isn't a proper fit. When parked next to the new Accord, the Civic looks miniature in length (eye games maybe...) I want a car that's smaller than the 7th gen on the outside (a la TSX sized) but just as spacious on the inside. I personally didn't like how big the 7th gen was in the first place, then they stuck that generic rear end on the sedans for 06. ~yuck~

OR

A Civic with a small V6 might make me a happy camper (next gen - as I realize the engine bay isn't big enough to permit that). Or at least 150-160HP in the 4cyl.

One thing I must say though...

When I go to a Toyota dealership I see a car for everyone. Big, small, wide, narrow, tall, short etc. When I go to a Honda dealership I see not enough variety. There are cars missing in the Honda lineup IMO. I got bored once I saw the Accord, Fit and CR-V (only cars I really care about).

To end a long post...
I hope the next Ody doesn't go aggressive like the current Pilot and Accord did. I know about 6 mom's who think the new Pilot looks too rugged and mean looking. One parent I know said "If I wanted a SUV that looked so 'aggressive' I'd be driving a Dodge." - Mom's seem to love the interiors of the Pilot/Ody but I think Honda can do a better job of making the exteriors of their cars bold and interesting. Boxing things up and raking them backwards on the front of the cars just doesn't do it for me. I was really hoping the new Hondas were going to share the Civic's spacy design and front fascia.

Conclusion; No Honda product is right for me right now. So I'll just sit back and watch for the next one to arrive.

I have to agree w/ tyler. I don't really want the new Accord (4dr). It's too big and does not appeal to younger buyers. I might try to get a decent deal on an 08 TSX in a few months. It all depends how much more the Acura is to insure vs. the honda.

Very good post, and I agree 100%!

Well time to face the facts. My brand new accord is already an old car and soon will just look like an old model, just like what happened to the 6th generations.

Nothing wrong with your car. The 7th gen IMHO is the best Accord to date. Im not going to run out and dump our Accord for a 8th gen this year. It has almost got to big.

Now I may dump my Mazda3 in two years for a Accord Coupe. :naughty:

But over all a purchase concerning a 8th gen Sedan is up to the wife. If she wants one so be. But I dont think its going to happen....

She loves Ruby. :)

Looked at a slew of '08 sedans today:
EXTERIOR:
- Exterior STILL doesn't appeal to me!
- The sedan looks just as porky in person
- The rear door window contour is VERY difficult to get around when the door is opened. Weird, it makes the door stick out too much at an awkward height.
- V6's factory fogs look MUCH better than dealer-add-on foglights on the 4-cyl models
- The new tire size (225/50-17) beats the heck out the 7th gen V6's 215's in availability of a variety of replacement brands/options.
- OVAL exhaust tips?!? WTF? What focus group told Honda THOSE looked good?!?
*** I can't STAND the pedestrian-friendly Japan-and-Euro-mandated snub nose front end!

INTERIOR:
- Front Seats felt slightly better; the power lumbar is a nice feature
- The back seat seemed surprisingly similar to my 7th-gen's in terms of space and comfort, so why all the "pork"?
- Ditto for the trunk space
- The gauges (speedo/tach) looked better than in the photos
- The radio buttons seem WAY too busy, but I guess I'd get used to them
- The steering wheel felt significantly fatter and smaller diameter. Niiice!
- Overall, I'd give it s light edge in richness over my '06's black leather interio, but not by much. Overall, it felt VERY familiar to a 7th gen owner.

SUMMARY:
- To parpaphrase Chris Rock: I THINK I love my 7th-gen EX-L V6 (enough to not want an 8th-gen right now). I think the 7th gen looks better and more lithe, especially in the rear, while it differs little from the 8th gen in functionality and in sensory satisfaction. I'd like to have the 8th gen seats and steering wheel in my 7th gen tho. :naughty:

- The coupe should be a different story altogether, especially the V6 6MT, but the dealer said they won't have any coupe for awhile.

- Is it me, or is something strange with the dealer brochure? It's like they screwed something up and have multiple pages where a revised page is adhered over another one. (just inside the front cover) It just seems rushed and cobbled together somehow. :thumbsdow

I think they were going for some type of "artisitc" design with the black-and-white images and the "Beyond the Road" theme. You get more contrast with the black-and-white photos, but when you want a clear view of the color of the car, that doesn't help....

Surely that is possible and is probably their intent, but it just looks like they did it to save money to me. The book looks cheap and awkward. Even the page in color that displays all of the new Accord colors by using randomly sized and placed cars is bizarre and not very functional for comparing and selecting a favorite color. I just don't think that they made good choices with this book. <sigh> Is it possible that later in the year they will launch seperate books for the coupe and the sedan? (Is that what they offered in the past?):dunno:

I had a chance to get behind the wheel of an 08 V6 EX-L today. My initial impressions…

- Overall, I was pleasantly underwhelmed by the car. There has been so much bashing about the styling inside and out, I wasn't sure what to expect. When I first checked it out, I breathed a sigh of relief. It's "Accord solid and conservative” inside and out with enough little details to keep it interesting.

- The head lights look fine. The horrible bulge that people are complaining about work well with the lines. It doesn't look bug-eyed at all in person. No one had mentioned that the taillights stick way the hell out there, too. But they look good. Actually the whole rear end does not look as bland in person. Both the headlights and taillights are in chiseled enclosures that don't come across at all in pics.

- Interior: Wow - very nice. Again, the dash looks much better in person than in pics. Materials felt good. Controls were solid and had a nice tactile heft. The dashboard looks very good. With gadgets comes buttons and the dash layout looked fine to me. It was my first time in there and I immediately found all the controls I needed. A TON more head room. I didn't hit the visor once with the brim of my baseball cap. Someone mentioned the steering wheel - nice! Smaller in diameter and very thick - especially around the 9 and 3 o'clock position. I had read that the Active Noise Cancellation can make weird humming noises but I didn’t detect anything. Overall, the car did seem quieter. Road and wind noise was still there but they were noticeably muffled.

- Stereo: Eh. It sounded just OK to me. Had some nice thump. Crisp but not "bright" highs. It’s too bad the tweeters were taken off the dash. That gave the sound such great front imaging and made it feel like you were in the music. The door mounted tweeters made me feel like I was sitting in between the speakers, not immersed in sound. I could tell sounds were coming from the left or right and not from a staging field somewhere ahead of the car like the 7th gen stereo.

- Engine: Engine sounded very "throaty". Had a nice "burble" to the exhaust note. :naughty: It didn't sound like it really wanted to rev, though. Pulled strong enough but didn't hork me back in the seat as strongly as the 07 V6 6speed I drove. Went into ECO mode often and stayed thee unless I hammered the gas. Never felt VCM kicking in. Power was always right there.

- Ride and Handling: Firm but comfortable. I liked it, a lot. (I don’t like floaty at all.) Comparing my 06 2.4L with the thicker rear anti-sway bar to a 7tyh gen V6, my car handles noticeably better with much less body roll. The 08 V6 felt like my 06 2.4L. Honda did a great job handling the extra mass. (They supposedly lowered center of mass and center of gravity each 10mm). I could feel the extra mass - its definitely more car – but it hustles around corners and had very refined, controlled movements.

Can’t wait to try the coupes and see how they feel with their “sportier” suspension and smaller dimensions.

So I jst got back From Gunn Honda here in San Antonio. A huge dealer. Many many 8 gen Sedans in the parking lot. Just like the plain 7th generation sedans that sit out there, they didn't appeal to me. But in the center of the showroom they had a Black fully loaded 8th gen sedan and that was beautifull. It had the mud guards, spoiler, sunroof visor..etc. It looked just incredible. The size wasnt too bad at all. Sitting inside was very nice as well. I like the location and desgin of the shifter. Very nice. Wish I could take photos but right now dont have that ability. Fulley loaded with the accesories, that thing was beautifull. I wouldn't mind owning that at all though I am a coupe guy. Black is just such a beautifull color on this car.

I'm gonna say a spoiler is a must. At least in my eyes. It ehnaced the look of the vehicle incredibly.

:banana:Very nice update, which colors did they have? I have been noticing lots of silvers coming in and not much else. I have not yet seen any reds or the green. Anybody got more Polished Metallic shots? :D
