Hey everyone...

Sorry I haven't been around for a loooong time.... a 2 year old will do that to ya!

I'm been having some shuttering when braking from highwy speeds.
Looks like the front rotors aren't very smooth anymore.
Still some life left on the pads, but I'd guess it's down to 10% or so.
Gonna change everything in a few weeks, and was curious about the rotors.
I took the front wheels off today and messed with those retaining screws.
Used my newly-acquired Craftsman impact driver and after a couple whacks with the hammer, they turned just fine! Whew! After reading all the horror stories, I was a bit worried, but they came loose w/ no problems.

So my question is this...on the 2004 EX V6, after those 2 retaining screws are removed and the caliper mount is taken off, does the rotor just pop right off? I realize I may have to whack on it a bit, or do the screw technique (what was the size of those screws again used to push it off)?

Everytime I take my tires off, I undo the locking lugs and think of Wards, since I won them when this site first started! My how time flies!

we always prefer screwing to whacking. but whatever floats your boat, and your wifes too. :lmao:

but anyways.... a 6mm screw is the correct size I believe.

Both are acceptable, as long as they are just "love taps"...

love taps are important. don't want anything flying into your eye when you whack it.

fluids or dry stuff?? and is it caustic or not? that makes a difference when stuff is flying in your eye....

i'm trying to figure this out....

lucky yours came out alright, i spent a good 3 hours getting mine off. Sounds like you just need to take a hammer to the back of them and hammer them forward, goodluck

more info than you need.....it comes with all of this.

I'll ask what he uses to lube it.

Ok....

Now I'm confused.
I could have sworn I read that on the '04s the rotors come off by simply undoing those retaining screws and removing the caliper mount...
But according to that write-up Princess, I have to remove the "spindle nut" as well? And it's torqued at well over 100 ft/lbs? Sheesh...maybe this isn't gonna be as easy as I thought! :dunno:

Bean,

If you notice on page 1 of the attachment, the instructions are for knuckle/hub replacement so it's more information than you need as princess stated. Don't freak out yet. :)

Yeah, I realize there is extra info there...but my question would be: if the rotor comes off first (before the spindle nut) why would that write-up say to take the nut off first?

Like I said, I'm pretty sure I read that the 7th gens don't need the nut removal to get the rotor off...just looking for some clarification before I get everything apart.

the rotor is easy, just a couple of screws.

Thanks P!

I think my Brembo rotors are being delivered today, so I might be able to tackle them this weekend.
