Hey, I just found a tire called a Nokian. I looked them up and they look very good. They have low rolling resistance with a good warranty. I have never heard of this tire but do any of yall know anything about these? I looked at a tire names the i3. Thanks

Right up my alley.

I've had Nokian snow tires for about 15 years on various vehicles - they used to be called Nokia, and then Nokian (yep, same hertiage as the phones). They're a Finland-based company and cut their teeth on snow and ice, and have a long reputation in canada and the northeast as great tires. I've owned probably 6 different sets and have never been let down.

Over the past few years they've gotten more into the all-season market as well, and the i3 is their current target tire to increase their market share. I actually have bought 2 sets of i3's in the past month - one for the Accord, and one for the Civic. They spin up real nice and drive smooth. Only downside is that they've got a continuous nylon casing, which can thump for the first mile or so in the morning - but once warmed up, they're quiet, smooth and as I said, spin great on the hunter roadforce balancer. The tread design on the i3 isn't the best for winter, but considering I run the Nokian snow tires in the winter on separate rims, that wasn't a consideration for me.

Let me know if you need more info - but Nokian is certainly an established brand and they stand behind their tires!

Thanks for your help. I live in Arkansas and we might get snow, once or twice, a year. The winters are not that bad down here. A lot of people want me to change form a V speed rated tire to an H. I never get my accord going fast but does the speed rating also count for braking and turning? By the looks of things I am going with the i3.

I don't think you'll be unhappy with the i3 in those conditions. These tires have a pretty stiff sidewall for an H-rated tire, and they're real beefy, so should last a long time. I drove the civic in the rain yesterday and they're excellent in those conditions. And in my case, the price was pretty decent as compared to other H-rated tires, so that's one of the factors I used (I'm typically a Michelin guy, but they were a LOT more expensive).

I'd go for it.

in my opinion they are the BEST winter tires you can buy. avoid using any of them as all seasons though. even the ones labeled as such wear out quickly when driven in warm weather.

Agreed - the WR (either normal or SUV) are just re-labelled snow tires and kill gas mileage and wear quickly. Their "all season" tires like the i3 do have harder rubber and have a higher treadwear rating, but they lack in the "normal" winter traction you'd expect from Nokian.

But their reputation and quality are top-notch!

Any thoughts or expreience with the Haka 2's? Haven't heard the winter forecast for the great northeast yet but..........thinking of dedicated steelies and snowtires.

Hakka 2's are what I have on the Accord during the winter - 15" LX steel wheels with 205-65R15 Hakka 2's - I have them studded because of the ice we get on the dirt roads up here, but the overall snow traction is outstanding, and after running them 2 seasons they're still like new in terms of tread depth. I run a set of Hakka 1's on the Civic, and the Hakka 2's are definitely an improvement in all areas.

Nokian's are great - this coming from a Subaru AWD driver.
