That looks awesome:

Although just a concept, the Honda Accord Tourer signals Honda's hopes to build a real, genuine, honest-to-goodness station wagon tourer on the Accord platform again. Honda says it plans on building something that will look a lot like this estate by the middle of next year and we hope they aren't lying. This is one of the swoopiest wagons we've seen in a while. Particularly at the rear, it has some beautiful lines that are elegant and sporty, and downright sexy. It makes us think of an Alfa Romeo, which is a good thing. This concept changes very little of the new Accord as we know it, stretching the track and width a bit to help with cargo space and handling. It will feature the 2.0- and 2.4-liter gas engines, as well as Honda's 2.2-liter diesel, as options when it goes into production, which means it will be a full all-Euro 5-compliant vehicle across the board. Honda says we'll see the final version at Geneva and we can't wait. Hopefully a U.S. version will be in the plans as well.

Are you sure this isn't for the Euro Accord Tourer?

I just don't see a market. As much as I want the 'Wagon' to return.

Looks really nice. Some people don't like/hate wagons, but I love them.

I could see this competing against such vehicles as the Dodge Magnum if they through in a much bigger engine. Other than that, I don't know.:dunno:

Then even, I don't know of many of those Magnums flying off the shelves.

Dodge disgusts me.

Their lineup screams trash to me. It's gone all 'aggressive' and 'in your face'. I just hate hate hate it.:thumbsdow

However, the fit gave surprises left and right. The Aveo started that whole cheapy-wagon-odd-thing market and the Fit came 2nd or 3rd to the party and blew those cars away with it's abilities and value. - My local dealer has to 'order' one to test drive!

i honestly don't think a honda will ever directly compete with a dodge. two different markets.

i have to agree with accordlover and say that dodge disgusts me too.... although i love how they tried to interpret a hearse and market it to the masses.......

its the Euro Accord tourer. the front end styling hints at the next euro/JDM accord (aka acura TSX in NA). i doubt they will bring it over since the US seems to hate wagons for the most part. but if it does it will come as a TSX wagon, not an Accord wagon.

I'd trade my 2003 sedan in a SECOND for one of those...........:)

I like the looks of it as well. However, it would have to have an option of a V6 for me to even consider getting rid of the Accord.

As functional as the wagon would be to some in the US I can't imagine it will ever be back. Even the Dodge Magnum is likely dead in the next few weeks. A 79% drop in sales between July and Aug isn't a good thing and it's on the chopping block waiting for the axe. The Pacifica is already technically dead after the 2008 model year.

Yup that's the euro accord all right, although how close to production it is when the whole thing is still an empty plastic shell with stick on door handles :dunno:

I'm probably going to get flamed for this, but I think wagons aren't a good compromise for a SUV or minivan. There are much better alternatives, like the CR-V and its competitior crossovers.

The only wagons I know of that sell well, for whatever reason, are the Passats and V70/XC70 models. Even a 3-series or 5-series wagon is rare in the States. And hasn't Mazda's 6 wagon been killed recently, too??

The one cool thing about the Magnum is that the last few feet of the roof raises along with the liftgate. Otherwise, it's garbage just like everything else chrysler makes. Chrysler used to be known for its innovative design. Remember when the Caravan/Town&Country/Voyagers were redesigned in 1996? Everyone knew their reliability ****ed, but the styling was cool.

BIG difference between a fuel efficient diesel, hybrid or 4CYL wagon from a reliable manufacturer and gas guzzling HEMI behemoth from Chrysler corp..........:lmao:

I'm gonna put a vote in for the wagon here, and part of it is due to our aging american population. And the example is my wife. She's had SUV's forever and loves the 4WD/AWD and the height that they provide. However, as she's gotten older, her arthritic knees have posed a significant problem when trying to lift them over the high thresholds of current SUV's and many crossovers as well. As I've talked about in earlier threads, the search for a vehicle with a decent ride height, 4WD, and a hatch, produced a scant few options out there. As my signature has indicated, she got a Ford Freestyle. Basically, that's a "wagon" version of the Ford 500 (now Ford Taurus) with AWD as an option. Low entry height, tons of room - and basically the dimensions and behavior of a station wagon.

Part of the problem is when you get smaller in the crossover space - say a CR-V, RAV-4, Escape, Edge, Santa Fe, etc - the step-in height is a bit lower, but you lost a lot in terms of motor refinement (no V6 usually), creature comfort (comfortable leather seats, power seats, etc), and general size for carrying people and things. The "station wagon" is actually starting to come back after years of demise - many of the current "crossovers" are nothing but a stationwagon on steroids - but Honda so far has chosen not to enter that market. If you want something with a hatch and/or AWD, it's the CRV/RDX or the Pilot/MDX, and really nothing else (ok - the element - but, well... ). If Honda added something with a rear hatch - say a wagon for the TSX or Accord, and even brought the AWD system in from their other vehicles, they'd have a nitch that would grow as baby boomers start getting older, but still wanting refinement.

Just my view - from an "old fart"

It might differ by region some. In an import strong market wagons might be a little more common. Around here its not unusual to see some Saab, Mercedes, Volvo and BMW wagons. For the BMW and Mercedes its much more common to see a sedan but for the Saab's and Volvo's you see about as many wagons as sedans.

What you see a lot of in the Northwest are the Subaru's. They sell very well around here and in a Subaru, I'm more likely to see a wagon than a sedan. The Impreza variations like the Outback Sport and the Forester, as well as the Outback & Legacy wagons are everywhere.

Another sought after wagon is the TDI wagons. Can't buy them new right now but I've seen 1-2 year old used ones sell for over MSRP, wheras the sedan/beetle tdi market was a little more sane. If they would have made more TDI wagons there'd be more on the road because there's certainly people who want them.

VW is missing the boat.......from what I've heard, the VW diesel is WAY MORE reliable than their gas engines........:dunno:

Well, I beg to differ. I already HAVE an Odyssey, but I think wagons are handy. I guess a Vibe or Matrix would be a compromise, but a real wagon with good gas mileage would sell..........this isn't 1992, when gas was $1.40 a gallon, and Honda couldn't sell their wagon because GM and Ford were having record sales of gas guzzling SUV's............:D
