I'm 6'2" and this isn't so far off from the room in the 2nd row of the Ody. I had sat in the front seat before this and it felt ok, so it wasn't all the way forward. Headroom still a bit tight for me (sunroof equipped model), but much better than other cars.

Thanks for the pix, Ben.
I too couldn't resist the hype so I stopped by the local deal at lunch. They had 2 in the showroom and a lot more in the back being prep. 1st impressions:
- price: 30K plus for a 4 cyc, FWD wt Nav? we're now approaching the bimmer territory
- engine: it looks the same as in the previous model
- interior: very nice. I particulary like the metal accent. The leather trim model has the luxury/upscale look. dislike: I'm not nuts about the double hum on the dashboard. Seats are huge (well.. for us, asian). Also the leather seats already look dirty.
- exterior: just like Ben, I didn't like the head light sticking out. The car seems taller. I didn't like the front grills in the pictures but they actually looked nice in person.
I'm pretty sure the coupes would look sportier and fitted the younger crowd better.
In short, if I had a 7th gen., I probably wouldn't rush to the dealer and trade it in yet.

It's called dealer markup.

Didn't take notice really but it didn't seem odd so it should be pretty standard.
I swear, I'll never understand 'Additional Dealer Markup', particularly on a car that's soon going to be appearing by the dozen. Check that. I understand it...I just won't pay it.
Great pics, tho. Thanks for posting them.

I have been reading this forum for some time now and I must say..The information on the new Accord has been dead on...Good job to everyone..
I am posting my first post due to the crazy price I just seen on the 4 cyl NAVI..
We have been waiting on buying our new car to see the Accord..and so far we like it..
Our other choice is the Nissan Altima sedan...
32k Accord 4cyl w/Nav
32k Altima 6cyl w/Nav...and keyless entry with push button start..
I have to say the price on the accord is a dissapointment...

If honda wants to sell 430,000 of these things, the damn dealers will have to stop with the ridiculous markups. I find it highly insulting to think they can charge, not just a FEW dollars, but several THOUSAND dollars, for a car that will be as commonplace as the Camry (honda hopes).

I was NOT a fan of the gauges prior to seeing them in person. Now that I've seen them up close, I can say that they look pretty good, altho the "old school" looking Honda temp and fuel gauges adjacent to the new Speedo and tach look a little inconsistent with the theme.
I am VERY fond of my '06's gauges, and yet I give the '08 a thumbs up for its gauges.

Hopefully to keep the Noise and Vibration out....
Great pictures!
I will also say that the IP shots, other then the outside looking in on the "welcome" don't do the IP justice. The 7th generation put the speedometer dead center which was nice. But the return to the Speedometer and Tachometer with equal presence is classic Honda!!
Dealer markups are rediculous on a car that is already in great supply. Markups were for short supply vehicles that were in demand like the 2nd gen Odyssey, the S2000, the Miata ..... The accord will sell for MSRP for a few months, but even then, I don't people lining up out to door to buy one (or anything) right now. Hopefully, my December the buzz will have settled and the year-end sales goals will be looming .... by then, I may have even settled on a color.

Yeah, I missed that a lot when I would drive my dad's old 7th gen. Although the D to D3 shift isn't that big a deal. The transmission would always drop fro 5th to 3rd on me when I wanted passing power anyways. The only difference is the inability to do 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. I wish Honda would've given the TSX's Shifttronic 5spd AT to the Accord.
I plat with my 4, 3, 2, 1 quite often. In fact, I've gotten into a habit of starting in D4 when I leave my driveway and I use D3 and 2 to down shift. There's an on ramp to I-10 Here that you have to stop at a light before you get on. I ususally get my rev crave out there. Starting in 1 to right before redline, 2 to redline, D3 to 65, and then up to D4.

The only thing Ive seen out of place so far is the dealer markups. Any body that pays those kinda of numbers is a first class fool.
I was at a dealer today picking up some maint. items for the wifes Accord.
I have to say the only thing I dislike is that god awful grill.
The headlight and taillight shapes are ok. In person you can see how they flow with the body panels. Granted,,, they could have done better.
But I see nothing that is compelling enough to trade in a solid 7th gen for. Nor my Mazda3.

Not to thread jack.....
But ,,,, Benji I replaced the rear wheel bearing/hubs myself at about 20k miles. The right rear was failing. I was sick at that point of being in Honda dealers to get crap fixed that should have never broke. When the rear end went south and the door seal failed. It was history.
I feel sorry for folks that buy the first year 8th gen Accords. The 06 and 07 Civics are falling apart on folks. While most don't put the kind of miles on a car I do. There are some very unhappy x fan folks out there. I hope Honda does a better job with the new Accord......

did they start relabeling the cars now>? like with EX LX etc?
BenjiBoy650
09-14-2007, 11:32 PM
Yup Coupes haven't come in yet, dealer said October but Honda says Sept 20. We shall see.
Everybody says the gauges look better in person...I say they look the same in the pictures as they do in person. It's not UGLY but it's not as purdy as the 7th gen. Same for the center stack.
Prices on the new Accords are way too high. A BASE Accord LX 5MT now costs within a few hundred of my 99 EX I4 5MT cloth when it was new. That's blasphemy! And like people are saying...for 30K you could buy better cars. TSX might come to mind for those in the city, this car is just too big for real maneuverability. People have problems parking a van, say its too big, etc...somehow have no problem with this car which is 0.6" LONGER than the 1998 Sienna :dunno:
Labels are still basically the same, except that added LX-P(remium) and EX V6 takes over LX V6 and SE V6

I agree that some of it is (mis)perception, but I've also found I can more easily park my wife's 2006 Odyssey than my '06 EX-L V6, and that is no doubt due to the significantly smaller turning radius of the Ody (36') as compared to my AV6 (39.5' or so, according to the dealer brochure).
Note that the 8th gen turning radii have been reduced (compared to 7th gen), so their perceived parking lot maneuverability should be as good or better than the smaller 7th gen. Note also that one pays a penalty for fatter tires, as evidenced by the slightly larger turning radius of the 6Mt Coupe, no doubt driven by its bigger (235/45-18 I think) tires as compared to the 225's of the 8th gen 5AT V6's. It's amazing how 10mm in tire width can drive a 1' or more increase in turning radius, but that's apparently what happens when you have to limit turning angle to prevent rubbing of the wider tire.

Basically everything but alloy wheels (however the tires and rims are bigger), sunroof, alarm (keyless entry on the LX), and power seat height adjustment (manual on the LX).
It basically comes down to the fact that it's more car than the 99 Accord so it costs more.

These are all IMHO, don't get your feathers rustled up guys. A man that stands by his opinions, opinions you have the choice to ignore  Here goes:Volvo-esq
http://www.reaction-image.net/albums/album941/IMG_8264.sized.jpgThe more I look at this, the harder it is to love. In might be just in the pics, and it could be the lighting (looks like bright sunlight that makes dust/smudges show up even on a brand-new car), but it seems real ugly. That great expanse of dark plastic above the gauges (which no doubt has hidden icons that light up to indicate various functions) makes it look real cheap. I don't hate the chrome as much as I thought I would, and neither do I hate the moving away from a large central speedo with a smaller secondary tach -- it now looks like a VW, whereas my 7th gen looks more classier in a MB kinda way -- a step down, but still a German :lmao:
Not bad in person
http://www.reaction-image.net/albums/album941/IMG_8265.sized.jpgI have a very specific way of holding the steering wheel when driving one-handed on the 7th gen (think of gripping lower spoke between thumb and index finger, stuffing as many of the remaining fingers as will fit between the opening of the 2 spokes), and this new design kills it. I've been able to do this on all cars I've ever driven, from my previous 2000 Passat to my boss' 760Li. Most sane steering wheels have a normal design, not a futuristic one such as this which I'd expect more of French car manufacturers, not "practical" Honda. Looks like blades that could cut you.
Fender/headlight beautiful in usual Honda tradition
http://www.reaction-image.net/albums/album941/IMG_8267.sized.jpg
http://www.reaction-image.net/albums/album941/IMG_8268.sized.jpgIs this car ever gonna get HIDs, or does Honda think by denying the technology exists it can get away with it? It's shameful that a $30k car which looks like a [___see next item___] has 70s headlight technology (well, futuristic looking 70s technology  ).
Rear looks good in person
http://www.reaction-image.net/albums/album941/IMG_8284.sized.jpgAnd here we have my favorite angle on this new car. From this vantage point, especially looking more from the side than from the back, it looks real good, like a current-gen BMW 5-series.
http://www.reaction-image.net/albums/album941/IMG_8282.sized.jpgThis doesn't look too shabby, but nowhere near as good as the concept, and those "bends" in the grille fins are.. "non-straight" :lmao:
List of issues I have with the car:
No HIDs on any US H-badged cars (wtf!) -- sick of seeing yellow in '07
Redesigned steering wheel incompatible with my grip
Redesigned cupholders are a step down
Redesigned gauges are ugly, loss of electroluminescent effect
Strange look - better, but they did not get "it"
Cheap trunk - thought the "industrial" look was unique to my lowly DX; in either case, not acceptable in '07
No rear AC vents, unacceptable in '07 -- Honda, do you see a repeating pattern here?
Call me crazy, but I'd like a 6MT on the I4. I know, it'll never happen, or it'll happen the same day Honda gets HIDs (read: never).
Castration of armrest storage area, no more dual setup, smaller
If I were a family man, I would probably buy this car (actually, I'd go for the Camry, but same difference). However, I'm not a family man, I'm a young[ish], image-conscious man who got an Accord for a good mix between reliability (bulletproof with I4 5MT), practicality (so many great interior features, not the least of which is the huge armrest storage bin, which has now been castrated) and performance (my '03 weighs under 3000 lb., feels nimble, with a few upgrades handling is excellent). The new car doesn't do it for me. I can pretty much afford to buy any car I want, including V12 cars -- I drive an Accord by choice, not by need.
Oh well, the point is moot anyway since I'm not buying another gas car -- I'm waiting for the new diesels to show up, so if Honda doesn't get its act together and bring a diesel here soon, I guess my next car will be a German diesel of some sort, probably MB or VW. And thankfully, my 7th gen has a lot of life left in it so I can wait for a nice diesel to come along.

On the cars I saw on the dealer's lot, the ones made in Japan had the transparent filmy stuff protecting the hood as shown in the photos above, while the ones made in Marysville all had the white plastic protecting sheets applied.

You answered your question: because its a coupe. (They wanted it to look sporty) The design of the car does not need LEDs since the tail lights are different. In the 07 LEDs enchanced what some might call a quirky design.

VTECaddict
12-10-2007, 01:35 AM
^ its cheaper. and the scissor type hinges dont last as long because the struts wear out.
BMW (except the 3), infiniti (on the Q45), Benz, lexus (except IS) all still use this type of trunk hinge, just their trunk linings cover the arm so you cant crush your stuff. you do lose a little bit of trunk space by covering the hinge like that, because without the cover you can still put stuff around the hinge, whereas the cover would block off a lot of empty space.
Tuolumne
12-10-2007, 11:02 PM
Well my view is either go with the hydraulic hinges (which I actually like), or cover the struts. I can't tell you how annoying the setup on my 02 Accord is, especially when you're carrying something large. Not covering the trunk is unacceptable, IMO. It is just cheap, and looks equally cheap when opened.

So you rather cover the arms and seal off a little bit of usable space permanently, rather than just putting your luggage AROUND the hinges? This makes no sense to me...whether you cover them or not your luggage ain't gonna fit, and if you wanted it to you oughta buy a van like me :lmao:

I guess I don't make much sense when I'm frusterated;) But I was always very unfond of the way Honda designed my trunk. Preferably, I want those hydraulic lifters that take up no space. I mean, a Buick rentacar from five years ago had that. I guess my logic in regards to the protruding lifters is that at least if they are covered I know nothing will get smashed, something I've had happen to my things in the trunk, but I suppose I could blame myself for shutting the trunk hard without thinking of smushing stuff.
