View Full Version : Got a 2008 EXL Sedan with Navi

I had a 2007 CRV EXL non-navi and although I liked it, the seats were uncomfortable for long drives and did not get the greatest gas mileage.

I had not been intending to buy anything, but when I test drove that NHBP 2008 Sedan 4cyl with Navi in the dealership, I just fell in love!

Took it home tonight and I am loving it!

I will post some pics tomorrow.

I am definitely getting the windows tinted, that is a given. The rest, I don't know. Might add the backup camera at one time

ooh please tell me, how much is the backup camera with installation at your dealership?

In fact, how did you do on the purchase price of the whole car? MSRP, over, or under?

Congrats on your new vehicle!

Did not inquire about the backup camera, not interested right now

I am going to find out about the remote starter in a few months as I would like that for the very cold Oregon mornings

I paid MSRP, it had literally just come of the truck the day before

They {Kendall Honda in Eugene, OR} had about 6-7 2008 Accord Sedans {Did not see any coupes on the main lot}. I know they had a v6 EXL sedan and the 4cyl EXL Navi that I got. I don't know the trim levels on the other ones.

I thought I didn't like the 8th generation styling as much as the 7th gen, but your car is beautiful! It looks very luxurious on the inside and very 'luxury sport' on the outside.

Congratulations!

I didn't know the ivory interior was available with the Royal Blue Pearl color! The ivory interior matches really well with the blue. :)

The Accord color chart (http://automobiles.honda.com/accord-sedan/colors.aspx) says it's only available in gray.

Are the color charts often wrong?

This car looks to be Nighthawk Black Pearl...

It is the Nighthawk Black Pearl, though depending on the angle of the light shining on it, it does does look like a VERY dark blue. IMHO

I think the 08 sedan is a nice looking car. However, there are just some little design elements in that irk me everytime i look at it. For example, from the side profile angle, we can see the whole silver window lining. If you look at the rear passenger window, the lining toward the side is not even with the rest. It's noticeably thicker. Why? It makes the design uneven. Hah I know it's nitpicking, but the 08 Accord does have some strange design elements that leave you wondering "Why?"

Just looked at one at the local dealer. Much nicer in person.

Anyone else think it looks small?

What's with the bulging headlights?

The designer must have thought that having it all even would be boring. I think it looks fine that way. IMHO, the details like that one are really well thought out, and it helps to give the car a richer look. But this is just my opinion, and yours is just as valid.

It's big once you get in it.

I also think the bulging headlights are weird.

One thing I noticed when I drove the 08 was that forward visibility is much less. The hood comes up higher to hold that bigger engine and the dash comes up higher as well. The windshield seems much smaller compared to the 07.

Another thing I noticed on the leather interior was that there was a seam running horizontally across the seat that dug into my back the whole time that I drove the car. It made me crazy! Honda has the most comfortable seats, but they totally ruined it with that!

You weren't intending on buying a car but you test drove a car that's probably only been on the dealer lot for a few days? Did they even get the plastic off first? No one goes and casually test drives a car, so obviously you were intending on buying.

I can't imagine how much money you lost trading in a brand new car. Before I signed up to be a member on a car message board I never would have imagined how popular it is for people to just trade in brand new cars. And to think I felt guilty trading in my four year old Mazda 3 for my new Accord.

How's the road noise on the interstate??

That seems to be a common complaint on the 7th Gen Accord (and other Accords).

I agree... I think it's nuts. :screwy:

I can't imagine buying such a large purchase, only to hate it enough in just a few months and lose tons of money (of course these people are always saying: "I lost hardly anything... it was a wash...") whatever. Luckily, my wife and I take about 6 months from initial test drives and subsequent test drives to actually doing the buying. By that time we are well versed in the vehicle we buy.

My retired parents have neighbors that are out of control. Admittedly, these people have lots of disposable income.

They moved in about 2 years ago with a new Tundra Double Cab Ltd. and new style Odyssey. Within months, the Odyssey gave way to a 2006 Civic Hybrid and the Tundra to a 2006 CRV (previous style). Then 6 months later, the Civic gave way to an Acura TSX and the CRV to an RDX (first one I had seen). When we visited last week, we were told they had gotten rid of the TSX and have a new CRV and the RDX is gone... replaced by a Hyundai Vera Cruz (only one I think I've ever seen).

I have no idea what is going on with these people (they don't mingle with any of the neighbors... strange). For the life of me (and my Dad) we cannot figure out what the hell those people are doing. I don't care how well Hondas/Acuras/Toyotas hold their value, they must be taking a bath each time! I told my Dad that their neighbors are gonna get a rude wake-up call when the Hyundai Vera Cruz is traded in 6 months (can you say resale value hell?)

Geez... I can't stand the car buying process. It seems exciting in the beginning, only to become pure drudgery. That's a big reason why I avoid dealers like the plague. No fun in it at all.

I wouldn't dream of going to a Honda dealer to see the 2008 Accords, only to be mobbed by over-zealous salesdudes. I've seen pictures and heck, they'll be all over Orlando and Tampa in about a month or two.

I've been to three central Florida dealers ....

One had the new Accords on the showroom floor the day before they officially released. I got to look to my heart's content with no pressure. I was clear up front that I was just looking.

I've been to my local dealer once just to see more colors... again clear that I was just looking until the prices came down below the current MSRP (or MSRP+). The saleman even admitted that "Yeah, that will probably be about 6 months or so." I am hoping for 3 months, but we'll see what the Fed monetary policy does about that .... anyway ....

The third I have stopped by three times so far, as they are just off the interstate on the way home. So far, I have not even seen a saleman. Maybe I just look like I am not buying ... :dunno: ... but, it is wierd to just wander the lot and look at cars unmolested.

Coggin Honda got a whole slew of 08s in the other day. I've stopped by and taken a look at them up close and I do agree that they look much better in person (photos obviously don't reveal all of the details) although I still prefer the interior and rear-end of the 7th gen. If the 07 were to get totaled, I suppose I'd buy one.

08exl

They honestly do look better in person than in pics IMO. The most bland thing about the car is the absence of the fog lights in the 4 cylinders on the exterior (although I don't like the availible fog lights on the 4 or 6) and the shifter in the interior, more specifically the shifter surround...just really bland, but a shifter is just a shifter right? So if you've only seen them in pics, you should definitey check them out in them in person before dismissing them:yes:

Oh don't worry, this guy got raped on the trade-in. He won't admit it, but there's no way you trade in a one year old car and not take a huge hit in depreciation. All because the seats weren't comfortable for long drives and the gas mileage. Did this guy do any research before he bought the CR-V? It's a freaking small SUV, of course the gas mileage is not going to be great. And how uncomfortable can the seats be? I mean if it's that bad bring a pillow with you for the drive, or a seat cushion, or something. Those are really minor issues to be trading in a car. And I seriously doubt his new Accord is going to get much better mileage. The CR-V is fairly fuel efficient as far as SUV's go, so that was a lame excuse. This guy just wanted a new car.

Man, there would have to a very serious reason for me to trade in a one year old car. Short of it being in a terrible accident with frame damage there is no reason I would ever do that. But Americans are fickle, and they tend not to be fiscally responsible.

I also laughed when the OP said he "loves" his new car. Of course he does, who doesn't love a new car the day they get it home. I give him 12 months before he's out buying something else...

First - None of your gall-darn business how much I paid, got it?

Second - Did I piss in your cheerios in another life? Whats with the personal attacks?

Third - I did test drive the CRV, however most dealers won't let you take it on a 4 hour test drive which is how long it is necessary for the seats to start getting uncomfortable for me. Numbness and sore back is a poor reason to trade in a vehicle? Did you happen to notice that the 08 CRVs suddenly added power seats and lumbar support? I wonder why??? Hmmm....

Fourth - I did not get raped on the trade-in, I had been paying extra per month on the CRV and had some equity in it. I don't pay the minimum every month. Don't even ask for $ figures because as I said, they are none of your gall darn business and I am not required to tell anyone other than my bank!

You tell him! LOL. I don't see why it matters what you trade in or why, I also don't see any real reason for someone to gripe at you about it. It seems a lot of the 7th gen owners are just pissed off that there's a new version of the car out there, maybe that's the root of his anger. or maybe he just woke up on the wrong side of the bed?

When I got my CRV, I had looked at the 2007 Accords

I just did not like those triangular-shaped headlights and the interior seemed dated to me IMHO

I am a gadget phreak, fell in love with the Navi and the handsfree for cell phones, the great seats were just icing on the cake and made the decision easy for me

Not a single personal attack in my post, just some general observastions.

Yep, unless you find a dealer allowing you to take a car home overnight you won't get a four hour test drive. If it were me however I would have done everything possible to remedy the problem before trading a one year old car. Even if it meant buying an entirely new seat which would still be cheaper then the $5,000 - $10,000 a car deperciates in the first year on average.

Your payments must have been enormous in the short period of time you owned your CR-V to wipe out the negative equity and turn it into positive equity. Well good for you.

I could care less what you paid for either car, nor do I remember ever asking. It's your money not mine. Like I said I never would have believed how many people choose to piss away money buying new cars every year had I not joined this messageboard. Trust me, you're not the only one and I'm sure you won't be the last. I guess I notice it more often then other people because while being fiscally conservative in my private life, I'm also a Senior Accountant/Financial Anaylst in my professional life so I'm always looking at numbers. But you sure are going to make the next person who buys your CR-V very happy; you ate up all of the depreciation and they get a new vehicle in the process. Sounds like a great deal to me.

If it were me however I would have done everything possible to remedy the problem before trading a one year old car. Even if it meant buying an entirely new seat which would still be cheaper then the $5,000 - $10,000 a car deperciates in the first year on average.
Do you really think a CR-V depreciates up to $10,000 in one year? And an entirely new seat would not match the vehicle.

Your payments must have been enormous in the short period of time you owned your CR-V to wipe out the negative equity and turn it into positive equity. Well good for you. I have not made a single extra payment on my Accord and don't have any negative equity at this point. The resale value of a Honda is the beautiful part of owning one.

I guess I notice it more often then other people because while being fiscally conservative in my private life, I'm also a Senior Accountant/Financial Anaylst in my professional life so I'm always looking at numbers. Perhaps you should pay attention to your finances and leave others to their own finances. I am an Accounting Manager and fiscally conservative. However, I also enjoy the nice things that I can afford because of my work. My Accord makes my daily commute more enjoyable . And the 2008 that I plan on buying long before the depreciation or useful life is done on my 2006 will make me happy. There is more to life than just dollars and cents. Any good Accountant or Financial Analyst knows it is the story behind the numbers that is just as important as the numbers themselves.

To 2008_EXL_Navi and 08exl: Congratulations on the new rides! I hope they continue to make you happy for many miles to come. I plan to join you in 8th generation bliss in a few months.

If you really cared less, then why are you attacking 2008_EXL_Navi over his recent purchase. It sounds like you are just jealous because you have to remain "fiscally conservative" by not trading in that 2007 in for a 2008. Besides, if you were really that "fiscally conservative" you never would've bought that new 2007 anyway. Don't you know how bad of an investment a new car is?? Bottom line: it's their money and they will spend it as they see fit. They know their own financial situation and you do not, so just be happy for them and their new car because they sure will.

Nice light shots.

Just curious, did Honda ever add backlighting to the driver's door window controls? This feature is even on some cheap cars from other companies, but Honda for years chose to save it for Acuras. Had it on an 89 Legend, but not on my 99 Accord EXV6.

The two links above took care of what I wanted to see...I can't think of anything else.

Thanks anyway for your willingness to take some pictures for me 08exl. :)

Oh btw, I noticed the steering controls are not illuminated right?

The window controls are illuminated in the 7th gens., so I'm assuming they chose to add backlighting in the 8th gens.

I thought I read somewhere that the steering wheel controls were illumninated, but looking at that pick I don't see any steering wheel lights.:dunno:

The steering wheel controls are illuminated in the 08 EXL I have. They just might not show well in a picture

The 2008 Accord indeed has illuminated window controls, as did the gen 7.
Thanks for the update. I had never checked the 7th gen for this feature.

We were planing on replacing our 99 with an 03, but the "family boss" wrinkled her nose at it, feeling it lacked the understated class of our 99. I had to agree (one has to always agree with the family boss, as a peace keeping strategy :D). So we kept the 99, and it's still perfect.

She likes the 08. It's time to do it.

Well, I think it's obvious that Honda emulated the current e60 5 series when designing the accord so they went as far as using one of bmw's trademarks, bmw's are known for that c-pillar, I suppose Honda made it thicker to differentiate just a little. http://www.bmwusa.com/uniquelybmw/design/detail CLick on Hofmeister kink

I love your car! I just have a question since i've been looking at a CRV and an Accord. does your Accord get better milage and have more power? Which one was quieter? and lastly, do you miss the CRV's extra cargo room? Thank you so much, the answers to that will help me a great deal. :D

Did you notice if they had any Mystic Green in stock? That color seems to be elusive in this area. Its the only color I haven't been able to see with my own eyes.

I liked the green, but the black interior does show a lot of lint/dust.

Sorry, been a while since I've been in here

Accord gets better gas mileage and is quieter

Don't miss the extra storage that much; have a buddy who would let me borrow his V8 Chevy pickup if I really needed to get/move something that big

The trunk is pretty big!
