My brother has a toyota van with alloy rims, he said to never buy a stock car with alloy rims since you will always be putting air in your tire. My current honda has steel wheels and I told him he is wrong and that there probably something wrong with his rims. I had another friend who was looking at getting alloy rims for his civic.

he is wrong. that is just stupid. that means now with tpms on cars, your just going to have the warning come on regularly just because you have alloy wheels? I don't think so.

he probably has corrosion on the bead surface of his wheels. that is a common issue with cheap alloy wheels. even if they are cheap oem ones.

The only time I've seen issues with Alloy wheels is when some are run for many winters with the salt and sand up here, they can get corroded around the bead area and slowly lose air. But that was more true with earlier alloys, and you don't see it much any more. We ran our '04 Pilot through 3 winters up here with the alloys and saw no corrosion whatsoever.

Dumbest thing I've ever heard. My advice, don't take any more of your brother's advice.
