Hey i have the 6501 component set amped with the kickerzx200.2 and im getting distortion when i try to crank it loud is this normal? im running a stock head unit and tuning doesnt seem to be working, what could the problem be?

How did you set your amp gains?

if i set em 3/4 a way they start distorting around 24 on my HU, if i put it 1/2 way it starts distorting around 30

3/4 is too high. I'm guessing 1/2 is also high since it still distorts.

The HU starts distorting a 0db signal at around 30. But if you're testing using music and not testing tones then most likely it will only be noticeable only above 35.

What I did was download a 0db test tones CD (can be downloaded for free) and burn it. Play a 1khz tone with amp gain at 0. Set HU volume to 30 and increase gain until the 1khz tone clips (you will hear the change in tone when it clips). On my amp with the polks it clips a little above 1/3.
