What appear to be official press shots of the all-new 2009 Honda Fit have surfaced online for the first time. The new Fit should be making its official debut in a few weeks at the Tokyo Motor Show, with home market sales beginning this winter. The Fit should subsequently head over to American showrooms next summer. The new model has a pronounced one-box shape with a sleeker look than the current model. The car in the photos also gets a panoromic glass roof.

What do you think?

I agree, it does look pretty cool. To me it looks like a 4 door version of the Civic Si HB.

That glass roof is awesome too. I remember when the JDM CRXs had the glass top. Very slick.

it looked like the previous gen civic SI to me as well....

it don't look bad tho; seeing it in person is when i'll pass final judgement... :)

anyone know if the US getting them at the same time (ie this fall?)

it'd be weird for the plant to make both the new and old gen since all (US) fits are made in japan.

I don't know. I think they look good enough that I am thinking about how nice it would be to own... but then I say to myself that this accord is supposed to last me for 10 years.

My godmother and I were just driving the Fit Sport last weekend.

It really is a great little car. Nothing outstanding on paper, but it's a vehicle that someone who owned a 1980's-early 90's Civic, CRX, etc. could really appreciate.

Yeah, you can hear the engine when you're goin' 60-80. No, it's not a show stopper at a red light race (unless that race happens to be with a chevy aveo :lmao: ). I didn't dislike that I heard the engines every revolution; I embraced it. It made me feel connected with the car, I could hear everything it was doing! The car stops on a dime (123ft ABS std.), turns faster than you can ask it to. It's just all about the go, go, go!

The low dash and windows provided that excellent viability which seems to no longer exists in these newer Honda's where you feel like you're drowning because the dash and door lines are so high. There are no thick pillars! It's just everything I once knew Honda to be.

Some people, will drive the fit and complain about all the things I love about the car. That's fine, it's not the car for them. It's a car with ingenious use of space, unimaginable configuration abilities, a power train eager to do what is asked of it, the kind of car you thought stalled at a light (it is quieter than an Accord at a light. No doubt), it's just a perfect fit for a certain amount of people. The formula is apparently working too as far as sales success goes.

I'll urge my godmother to give the Fit a wait. Her odyssey will just have to hold out for a year or two. This car will be much more worth the wait, especially for someone planning to keep it for 10+ years. She had a 1990 Civic Wagovan before that Odyssey, and the Fit is going to fill that void in her life.

I love you Honda.

The next fit is supposed to begin US production to better meet consumer demand. Dealers have at least 1-3 people wanting each car they have available for sale at all times. A test drive last weekend left me waiting for 5 people ahead of me, and one person ready to yank the keys away as soon as I was done.:lmao:

These people want those Fits!

The new Fit will probably come mid next year for us. They already started 08 production, so 08' as an 09' model will more than likely be the year. Unless... Honda pulls one of those 2007.5 things. I always hate it when car manufacturers do that. Confusing!

I don't understand how the fit has attracted as much rabid desire as it has given that there are a couple other cars out there that should fit the bill of most prospective fit buyers. I still think that it is one of the uglier cars I've seen in a while and can't see myself ever saying "I want a fit". I would be more interested if it had more of a CRX body style to it rather than the mini-van sort of profile that it has. I think if I were in the market for a small car that got great gas mileage, I'd lean towards the civic more than the fit at this point, though the trade-off there is obviously storage space, but the look of a wagon, save maybe subaru/audi's offerings, just does not appeal to me.

However, I think the idea of a small, fun to drive car that doesn't rely on a huge engine is a good one and something that a lot of people will get on board with these days (I would too, but not in that body style). The problem with most cars the size of the corolla and smaller engines is that they are made with the only consideration being getting from point A to B, completely sacrificing the fun-factor.

Has anyone ever driven a yaris? Are those fun to drive?

I did. It's not fun to drive. It's not even fun to look at.

I think it's better to look at than the fit, but that's just me. Too bad about the fun factor, guess that's to be expected given that it's a toyota. poor toyota, theyre so bland now... They need to bring back the celica and/or the supra.

I know a few current gen fit owners who went up to 17's and back to 15's (aftermarket), as the car didn't drive as well with them apparently.:dunno:

Those seem to fill the wheel area rather well though... I must say.

Yeah...well, probably because the tires would be super thin. 16" rims would be good enough on a Fit.

I can't figure out why anyone would seriously want a fit other than "penny pinchers" that want a new car. super cheap new car, fuel efficient, etc. but that's it. I see no other purpose for it myself..... but there is a market for that of course.............

Hm.

Well my godmother makes more than enough to buy essentially any mainstream vehicle (Honda, MB, Lex, Acura, etc.), her last car was 27k OTD (ody), but she wants a Fit simply because it's a car that she can drive around town, put her skate bags in (rollergirl), the kids on occasion (dad stays at home and works; she drives to work), gas mileage, earth friendliness is also a key element in her car decision. Plus, for the days when the Fit ain't such a fit, there's an 03 Accord in her driveway.

A Prius sounds almost perfect doesn't it?

Aside from the fact that it's terribly, slow, scary to drive on the highway, and completely wants nothing to do with fun to drive.

I'd like a fit in my life. But I'd still want another car to drive I think.

I can deal with not fast, but terribly slow, and scary to drive on the highway to me says, avoid that car. and just because her last car was $27K and could afford more, doesn't mean she isn't in the mood to pinch pennies.

I forgot to add eco-freako's, earth friendliness? sheesh.

Looks a lot better than the dated one we have now. Maybe will drift some Scion buyers to the Fit now. The Fit was compared to 2 Scions and it lost because of the styling. I think now it will definitley be TOP OF THE CLASS. Great step for Honda! :)

I just hope they change the steering wheel. TOO SIMILAR to the Civic.

From Car And Driver's test of the Fit...

We later confirmed this when the Fit sailed through our lane-change test 6 mph faster than anything else here — faster, in fact, than a Corvette Z06.

I forgot to add eco-freako's, earth friendliness? sheesh.

Eco-Freako's... :lmao:

do not mean to offend anyone but I think it looks like honda's "special" child. I hate hatchbacks and this reminds me of one so I vote ugly, very ugly.
