Can't argue with that logic, especially since my gen. 7 is paid off and not having a car payment is :thmsup::yes::banana::D:):thumbsup:.

yeah, I just bought my 7th gen almost a month ago. I like it because I paid probably $10,000 less that one could get a similarly equipped EX-L for 2008 now.

but its far from paid off :(

Good point there! I've got quite a ways to go before having mine paid off lol. I always plan on a payment though, I doubt I'll pay this one off before I get something new but you never know, I've never owned a honda before and I am lovin' it thus far. Maybe I can hold out until gen 9...

My 1st 7th gen(03' EX-l) was almost paid for. I had about a year left. Then for some reason I bought my 2nd one last year(07' EXl V6 w/Navi). I thought I had to have the V6 and the Navi. I love the navigation but I should have stayed with the 4cyl though. Congrats on yours being paid off.

I have that "paid off" feeling too. And I also like the larger CD bin in my 7th gen that fits my traffic-enabled nav system like a glove. Too bad the Accord factory nav doesn't come with traffic - surprising since the Altima does it.

Nissan needs more gimmicks, since we all know how some of their "powertrain stuff" works..........:paranoid:

Because I don't have any other gen than this to love.

I have no reason to move to a 8th gen V6 6 speed. Every magazine seems to find its top 0-60 is 5.9. Which is the same as my 7th gen sedan. Where does that extra .5 of motor and hp, torque go? Seemingly nowhere but to pull the more weight the 8th generation carries. So for those who buy for power numbers I would jump on the last remaining V6 MT 7th Accords.

If the two are equal performance wise wouldn't that make the 7th and 8th gens be equally desirable? At any rate, a much better deal could be had on an 07' if you like the 7th gen bodystyle better or if money is tight. But beyond the 0-60 numbers, the 08 has improved suspension and a stronger frame etc., worth figuring into the equation of you are performace oriented IMO. Both are great cars:thumbsup:

I really like the 8th generation Accords--both the sedan and the coupe. I didn't care for the styling of the 7th gen sedans as much. That said, I do like my '05 coupe better than the '08s and will hang onto it for a couple of reasons (in order of importance):

* It's nearly paid for :)
* I like the sleeker styling of the 7th gen coupes better than the 8th gens
* I far prefer the simpler interior styling and controls of my 7th gen
* Mid model build--bugs were mostly ironed out by 2005
* From what people are saying about the V6, I doubt the extra power of the revised 2.4-liter makes much difference in performance (particularly since its torque output didn't make similar gains). I'm very happy with the performance of my '05 2.4.

I took the time to check out a 2008 sedan while I was getting an oil change a week or so ago. Here's what I like better about the 2008s:

* Bluetooth
* Color choices (the pearl white--not sure of the exact name--is beautiful)
* Variable cylinder management for the V6 (I will buy another 4-cyl or diesel Accord, but this is nice for those who would like a V6)
* Exterior build quality is vastly improved

I didn't actually drive the car, so I can't compare ride/drive. I will do that sometime in the near future, though. I would definitely consider trading my '05 in sooner if Honda would drop a diesel into the Accord. Overall, I'm quite sure the 8th generation will be another winner for Honda.

Paid for + better rear looks than the huge empty space that is the 8th gen coupe trunk.

I wish nissan would drop the gimmicks and concentrate on quality for once. I really like the designs of a lot of their cars, but it's hard to justify purchasing a car that will more than likely end up being a piece of crap, even if it does have pushbutton start (who cares).

Nissan is not good stuff. I almost bought a Altima SE-R. I still follow their forums and a lot an SER MT owners have clutch problems that are major. I rented a 07 Maxima SE and you can feel the cheapness when you shut the doors and touch the interior parts. The Maxima is suppose to be a higher grade of car than our Accords but its feels lower.

Ed,

I had contact with someone in the know yesterday and he told me late 08, early 09 we will see the diesel here!!! So keep your fingers crossed. It makes sense since the Hybrid Accord did not sell the way they planned.

I can't wait until my car is paid off! This is only the second new car I've ever owned. Before this one I had a Mazda 3, and I was very close to paying that off before buying my Accord. I had the Mazda for four years. This Accord however I am keeping for way more than five years, so not only will it be paid off but I'll get to enjoy many years of no car payment.

It is amazing to me how people resign themselves to "always having a car payment." Why? I guess these people don't mind the loss of $400 - $500 a month going to some bank. Not me, there are about 400 things I could think of doing with my $400 a month payment other than paying a bank. Thankfully I have a very nice retirment money market account plus company 401K. The people that really blow my mind are the ones with no savings who keep buying new cars. They're going to regret their foolish ways when they're retirement age and they spent all of their money on "toys."

Keep in mind the VCM is for the V-6 AT only. Funny thing is the AT with VCM gets EPA est. 19/28 but the coupe w/o VCM isn't much worse at 17/25. :scratch:

It may not seem like a lot on paper but for somepeople its a big difference and for marketing purposes its also a big difference.

You're probably right. I have a feeling if one nursed the 6MT they could easily equal the mileage of the VCM equipped AT, maybe even surpass it.
Also, the EPA estimates are all a little less optimistic starting this year, so any decent driver should be able to beat those numbers in both cars.

It appears the the EPA is being realistic concerning the style of driving (more aggressive) that the typical MT driver will display. Also, modern computer controlled ATs will keep the engine at optimal revs, and it is not likely that the do-it-yourself shifter will be as careful. I know, there are some MT drivers that are very skilled, but the EPA deals with averages, not you and I.
