Has anyone discovered a solution to the home link not working with garage door openers that have a code hopping or shifting sequence?

I sure would like to use the home link rather than a remote clipped to my visor.

I don't know about your '08, but I believe in my 7 gen. there were instructions for how to program the homelink to work with garage door openers with a rolling code. I can't remember exactly how the programming worked, but I know that it involved pressing a button on the back of the garage door opener itself.

The homelink in my chrysler works with the new genie I installed. Check your manual a little more. Some openers (the one in the garage) can only handle so many remotes, so if you have a lot already, you may need to think about that, I found mine couldnt handle more than 5.

For openers with a rolling code sequence, there should be a "learn" button on the door opener itself. You'll need to get a ladder, climb up there, and find the button. At the appropriate point in the programming sequence you (or a helper) will need to hit the learn button to sync the Homelink transceiver in the car with the garage door opener.

get on a ladder! Jeeze, that requires a beer first:D

Thanks guys, I knew there had to be a way and I have yet to crack the 1" thick manual. I just scanned the quick guides.

I know, I know.... RTFM

of course, you don't need to tear anything apart.... but this has the coding instructions.....

I'm giving this a shot when I get home... details to follow!

Either this will help or it will just serve to prove how stupid I am... or perhaps both. ;)

I just went through the whole Homelink training thing with my '08 and had problems. I did the whole thing with the ladder and the learn button several times and it wouldn't work. I was getting increasingly frustrated, as this is my 3rd Accord with HomeLink and I got the other 2 to work. Unfortunately, both of the others were programmed too long ago for me to remember the details. Anyway, I finally figured out where I got confused.

The owner's manual has a section called "Training HomeLink" and a section called "Training With a Rolling Code System". I knew from my previous Accord that my garage door opener has a rolling code system, so I just jumped right to the "Rolling Code System", thinking that the "Training HomeLink" section was only for openers without a rolling code system. To make matters worse, somehow I managed to misunderstand the very first instruction "Make sure you have properly completed the ‘‘Training HomeLink’’ procedure, still thinking that it wasn't necessary with my rolling code opener. I finally realized that maybe the first section was for all garage door openers, including rolling code ones. Sure enough... so I went through "Training HomeLink" and then through "Training With a Rolling Code System" and it worked the first time. So I admitted to myself that I'm an idiot and moved on with my life... :headbash:

This may not be your problem, but it solved a similar problem for me. Good luck!

That is how I programed my '06. Good luck!

This is a 2 step process for the rolling code openers. The HomeLink must learn your factory remote from your garage door opener, then the opener learns the HomeLink from the car. I was thrown off at first as well but now have programed Homelink to open mine and my parents opener using these steps.

You must first clear the codes on the home link by holding the two outside homelink buttons (1&3) about 15-20 seconds until the light flashes fast then release. Then take the garage remote and press the main button and the number 1 button on the home link at the same time and hold and after a few seconds the home link light will flash fast, release both buttons.

Now press and release the button on the back of the opener and within 25-30 seconds press and hold the homelink number 1 button until your opener light flashes then release it will now work like normal.
