My 2008 Honda Accord displays the oil life in the center console. I was wondering if I changed the oil myself, would the counter reset by itself, or I need to have a mechanic do it.
Thank you in advance.

No, the counter is a software that calculates oil life based on operating conditions. It needs to be reset whenever the oil has been replaced. There are instructions on how to do it in the owner's manual.
Be sure to wait until the meter counts down to less than 15% before doing your first change. Ignore the dealer and their recommendation to replace it at 3750, 5000, or ???. The official recommendation from Honda is to replace it when the maintenance minder drops to 15%, period. This could be well before 3750, or well after that.
