We were on our way out to dinner on the freeway when the car in front of us kicked up a piece of plastic that smacked into my bumper at a gazillion miles an hour. :bawling:

My wife thinks I am nuts. She says it's barely noticable, but it's going back to my dealer next week to get it fixed.

I ask you, is there anyone out there that would let this damage remain on your new car?

Generally, Life is Good!

But occationally, IT ****S!!!!!

3M clear bra would have prevented that. Just an idea for future modifications.

If it was on a plastic panel like that, yeah I would've left it.

Touchup paint and I'd be fine.

Metal surface is different though, it can rust.

I would be bothered by it. But sometimes you have to just not let it get to you like the little chip on the plastic of my steering wheel phone controls.

It's inevitable that you are going to get some chips to the front of the car.

Give it a rub with a eraser and then hit it with touch-up paint.

On a brand new car? No way. If it bothers you, it doesn't matter if she can't see it.

Can you live with just a touch-up or will you want the whole bumber painted. Most dealers have guys they call who hand touch up little nicks & door chips. Their work is almost undetectable.

I'm very sorry to see and hear about this. There are only two 8th gen Accord Coupes on DA thus far and both are having cosmetic problems already. Very, very sad. I hope the dealer helps you out and not just sell you a new bumper (like they will probably do if it is deep enough). When you get it fix invest, in a 3M PPF package. I was lucky that nothing happened to my 7th gen Coupe in between the time period when I bought my car to when I got the clear bra installed (3 months). The clear bra will prevent some of these chips and nicks.

I know it really ****s. And not to beliddle your frustration.

Imagine getting your car home and finding this....

The dealer is going to repair/replace my bumper next week and give me a loaner car.

If it does not get fixed to my liking and match perfectly. I am going to one of the best shops in LA and going to have them redo it.

The estimate to fix the current hole is $710.00

If it really bothers you then fix, it but I would wait a little bit till you really need to do it or eventually gets out of your mnd. I think it will be a little bit before dealers and repair shops will be familiar with the car. Thus the reason I am in fear of what they are going to do to my car to fix it.

I hope it doesn't have to go that far for both of you.

Hope those repairs go well for you...looks very expensive.

I think this is a good example of how a 3M clearbra would have prevented this expensive repair.
**I'm currently installing mine on my Tundra as I write this.

Paint Chips and bumper covers are not rocket science. I've replaced a bumper cover on an Accord before, it took about 1 hour. I have no mechanical knowledge when it comes to actually fixing most things.

All the Honda shop manuals are very well illustrated, and there really isn't any aligning to do if they put the cover on correctly.

Wouldn't the front plate cover that hole or was it caused by the installation of the front plate bracket?

Thanks for everyones thoughts. After relaxing a bit and changing the oil in my toys, I will prolly wait a bit before acting. It's a very small "cut" not deep but enough to remove color. I will prolly just do some buffing and touch-up paint.

I thought about the 3M clear guard but I have yet to see an install that does not look worse that the pits and scratches that drive will give a bumper. Maybe someone will post som good pics to change my mind

Are you talking about that little chip in the paint or am I missing something? It's the first of many so get the touch up paint while you're at the dealer.

As for me I'd hit it with touch up paint and wait for the next one.

If you are going to be driving your vehicle on a freeway or any road for that matter, you will be hit with various rocks and debris from just driving. Even if you didn't have any cars around you and on a perfectly paved new road, you'd still have the wind, which carries dust & dirt particles. Let alone a bird could fly by and take a poop on your new car, too. If you want the car to be in "sterile" condition, you'd have to not drive it and keep it in the carport all day.

I got a fairly decent rock chip from day 1 of my car. It made me sick, too. But, I know that more will come and it's something that you can't avoid. If that were the situation, I would have gotten a POS beater to drive to work.

That was caused by incorrect installation by the dealer.

I took the bracket off because I have never liked how my coupes look with a front plate.

I guess I need to explain why I wigged out on this. This is my first "car" in nearly 10 years. My daily driver has been a diesel pickup that pulls my Toyhauler. Needless to say, the bumpers are black heavy plastic over steel and if you were smacked by a baseball sized rock, you might never now it.

Fast forward 10 years to my new Coupe and the first UFO ding I have seen in a decade. Just need to change my frame of mind and get some touch up paint.

Any pictures of the truck :)?

It's not much to look at, just an 04 white Silverado Duramax shortbed, 4door with a Banks 6-gun bundle with speed loader that generates a total of 436 hp and 843lb-ft of torque. Pulls my 16,000 toy hauler up the Sierra grade at 65mph. Just your run of the mill old pick up truck!:D

Oh, and a frame mounted 4.5cfm compressor with twin 4 gals tanks to inflate tires, run air tools .... and my 3way train horns

Oh.. and a 60 gal fuel cell for a total of 87 gallons of D onboard giving me about 950 mile range when towing. (I don't like to stop often)

Oh... and did I say that it can do a quarter mile in 14.8 seconds, but not when towing:naughty:

It's just a truck!

Touch up the nick, don't repaint the bumper, I have yet to find one shop that can guarantee their aftermarket paint will be as durable and adhere as well as the OEM paint, nobody can give me a reason that I can believe why not, including shops that repair high end vehicles.

It's disconcerning that when a shop quotes nearly $5G to repaint the front bumper, hood, and two mirror housing of my 96 Integra GSR and STILL can't promise the adhesion and durability will be as good (note not better) than OEM paint.

Get 3M Clear Bra or the Venture Shield equivalent, a good install will be nearly invisible and WILL save you a lot of the paint chipping and abrasion from highway driving.

It's worth it!

I'm of the opinion that every new car has a "christening" moment, where at some point in the first month of ownership, something happens that makes it not quite so "new" any more. And the real question is - how significant is that "christening" moment. Trust me - a rock chip on a plastic bumper is about as insignificant a moment as you can get- a bottle of touch up paint from the dealer and a quick dab will make it 90 percent gone - and only you will know it's there - but treat it as the event that shows the initial christening has occurred.

Things could be a lot worse - here are some 'christening momements' to some of my new cars over the years...

- 03 Pontiac Aztek - 2 weeks old, paralell parking downtown - opened door and had wind take it and slam it all the way open into a mailbox - nice crease on the door
- 06 Acura RL - rock through the AC condensor in the first week
- 05 Accord - backed into a high corner curb - nice little nick in the rear bumper

and the worst, and most embarassing

-83 Camaro Z28 - wife's car - got a little too close when mowing the lawn at the edge of the driveway, and left a nice 12 inch scrape along the door from an exposed bolt on the mower handle. Now THAT was an unpleasant experience. :thumbsdow

So fix the nick and move on, and just tell yourself that the "initial christening" is out of the way painlessly!

Well said and it's already behind me... especially after a fantastic midnight drive up a winding Hwy 49 through the Sierra foothills.
I gotta say, I would have liked to have HID headlights but the projector lamps on this Coupe are incredible! I used the high beams only once, and that was to signal an approaching driver to dim his.
The multi link rear suspension is a marked improvement over the 07 I test drove.

May I ask how much you paid for your '08 V6 coupe? I can imagine the rear multi-link is great.

Your remark about lights, reminds me of a question I have. My 99 Accord has a pull-pull high/low beam switch. My 03 Mazda has a push-pull switch (which I prefer). Has Accord changed this yet?

We used to have an 89 Acura Legend which had the push-pull switch, so Honda knew about them 10 years before my Accord was built. The push-pull switch allows you to feel the position of your lights before turning them on. To me, that's a benefit.

Yup, it's a push pull now.

When it comes to the first nicks/dents, I judge it by the location, severity and time since purchase. On my last car (2004 Acura EL), I had a nasty door ding on the drivers side rear door that was so bad it dinged in two spots (and both happened on crease lines). It happened 3 weeks after I got the car. I was soooo pissed. I ended up getting it fixed and it cost $300. It was a lot to pay and I knew that there were more dings to come but the car was so new and the ding was right there where I would see it every time I approached the car. Spending the 300 bills hurt and was definitely a p/o too, but once spent it was easier to forget than looking at those dents every day.

'christening momements'

I bought a brand new 2000 Nissan Frontier Crewcab XE 4x4 truck from Carsdirect.com. The second day I drove that truck was to Palo Alto, Ca to do a job for a brokerage firm in town. I parked in a public outdoor lot. An 'object' that must have been the size of a marbel impacted the roof of the truck from a great height and left a cute little 'dimple' in the roof. My obsessive/compusive vision 'saw' that dent from the sidewalk and despite the claim from the Wife that she couldn't even tell it was there I KNEW it was dented...after a while the effect of the dent wore off...so much so that while driving to Tahoe on I80 some time later and I came upon a chowder-head driving a Ford pickup hauling 3/4" gravel and before I could get around him on the freeway, the three of the pieces of gravel falling from the bed of his pickup got me; broken clearance light, chip in windshield and BIG ding on the front bumper...those things hardly phased me at all :-)

The wife would absolutly go crazy if this happened to hers. She would hunt the perp down who kicked it up and inflict the damage (probably worse) on his/her vehicle. Then she'd have a melt down!!!
