You'd be surprised how many families have a lot of history in Military service.
My dad is a retired Chief after 27 yrs in the AF, my older 1/2 brother is 20 years in an is a SMSgt, I have many uncles (dad's side) who served in the military....several who were Army Air Corps pilots (dead now), then there's me and my little brother who is at WestPoint.
For me...I just couldn't see life w/o being involved in the military. I've been around it all of my life and it is what is familiar to me...so it is easy to say the military life is very comfortable to me.

I don't know my cousin well enough to have any idea how he'll do..... the MB service manager at my work is one of their neighbors, so he probably knows him more than I do and he was surprised by his decision....

CMSgt.....although not the AF Chief...pretty dang awesome when you consider its only 1 percent of our enlisted force makes chief!
I think my brother is on his way too :)

Ah, I gotcha now. To me a Chief is strictly Navy. A CMSgt is completely different. Both command high respect when they are at the top enlisted status.

My father in law served many years in the Air Guard. I could be remembering this wrong but I thought he retired as a "Master Chief". My wife says whatever it was its the highest you can go without a college degree. Who knows, but I do know for sure when family is joking around one of his nicknames is Chief.

TT timing belts are a pain in the butt... had to do two this week. one stripped teeth off, so we had to fix the cylinder head, the other was preventative. the one that stripped the teeth off had 103K miles. due for replacement at 105K. guy passing through, from one state to his home state. had to fly home last friday. gonna fly back to get his car on tuesday I think..............

also finished a timing belt on an RS6 on monday. they didn't feel the need to change the belt setup from the basic A6 4.2 to the twin turbo version so they lowered the belt replacement interval to 35K miles. and since warranty pays for maintenances, it didn't cost the owner anything to get it replaced........

ya he has a egr problem, and he doesn't drive it that hard but he opens it up once and a while just to work out the turbo,:naughty: and clear out all the build up. it is actually good for the tdi's to drive them hard, if not then stuff like the egr, and turbo will go out / get clogged. idk why but that is what i found out from the tdiclub.

Serious Head Injuries Prompt Recall of Bumbo Baby Sitter Seats - New Warnings and Instructions to Be Provided To Consumers
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of Product: Bumbo “Baby Sitter” Seats
Units: About 1 million
Manufacturer: Bumbo International, of South Africa
Hazard: If the seat is placed on a table, countertop, chair, or other elevated surface, young children can arch their backs, flip out of the Bumbo seat, and fall onto the floor, posing a risk of serious head injuries.
Incidents/Injuries: CPSC has received 28 reports of young children falling out of the Bumbo Baby Sitter seat, including three skull fractures, which occurred when children fell out of chairs that had been placed on tables.
Description: The bottom of the children’s seat is round and flat with a diameter of about 15 inches. It is constructed of a single piece of molded foam and comes in yellow, blue, purple, pink, aqua, and lime green. The seat has leg holes and seat back that wraps completely around the child. On the front of the seat in raised lettering is the word “Bumbo” with the image of an elephant on top. The bottom of the seat has the following words: “Manufactured by Bumbo South Africa Material: Polyurethane World Patent No. PCT: ZA/1999/00030.” The back of the seat contains the following “WARNING” – “Never use on a raised surface. Never use as a car seat or bath seat. Designed for floor level use only. Never leave your baby unattended as the seat is not designed to be totally restrictive and may not prevent release of your baby in the event of vigorous movement.”
Sold by: Target, Wal-Mart, Sears, Kmart, Toys R Us, Babies R Us, USA Babies and various other toy and children’s stores nationwide, and various online sellers, from August 2003 through October 2007 for about $40.
Manufactured in: South Africa
Remedy: Consumers should never use the infant seat on a table, countertop, chair, or other elevated surface. Consumers can contact Bumbo to obtain new warning label stickers and instructions, free of charge. The new warning label will state: “WARNING – Prevent Falls; Never use on any elevated surface.” Consumers should use the Bumbo seat at ground level, but should never leave a child unattended.
Consumer Contact: Contact Bumbo International at (877) 932-8626 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or visit the firm’s Web site at www.bumbosafety.com

While serving in the USN I used to babysit for the Chief (E-8) of our department while in port. He was the top Air Traffic Controller on the boat and tough as nails.
Long story short - After serving almost two years on the oldest aircraft carrier IN THE WORLD (older than the carrier my Dad was on in WWll) my orders were to Gitmo Cuba....nice, eh? The chief that I used to babysit for was pals with the only man on the planet that could change my orders.

Team,
We have managed to damage well in excess of $100,000 worth of high end dealership cars in the last few weeks. No serious injury’s which is great, but this must stop. In order to minimize our exposure I need your help. We can no longer use dealership new, used, service loaners for errands, lunches, bank runs, dealer trade chase cars, drop off’s for tint / AMS or running service customer cars for pick up or drop off etc…
I have designated a PT Cruiser for these purposes and the keys with a log sheet for check in and check out will be located at the front counter starting this afternoon.
Also, for ALL TRAINING the dealership will rent a normal enterprise car for you (i.e. a non Audi or MB) and we will reimburse the cost for the fuel as well. Use of your personal car or a dealership car is not permitted. In some cases, we may need to pay an extra day of rental because you may need an early start from home and that’s okay, It’s far less costly than having even one expensive car wrecked each year that we own and need to re-sell at some point.
If you have any questions, concerns or comments please direct them to myself or your department manager and thanks for your help.
email from the igher powers here at work..... what I want to know is how over $100K damage in a few weeks to dealership cars has happened without any gossip? I hadn't heard anything about it..... usually stuff gets around fast.... :dunno:

I've got the 17' version of it - got it from Home depot - works great! Very sturdy and pretty versatile. Not the lightest ladder (my old aluminum extension ladder was lighter) but much stronger, and the wide-base feet mean stability, even when at the top. It's very much like the Little Giant, for a lot less.

He's not prone to them. Apparently the virus going around right now includes a "croopy" cough & ear infection.
He's not a whiny kid. When sick he wants to cuddle & sleep. So I have to sit still frm time to time for him to cuddle. Then once he's out....back to work!
He looks pitiful!

in the accord, I'd have to put the back seat down, right? to do that, I'd have to take our daughter's seat out..... which would mean re-installing it, leveling it, etc. lawn mower would require tieing the trunk down partially opened...... potentially scratching something....... don't want that......

So after reading the thread on ladders, I realized that the Gorilla one I've got is the 21' variant - Load Rating 1A - very sturdy - the reason I got that size is because I needed a high and sturdy a-frame ladder to get to the smoke detector on the cathedral ceiling in our family room, plus other stuff. The cost on this one from HD was (list) almost $200, but I had a 20% off coupon (trying to get me to use my credit card after I paid a bunch of stuff off) so it was closer to $150 or so. I looked at the shorter ones, but the load rating and wider feet for the tall a-frame use is what made me spend the few extra bucks. I'm not a small guy, and I'm older - don't wanna have those old bones test out the healing time. :lmao: I even paid someone to clean the gutters out this year. :paranoid:

I drove on sandy dirt roads outside of Tucson for a while before I took it on the streets. I barely fit behind the wheel. That belly measured what they should when you're due when I was only half done! They were convinced I was having twins. This was before ultrasounds were used on a regular basis.

11-30-2007, 12:31 PM
Well a MT is not hard to drive. They are all the same concept. The hard part, as I've discovered, is that each car is different. They have certain play between the clutch and the gas, so are smaller than others. I find the hard part when getting in a MT is finding the spot. Usually when I drive a MT the ride starts out jerky, but after maybe 10-15 gear switches, especially start/stop, it gets smooth. This is coming from a guy who can drive a stick, but I rarely ever do cause have an AT.

I've also driven MT trucks as well. Not pickups, not 18 wheelers, but large box trucks.
When I was moving I drove an old international, manual.
With older large trucks you have to double clutch - i.e. press the clutch, shift into neutral, release the clutch, sync up your rev speed, press clutch then change gear.
I'm thinking I want to get a class A just for fun but my class B is all I need right now anyway, and less expensive I think.

My first MT experience was in an old '70 Ford F-150 my Uncle had...basically you stand in the driver's seat, jump down on the clutch pedal, then as you jump back up to the seat you reach over and change the gear. 50/50 shot you find the right gear.
Which was the opposite of a really fun clutch I drove on an old giant YMCA schoolbus. We would let out the clutch and hit the gas...and wait...wait for it...wait for it...talk amongst ourselves...and then we start to move. GOt it trapped down a deadend neighborhood street one day and had to push it (took six of us) backwards cause it didn't have reverse anymore.

It's been a rough week.... until today he still had bleeding.... his theory is that the stone was in the bottom of the kidney & although broken up, doesn't want to come out. Then Friday a chunk relocated. It blocked the passage & peeing wasn't happening. He drank a gallon of water, took some vicodine & he could pee, but never lost any chunks. (he was at work at the time)
So he hangs upside down in the evenings to make it move in the right direction.

He took it because he couldn't walk from his truck to the shop. (across the street)

If your gene-pool has stones then I'd say drink LOTS of water, no sodas, coffee, tea, green beans, most green veggies, nuts, etc. It's a long list. stuff with "anti-oxidents" are the worse thing for developing stones.
Leaves you pretty much nothing to eat or drink if you stick to the list!!:lmao:

My neighbor is "getting rid" of an '88 or '89 sedan. A headlight won't pop up now (broken wire that he refuses to find) & now the driver's side window is stuck. He knows NOTHING about cars. He wanted my prince to volunteer to hunt down the wire last year & instead we gave him a FREE manual for it. So he could do some stuff himself. (he thinks he can....but doesn't even try)
It's that pinky-gold tone with a dark red interior. AT.
Today he called to ask me to ask my prince to get the window unstuck for him & asked if our daughter's car (the '95) uses the same size tires.
Maybe I should ask him what he wants for it..... our oldest daughter is car-less right now.:dunno: The reason I hesitate is because that would mean my prince would be HAVING to fix it up. He doesn't have the time. I'm sure the window & headlights are a little minor thing..... but it's been neglected since they bought it about 4 years ago.

Today I took one of the DVR boxes in to exchange it. The main one was getting way too moody (exactly what I told them). It had decided you could only watch what you recorded sometimes. The other night when trying to watch "Atlantis" it let us see about 30 seconds & went black. We'd also recorded it in the bedroom...so we watched it in there. A couple of days later tried it again in the familyroom & it worked. Then last night we were busy during NCIS, so watched it recorded. About half way through it went black. I let it rest for a few minutes, then we were able to continue watching it.
Ain't life fun???
So now I'm going to have to call them again because anything past 6pm is still "to be announced". The programming is supposed to take 45 minutes or so.:furious: I'm not putting in all our shows if this one isn't working either!!
I think this is about DVR box 5 or 6 now! In two & a half years! They're fanned & vented & dusted & vacuumed. No excuses to "get so moody"!!

we actually don't have enough tools to do it or time really.... so my coworker's husband has been doing alot of jobs like this ever since he lost his other job, so we hired him to do it. it's not too bad price wise at all either. we'd probably have spent almost as much just buying the tools to do it all. (unless we just stuck with a hand saw. :lmao: ) the french door we're sticking in the opening is almost the same cost as the labor for the entire wall, electrical, door installation, etc.
we're planning on doing the floor ourselves though. it's an armstrong fake wood floor that we got for dirt cheap at home depot a few months back. that's what started this whole desire to put a wall up in the basement.

Drinking lots of water is the most important thing. All year round. No so tough in the Summer, but harder when you're freezing!!
I don't have them in my gene-pool!! This is yet another wonderful legacy his mom left him!!

We don't have many choices here with TV. Basically it's cable or AT&T (dish) & they're worse!! I don't have many issues with Comcast.... they DO have crappy DVR boxes though. We keep wearing them out or something. Normally they die in warm weather, so I think they overheat. (No AC) We do have the shelf/table vented & with fans inside.
When my prince checked the box he said it's just not coming on. I guess tonight it's no big deal..there's nothing on anyway. Plus we watched all our recordings. So we could put in a movie. He's got some homework, so he'll do that & I'll do this.:D
Dinner was good. I made a beef roast. I prefer pork, but thought I'd be different. Tomorrow I'll make frejitas with the leftovers.
He's getting nervous about his eye surgery next Thursday. Cataracts sure make it hard to see!! He'll be happy when it's done. He wants a reading lense in that eye. Then no more contacts!!!

The cable guy came about 10:45. Left in time for me to get the kid:thmsup:
The new box is reprogramming successfully so far. He was really nice. Seemed to know his stuff according to what I've been exposed to with electronics. Liked the cat. Was curious about the snake. Wanted to meet the dogs, but they just barked. I could've made them settle down...but he's a stranger & they were doing their job!
He tested everything to make sure it works & we don't have the house speakers working, which probably has nothing to do with the box. My prince will check them out later. He may have unplugged something when messing with it all last night. The cable guy was willing to find the problem, but I declined. So he left me his cell phone number in case we don't figure it out.
OK, maybe he was TOO nice. But it was still refreshing. He wasn't flirty nice. Just nice.
So hopefully we'll be able to use the DVR again!!
I like cable....at least then when it malfunctions there's someone else to blame!! All we watch is HD channels except SciFi... it's just digital. It seems each week they add more & more HD!! In this area cable has the most by far... granted I don't even look at most. There's about 20 different sports channels in HD. They divide it up by the hundreds. All the 400 & 500s sports, 600's are Spanish, 700s main broadcast, 800s movies, 900s music, etc.

Sarris candy isn't everywhere... I hadn't heard of them either until Anysia sent me some. It's very good stuff.
My prince's eye surgery went well. It ended up interesting though... they decided to have fire drills, which meant the nurses kept leaving. So the surgeon ended up doing most of their job on the pre-op stuff. LOL! That was funny.
He told them if they were to let me in as soon as he came out because I bring his heart rate down & relax him better than anything they could do. So they did. He was release a few minutes later.
The other thing that happened while I was waiting was a peep into the future.
An older man came in holding his hand gingerly. (this area USED to be the Urgent Care, hasn't been for years & there isn't an Emergency room there at all anymore) He was asked if he could be helped. He held up his hand. He had cut off his finger (probably a saw) had duct taped it together, then duct taped a plastic baggie around his whole hand. Which was nearly filled with blood & drove himself in. They called a code...about 20 personel were there in a split second. They had him all wrapped up & on a gurney before the EMTs came in about 5 minutes later.
I heard the conversation between him & an EMT as they were wheeling him out:
"Sir, can you tell me what your pain level is from 1-10?"
"You, know duct tape is handy stuff. I didn't make any mess in my truck...."
"Sir, you haven't answered my question. What is your pain level from 1-10?"
"It doesn't hurt at all."
"OK, sir, next time call 911....don't try to drive yourself!"
"Have you called your wife?"
"No, she's a teacher & I didn't want to bother her. School will be out in 10 more minutes...if she gets a ride, then I won't have to leave my truck here!"

If our clouds clear enough we plan to watch the lunar eclipse tonight. Anyone else plan to?
Here, it's supposed to start at 6 something & be full between 7-8. That means it may be too early for the rest of you, huh?

man, do't you hate that you don't have pen and paper handy when you need it?
while driving today to GA, i heard this song from the late 90's.... i had completely forgotten about it, but i remember that they used to play it on the radio all time....
hoping that i remember it before it gets lost in my mind once again; gone and forgotten.
