My girlfriend has the 2006 LX Sedan and I'm wanting to get her a Subwoofer and amp. I don't want to use a Box in the trunk as she's particular about the space she needs in the trunk. Has anyone used the fold down center piece in the rear seat and mounted a sub in that hole? If so are there any pics? I guess I will use the rear speaker outputs and install a line converter as she wants to keep the factory head unit w/ cd changer in place. We listen to mostly Hip/hop so big bass is a must! But i don't want to spend a huge amount of $$. Also, I don't think there's alot of highs in the factory radio as it is and would also love some tweeter installation options.
Thanks for any input!

You wouldn't really be able to fit much in the arm rest if you are looking for big bass. You can copy what I did if you have some fabrication skills.

no it wont work, and you can always get a small sealed box with a grill on it. then you can load the trunk up with stuff and the cone is protected. make the box the width of the trunk so the depth isn't much then there is still pleanty of trunk space

That looks like a very professional job! Nice work. How long did it take you?
Greg, how do you bolt the sub enclosure to the trunk? Is the mdf base bolted down to something?

Actually I ran screws through the inside sides to some of the sheet metal structure that stood off from everything else witht he first design. With the second one I re-did I just set it in there. It its so tight that it has never moved, and I'm not the most calm driver, though I am thinking about putting some velcro on the back just in case.
Well I'm more concerned with it vibrating at high volume and low frequency. Say you have a powerful sub there that can go to as low as 20hz, if the enclosure is not firmly secured to the body you will lose alot. Even the basslink jumps around if not secured well.
Been thinking about this and, below the carpet in the trunk there is this foam tray. I can remove the tray and create some sort of legs to the mdf base you made and secure it to the metal part of the trunk just below the foam tray. Now I haven't looked, but can I make any holes there or will I be hitting any gas tank or something? :D

I'm contemplating doing this. Is that a 10" or a 12"?

You can bolt straight through the body a that point but you will be going to the underside of the car doing it. I actually did it with the amp rack I made for the other side of the trunk before I removed it to build a different one. Just make sure to seal the holes up very well to prevent rust and water getting in the trunk.

Mine is a 12". I have built one for a 10" as well. It's more dependent on what airspace the sub is designed to work in than anything else.
