apdyer 10-20-2007, 11:23 AM I know something along these lines has been posted previously, but I couldn't find it. I was just wondering if anybody knew the speed/rpm's where the 07 V6 engine is being the most efficient on fuel. Thanks!
By the way, I have an 07 and I like the 08's. Does that make me weird and not able to post on this forum anymore? I feel like it's the same as liking both Son Volt and Wilco.

I think we're in the minority. It seems like a lot of the 8th gen threads you either have to love it or hate it otherwise you're not part of the discussion. Most of it seems to boil down to exterior styling too.

:lmao: of course you can still post on this board, people will grow to love them with a few mods, like making the rear of the coup look a little better:paranoid:
i like the 08 coups, and when they come out with a diesel i am going to wait a few years and get one with a standard  i just love my bros tdi jetta 5mt, and i hope the 8th gen accords diesel is just as fun to drive.
Anzial 10-20-2007, 12:45 PM OP derailed his own thread by posting his observation about 8th gen vs 7th gen. Now instead addressing his question on engine efficiency, everyone will talk about 8th gen and why it rules or ****s. Apdyer, next time try to stay on your own topic instead of going in all directions at the same time, that way you might even get an answer you seek :D
apdyer 10-20-2007, 01:09 PM Actually, I did have three reasons for posting:
1. To see if anybody would know the answer to the V6 engine question.
2. To see how people would react to my comment about liking both the 07's and 08's.
3. To see if anybody on this board happened to know and/or like Son Volt or Wilco.

not everyone on this board is going to like all the same gen's, but we all have one thing in common...we all own/owned accords:thmsup: and we all love honda.

you'll get answer to neither one. Should post a separate thread for each, otherwise it turns into off-topic discussion, like it did here :D Free-for-all ftw :D
apdyer 10-20-2007, 01:38 PM If I was that concerned about it, I would have posted separate threads. I just thought it might spark some interesting conversations.....which is what I thought this was for.

There really is no specific speed/rpm where it is MOST efficient. It varies and is not just a simple matter of keeping it near a certain rpm. You can keep it near 2k rpm all day long, but if you have to keep your foot to the floor to keep your speed up then you're dumping a lot more fuel than you would if you were at like 3.5k rpm in another gear. Though, I don't drive an auto so it's different. I would say that for me, on flat ground, in 6th gear, the optimum speed is around 65-70. I get about 33-34 mpg with cruise control on at those speeds. The rpms hang somewhere just below 3k if I remember correctly. But again, this isn't the optimum speed all of the time. If you really wanted to know, since all of our engines seemt o have their own personalities as far as economy goes (I average 26mpg pretty consistently with relatively spirited 50/50 city/highway driving, but a lot of other 6mt owners average in the low 20's or upper teens), get a scangauge. But, generally, stay in the 60-70mph area and you'll get the best mileage, at least in my experience with this car.

Translating Chunky's no specific speed/rpm into real world numbers: (eventually, he mentions 65-70 (which on my 6M is 2150-2250 rpm).......................)
I have calc'd just over 39 twice at these settings (as the man sez: YMMV)
Discipline and competence should bring it home for you.
...best, ez..

7th gen and then 8th gen are my fav. I am not much of a honda fan (love my accord though) and you couldn't pay me any amount of money to get me to drive anything older than a 7th gen....I just can't stand the older accords, too small and too raggedy (I own a shop and have to work on them, tint them, etc).
flippco 10-20-2007, 07:51 PM I just got back from a trip where the driving was 85% hi-way, I was around 70 mph at 2100 rpm and one tank was 28.3 mpg (using cruise control and limited stops/breaking).
I have used half a tank and am now back to my city/hi-way mix and am expecting more than 26 mpg.

CHUNKY??? Yah, I don't know why I typed all of that, I didn't really say a whole lot in the end did I.
Anyway, for some reason I remember my 70mph being higher than 2250 rpm, though I'm probably remembering things wrong.
On a related note, immediatly after typing that post, I had to make a 350mi (approx) drive from Indy to Madison, WI. Single tank of gas, cruise control set at 72mph the majority of the time. 32.2 mpg when I got out of the car. My economy definately seemed to suffer today the further up from 70 I went.
The best I've ever gotten mileage-wise was just over 38mpg on a drive from Westminster, CO, to an area about 15 miles north of Longmont, CO. 85% highway, 15% city. I must have had a tail-wind.
Succinct 10-21-2007, 09:24 AM As a pro-7th genner and often critic for the exterior styling of the 8th gen sedan, I have no problem with liking both 7 & 8. I definitely don't "hate the 8" - it's more like a mild disappointment (like a concerned parent?) in that I feel it could have been done better. I still very much like the overall car, particularly the interior (just not enuf to want to jettison my 7th gen). I also am head-over heels for the '08 coupe, except for the chunky pedestrian-friendly front end and weird front hood line (but it's done right on the sedan - go figure). Nothing to "throw it out of bed" over, tho. :D
As for most efficient RPM for the V6, I assume you mean it in the context of top gear in the car since most of us aren't running our J30's on test stands. I think it's pretty well-documented and universal that mass-produced cars are in general at their most efficient at a steady-state 35 to 40 mph on flat terrain. Since nobody drives like that in real life, it's kind of a moot point. Just keep the rpms low but without lugging and there ya go. I see a rock-solid-consistent 26 mpg in my everyday driving (about 75% highway), and up to 32 in pure highway with my 2006 AV6 5AT.
princess 10-22-2007, 09:43 AM 1. To see if anybody would know the answer to the V6 engine question. I can't find any numbers....:dunno:
2. To see how people would react to my comment about liking both the 07's and 08's. I'm not fond of the '08's styling, but I don't buy cars for looks anymore....I think they're all pretty homely.:)
3. To see if anybody on this board happened to know and/or like Son Volt or Wilco. I don't have a clue.

stevencrosbie 10-22-2007, 09:52 AM 1. In my TL I found speeds between 65-70 were most efficient on the highway. Anything over 80 really kills mileage in the V6. If you can keep it at 65 (not sure if possible where you are at) you should be able to accomplish 35mpg of solid highway driving pretty easy.
2. My favorite generation would have been the 6th gen, but that tranny is trash in the V6. Therefore I default to the 7th generation. It will be replaced with the 8th gen diesel when that comes out and proves its worth a crap. That could really be my second vehicle if the price isn't in the mid 30s :)
3. Not sure about what you are talking about on this one.
princess 10-22-2007, 10:15 AM Son Volt
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Son Volt is an alternative country group formed by Jay Farrar in 1994 after the breakup of the band Uncle Tupelo. Son Volt is often considered the closest continuance of Uncle Tupelo's alt-country/Americana sound and musical legacy.
Wilco
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Wilco is an American rock band based in Chicago, Illinois. The band was formed in 1994 by the remaining members of alternative country group Uncle Tupelo following singer Jay Farrar's departure from that group. Wilco's lineup has changed frequently, with only singer Jeff Tweedy and bassist John Stirratt remaining from the original incarnation. The other current members are guitarist Nels Cline, multi-instrumentalists Pat Sansone and Mikael Jorgensen, and drummer Glenn Kotche. Wilco has released six studio albums, a live double album, and three collaborations: two with Billy Bragg, and one with The Minus 5.

8th Gen with diesel could be 40+ all day long..........
I think the engine is most efficient in an 06-07 V6 manual transmission Accord when shifting at about 6,500 RPMS. I have found that to be the sweet spot right before engine cut-off.
The V6/manual transmission Accord might be a fuel efficient car but I wouldn't know since I pretty much romp on the accelerator every chance I get. I'm amazed I haven't gotten a speeding ticket in this car yet. I'm also amazed at some of the other cars I have put in my dust from a redlight duel. As a matter of fact, I haven't lost to anyone yet in a redlight challenge.

Nice! Uncle Tupelo is one of the best bands ever because it ended up forming both Son Volt and Wilco, two outstanding bands.
By the way, thanks for comments everybody.
