My Accord has VCM. IM torn on whether I like it or not. Can anyone else feel it engage/disengage? To me, it feels like a slight gearshift....or maybe its really a shift im feeling? I cant tell if its VCM or my mind playing tricks. Maybe someone else feels the same thing?

The VCM in the GM trucks is noticeable. It feels like a hesitation.....

It might be a little annoying...but is a nice feature :)

I don't feel a thing. If it wasn't for the VCM light I would never even notice anything.

I feel it in my uncles 05 Ody. It usually gets worse with time as the motor mounts start to wear, then you will be noticing slight vibrations and lugging noises, nothing earth shattering or even bothersome (to most).

I got a 08 Accord Sedan V6, and I didn't feel a thing on the VCM

........there are those who walk amongst us who may be thinking that the pleasant feeling from VCM - - - - - will be added $$$ at EOM from potentially lower fuel costs (but remember YMMV................)

'08 6M coupe appeals (.............but comes sans VCM) (sigh!) It's hard to please everyone............it would appear.

Great cars.....

It's noticeable...but very subtle. Like what Ben said, the '05 Odys' VCM is pretty noticeable. In highway cruising, you can hear the engine is running at a very low rpm. As soon as you feather the gas pedal, it would get a tad louder then the engine sounds more lively and smoother with all 6 cylinders running. What also contributes to the groaning is the ANC. The ANC puts out a very low groaning sound from the front speakers which can get quite annoying.

jkeith72,
I just bought a V6 Accord sedan a few weeks back, my first Honda. I was actually thinking about taking my car to the dealer to have them do a ride along so they could feel what you are describing. When the "eco" light comes on, if I start backing out of the throttle, I feel for lack of a better term, a lunge or surge. I have tried to watch the tach, but when it surges, I do not see any changes in the rpm. Mine is pretty noticable, and not in a good way. My wife actually noticed it the other day, so you know it's more pronounced than it should be. I still may bring it in just so I can make sure this is normal. One last thing, mine seems to do this mostly at speeds in the 60-70 mph range. Thanks.

What RPM does this correlate to? If it's low enough, it could be the computer sending fuel back into the other 3 or 2 cylinders to make them fire. This usually occurs are lower RPM < 1500(?) to prevent stalling on manual transmission models, but there could be reasons to use it on a VCM car as well. Do you feel it if you're in the same MPH and same RPM but without the ECO light on, like maybe on an uphill stretch?

The RPM in the 60-70 mpg range is probably in the area of 2250-2500. I do not feel it at all when all 6 cylinders are firing and the ECO light is off.
It's strange cause at times when it does it, it almost feels like it's upshifting, but I know it is not, due to the lack in change of RPM's.

I own a 2005 Odyssey and the ANC i not what makes the groan/drone. It is the exhaust system and there is a TSB out for it. THe ANC is suppose to be not noticible. (and on my 05' Ody it is unnoticable)

It shouldn't be that noticeable; or noticeable at all for that matter. When i test drove the '08 V6 it felt VERY smooth.

On my V6, the VCM is so subtle I can't say I feel it at all. The ECO light is my only indication its on.

About a month or so ago, a dog ran into my lane and I hit it, causing some bumper damage. It got fixed by the insurance, but recently I've noticing my engine being a bit strange.

For example, today driving to work I have to go through a fwy overpass. I was cruising around 60 the whole way and gave it more gas to go up the overpass. This is when the car seems to "stall" or lag behind. I gave it more gas, I saw the rev needle go up and I can hear the engine revving, but the car won't go faster. Eventually it'll kick in after like 5 seconds. It's done this on level roads as well. I can't really pinpoint the problem because it doesn't happen all the time.

I'm wondering if the impact from the accident might have done some mechanical damage that was not noticeable to the repair shop. I have an appointment tomorrow with Honda to get it checked...

EDIT: I hope this is not off topic. I posted here because I feel it might be VCM related

VCM is great if one travels alot on the hwy. V6 and 30MPG. And I was not even trying. How can anyone not like that?

But since I do my DD in the city, I would prefer not to have VCM. On my Accord, it's noticeable. That's partly because I "try to get into" VCM on purpose to save gas. I'm not really sure it makes any difference in the city-town. But I'll still take the 10%-15% they say it does. And would much more prefer a (smooth) consistent engine tone and feel.

ECO does not always indicate the VCM is on. ECO just mean the engine is running efficient. And we can run all 6 cylinder efficiently so therefore ECO comes on.

Its very subtle, but I can def feel every little gear change in any car I drive. I guess it comes with knowing your car

no regrets in the 5AT choice here...I did not need, nor want..a second MT car.

wishful thinking, but if a ECU flash option came about to tell VCM to operate in on 6 cylinder mode..well I'd start going to church a bit more often, lol.

I don't feel a thing. Maybe I should try to, but it seems VERY subtle to me.

I feel the vcm kick on/off...its not that bad. I do 90% freeway driving in my accord, my average speed is between 75-80mph w/ some hills.

I noticed the VCM (only slightly) on my 2009 coupe V6 auto, but, after it broke in it seemed even less noticeable. I averaged about 22-23mpg, ironically however I am getting the same mileage with my 2011 V6-6 speed coupe.
