Yes..You can replace all four (or all 6 if you want), keep the stock HU, and your system will sound at least twice as better than before. But, to get the most out of your after-market speakers, make sure you amp them up.

I did this to my Jeep and it does sound better with new speakers and amps. It would sound much better had I installed a better head unit.
Not sure about Honda's but Chrysler radios do not put out a lot of power which won't make speakers sound as good.

Rockford 3Sixty.2 or JL Audio's Cleansweep and aftermarket speakers will be better than stock.

It's a common practice. Go here to find out more and which ones fit your car:

Try to use speakers of the same brand and line.

I too, am considering this. I do not want to add amps. though (just the 4 main speakers).... has anyone done just this and does it really make a difference? Also, I really hate the idea of taking my door panels off ( I'm affraid they may squeak and rattle when I put them back).
thanks.....

I did it and it does indeed improve the sound. The key is to get high efficiency speakers that will produce max sound with the limited output from the stock head unit.
Since then I've added an amp and a sub. Stereo Guru? No, I did a lot of research and paid for installations. I even had the speakers redone by a pro after I installed them......I didn't do a very good job and I admit to it. It's an area I'm not handy in and better off paying those that do it professionally.
Here's a thread I started on it some time back:

Use the search feature, there's scads of information on what you're asking about.

I agree with RTexasF, you need to find some high efficiency speakers. I put a set of Polks in my 06 Accord, and the sound was improved dramatically. However, if you want to REALLY improve your sound with the stock HU, take a look at some Focals. The sound is simply amazing! I put the 690 CA1 6x9s in the rear and the 165 A1 components in the front. (CarToys installed everything, as I didn't have the time or the skills to do the job). Check out the discussion here:

Whatever speakers you choose don't go cheap on the install. I suggest you ditch those plastic adapters and use mdf wood rings. Seal them with some silicon. Trust me, it will make a REALLY BIG difference. And if you'll have someone do it make sure they do it the right way.

Boy do I agree! Unless you are super handy in this area go ahead and pay the price to those that know what they are doing.

JMHO......Ive actually mentioned this several times on this board. Replace your door speakers and dash tweets.........leave your rears as is (they make great midbass drivers)........and an amp and sub.
Whallah........great sound.
