Who hates their front license plates in CA? Well, here's a petition (http://www.petitiononline.com/caplate/petition.html) to abolish the front license plate requirement in CA. Think of the savings. The state would spend half as much on license plates and dealers wouldn't have to worry about putting brackets on our front bumpers.

Can we petition to end time changes as well. Both are useless.

never saw the point of the front plates. pa didn't have them, wi does have them.

although i see a small point to their existence in nyc~it may help buffer your car a teeny bit from the idiots trying to cram cars into parallel parking spots where they don't fit. :lmao:

I never saw a reason. NM doesn't have front plates either, but I all of my stuff is registered out of TX.

I don't run a front plate on the truck. NM can't pull me over for not having a TX plate...and I'll risk it...I carry the plate in the truck just in case :)

Unfortunatly, CO required front plates...so I had it on the TL. You could see where the bracket rubbed the paint on the bumper...I hated that bracket.

So I have two for the Abolishment of CA! :)

I don't think any of these online petitions have ever worked.

And don't you just love this reason for why they should be abolished?

Second, a front license plate restricts the performance of passenger vehicles.

:lmao: Like they care.

I think they're still required here in CA because of all the traffic cameras they've been putting up over the years. If the camera misses the rear plate, there's still the front plate.

I know that overseas they have then and doesnt seem to deminsh performance. They, police, like them because there are more cameras than police on the autobahns, motorways, autostasse (pick your country). The camera gets your plate and your face. Its cool if you want a ticket with your speed and your face driving the car. Buddy of mine got one while he was getting a BJ. Thing about being in the Air Force is that the tickets go through the legal office to your chain of command. You can imagine the meeting he had to go to afterwards. Then they made him brief us all about speeding. LOL!!

I know they won't get rid of them. They probably make more money off of red light cameras than what they spend on the license plates. But I did get a nice little discussion going (even if it did turn into abolishing CA). Be nice to us Californians. We're gonna go chill with Hawaii if the rest of you are mean to us. I feel bad for front plate states, that plate really detracts from most cars and their design from how the factory / creator intended.

good ol' indiana... no care for emissions tests or front plates

Without CA there'd be no Disneyland. Without Disneyland there'd be no escape. Without an escape there'd be no sanity. Without sanity......there'd be ME!:D I mean, no me.

Front plates are here to stay. The cameras will make it so. They use them at bridges, lights, parking lots...... where ever they want. It has helped catch a bad guy or two. It has helped a few fines get paid.

Going without means a fix-it ticket & fine & a trip to get it signed off. I know from experience. :paranoid:

While we're griping about the front plates...... why do we have to pay 50 bucks EVERY YEAR extra for personalized one???? It should be a one time fee, then the same as the rest.

we've always had front plates here in WI, never seemed like a big deal to me. it's part of life. to me, since every car here(nearly every car anyways) has one, it's just like the "H" in the grill to me. it's just there.........

Not sure if it's already been stated, but aside from other purposes the front plate serves, CA as well as NJ will never get rid of the front plate. Why? Speed cameras, red light cameras....they bring in the state extra revenue. They could care less about the extra cost of the plate of how bad it messes up the front of your car :thumbsdow

Reading probably should have been done, but being singled out for not doing it IS kinda mean...you know you've been guilty of it before. So let's just take a breather...there's better things to do on Veteran's Day weekend than get mad on the internet

And holy batman look at all those smilies

Lived in Cali all my life. NEVER had a front plate on any of my cars. I've only been given a single warning in all my 21 years of driving. Do they really even enforce front plate laws??

Where at in Cali? Just the other day I had a discussion with someone about tickets and he was telling me how one time the cop walked around his vehicle and wrote him up for no front plate among other things. Seems to me that cops don't care most of the time about certain things (same way with tinting front windows), but some days they can be dicks and enforce the law down to the letter.

if you're just driving along normally and following traffic rules, cops arent really going to stop you just for the front plate.

if you park on public streets/lots, parking enforcement will likely nab you. its easy money for the city.

messfeeder
05-23-2008, 08:54 AM
That's true. But the city I live in runs traffic stings constantly now. They will pull people over for stupid things like that. Especially now that they have installed cameras at all of the lights!

Got to wear them on the front in NY also.....probably for the same reason too....so those pictures come out nice and identifiable.

Orange County. I've been pulled over for other things and they never mentioned anything about the front plate, but only once going through a sobriety check point did the LEO warn me about the front plate but didn't issue a ticket. I keep hearing other people have problems with this. Maybe this is the only thing in life I've been lucky at?? ;-(

We got a "fix-it" ticket for it many many years ago. Made a bracket so we didn't have to drill any holes, got it checked & took it off again. :)

Ya, that's the real silly part about this. Most people probably do this. it's a joke to enforce in the first place. Just an additional revenue stream I guess, albeit a small one probably...

I've found a way to get out of having to remove my illegal tinting (got a doctors reccomendation stating that my skin was ultra sensitive to light, and it held up in court), and now I have to find a way around this issue. This is going to be tough, but it can be done.

If you're not running a front plate, don't ever go to LAX to pick someone up, DAMHIK. The airport cops will flag you as Al Queda and you'll get a ticket. I guess they like to make sure the monitoring cameras can see your personalized front plate "BinLaden" when you pull into the terminal. I hate running a front plate, but it's not worth the hassle of being pulled over.
