I received this from Gordy and thought others would benefit.

I got the Alpine XM radio piece last night. The only difference in the Alpine piece is the Reciever. The Apline receiver lets you piggyback a CD/MP3 changer to the XM piece and $300 ceaper than the Honda piece. The Honda wiring harness will work as well. The only thing that has to be changed is the power plug for the FM modulator. I made my own from radio shack parts. Other than that the XM install kit works 100%.

Ok parts needed are this:

1. Alpine XMA-T200RF Satellite Radio Package - can be had at Crutchfield (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-xPHlNiQwf3d/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?i=500XMAT200). Right now it is on sale for $150.

2. Honda P/N 08B15-SDA100 - This is the wiring harness and mounting bracket for the XM receiver and Alpine display piece. It also includes all of the wire ties and odd and end bolts needed for the install ($78)

3. Honda P/N 08A15-1E1-100 - Honda Antenna. I wanted to use the Honda Antenna for factory look purposes only. ($65)

4. Honda P/N 08B06-SDA-100 (Optional)- This is ONLY needed if you add the XM radio piece to an Accord that does NOT already have a cassette or MP3 Player. In my case I have ordered the MP3 player (be here today) and do not need it. ($50)

I purchased all parts from hparts.com. Everything has been delivered in the time stated and correctly. They are also the cheapest I have found.

I will be taking pics of the installation from begining to end and hopefully get them to wardsweb for posting. The only thing that had to be custom made was a molex for the FM modulator piece to work with the factory Honda harness. The parts can be found at Radio Shack for about $4

All and all, the factory XM radio package costs $600. All parts and components were purchased for $300 shipped.

The upside to this is the Alpine piece gives you the option of adding a CD/MP3 changer. The factory honda does not. I am pretty sure this can be done via the factory console mouting kit as well. As easy as this sounds it is......MORE TO COME

If anyone has specific questions regarding this, please let me know.

Regards

Very nice job.

Where is that FM Modulator mounted? Is it in the trunk?
It's hard to tell from the pic.
Can we see a pic of the finished center console?

I am very interested in your detailed instructions, because I will probably be doing this on my wife's new accord (which we hope to get shortly).

Your installation job looks very professional.

Bean,

Thanks for the compliments. As a matter of fact, I used to be a professional installer for 5 years. The Honda kits make it very easy to make it look professional. You have to be careful with Honda plastics. They scratch very easlily. Tthat is why there is tabe around the console edges.

The FM modulator is mounted behind the glove box. The XM receiver is mounted behind the rear passenger quarter panel and the inner wall of the trunk.

Innner wall of trunk above wheel hump. Tthe Honda XM kit comes with a template to mark the 3 holes you have to drill.

The XM receiver is mounted behind the inner trunk wall in between the rear passenger quarter panel. You use the Honda supplied M6 bolts to bolt the XM receiver to the inner wall

Can you tell how you installed the factor roof antenna? How did you route the wires? Did they come with the antenna? How did you determine where to place it on the roof?

I used the factory antenna. At that time, is was a standard XM antenna. Since Honda did not offer XM as standard equipment, it is not then body color antenna on the roof. It just lays on the rear deck and is attached with velcro. It is placed next to the brake light.

I have thought about switching to the factory roof antenna but can not bring myself to drill holes in the roof.

GW

Any idea where I could find the factory roof antenna or how difficult it would be to route and mount?

Thanks!
