Living here in the Cleveland area....winters are tough on cars with all the salt they use on the roadways. Having experienced corrosion on the alloy rims on my '93 accord, is there anything that can be applied to the rims (besides wax) to help protect them from the harsh winter weather. Today I saw an '07 and the rims had what appeared to be a coating of a "honey" colored substance. Any ideas???

I never knew this was even an issue. I drove my '02 for 5 years and put 105k miles on it and never had any issues with corrosion on the rims.

Don't know what that "honey" color thing is, but if you're looking for durable protection try Collinite's Super Double Coat # 476 or their Liquid Insulator Wax #845. There's also the Klasse twins.
Another option would be to get some steel wheels for the winter months.

wax is the best thing to coat them with, but the other thing is to have them washed off regularly. The biggest corrosion issue with wheels is in the bead area, and by having a regular wash with an undercarriage wash as part of it helps to get the extra crud out of the wheel areas.

The best way to keep them from getting corroded is no wheel weights and removing wheels, cleaning and protecting around center caps. The problem is usually around edges where salt can get under clear coat. Once a wheel weight is installed the clear can be compromised. Same goes for contact area around center caps
I have also noticed certain wheel cleaners can speed up the clear failure also.

Best thing to do is get a set of steelies with snow tires. Your nice wheels can be stored for the winter.

I have one RIM already had been comprised by corrosion. It is on the side of the wheel. I don't know how it get it, but I wasn't the first owner. So, I guess the last owner wasn't playing attention to the RIM.
I want to know what is a good product to prevent further growth of the corrosion. I will clean them with water more often and wash the inner flender. I hate wet snow and carwash is getting very expensive in my area.
