Took my gal to the horsepistol this morning for a partial knee replacement so I'm sweating things out. We're only 10 minutes away so I decided to come back home rather than spend many hours there pacing and going slowly mad.
At least here I can clean house and get a few things done to occupy the time. She should be back home by Friday so I'll be chief cook & bottle washer for a while along with helping her move about and getting her to PT and back.
As soon as they call you'll be able to hear my car wail on it's way to the 6500 RPM shift points.......get outa my way!

I wish your wife a good and steady recovery!
PT will be the hardest, hopefully they'll send her home with some good stuff to ease the pain. :)

Hope everything goes well! I agree...waiting in a hospital is about the worse feeling ever....and it doesn't matter where or what you are waiting for.
Good luck this week taking up the full load around the house. I'm sure she greatly appreciates it and once she's fully recovered, her knee will be as good as new!

The ones I've known to have it done have been THRILLED afterward!
I hope her recovery is as speedy as I've heard from others!
Maybe you'll be able to keep up with her for a while.....:paranoid:
Tell her your family here is thinking about her & wishing her well soon.:)

Thanks all. Since this is a partial replacement recovery should be reasonably rapid but this waiting helplessly really bites the big one.
Her daughter in law and our neighbor had complete replacements on both knees so this should be easier to deal with comparitively speaking. Yeah, easy for me to say, eh?

Rick - hope all went well. My wife is looking at a possible knee replacement in a few years - she keeps hoping to extend the period - and she's interested in seeing how others make out as they have the procedure - so let us know how it went!

I'm curious to know how it all goes too. for somewhat selfish reasons I guess though.... :thumbsdow
I had surgery done on one of my knees 6 or 7 years ago and was told that I already have arthritis in there. and that I should expect to potentially need knee replacement by the time I'm 40ish years old....... so......
curious to know the reality of it. :paranoid:

My grandma couldn't get into a car without excruciating pain in her 50's. She's now 61 and danced with my grandpa -- painlessly -- at their surprise 50th wedding anniversary party.
it's truly life-changing.

OK, just got back from the hospital. All went well, the surgeon said all went as expected and there were no complications or unexpected happenings.
She's in her room now recovering, a little sicky from the gas passer (anethesia) but otherwise sharp and alert.
The idiot that I gave my mobile phone # to wrote it down wrong TWICE even though she read it back to me correctly:furious: Oh well, shit happens. Before I left I made 100% positive sure (read the screen, read the charts) that the nurse in charge, staff, and hospital records had the correct phone numbers.
Therapy will depend on how well she does over the next few days. Her surgeon told me that he handles every case on an individual basis rather than prescribing a set type of therapy. I find this refreshing, not at all the "they all need to do this and this" approach. With a whimsical grin on my face I asked him "How soon will she be able to kick my ass?" He answered, "With her attitude, a lot sooner than you think." I like this guy a lot.
ANDY & STEVEL-
I'll continue to post her progress here since you both have interest in the procedure. Mind you this is a partial, not a complete replacement. Also the two people I mentioned previously that had complete artificial knees replaced (both knees) are without pain and more comfortable than they have been in the five years prior to the operations.
Also keep in mind that it only gets worse until the procedure is done......slowly but surely.
I'm fortunate that I only have brain damage......my knees are good.
Thank you one and all for the good wishes.

Sorry to hear about the phone mix up! That's been one of my fears. I think that why my prince stayed for my surgery last Spring. He was afraid they'd forget to call or something.....

Took her first steps today with the aid of a walker. Got sick & tired of the bedpan and decided she was gonna hoof it to the potty herself by God!! I told her to cool her jets then went and got some help. They assisted her and she done good!
When I go back this evening hopefully the PT tech will have come by and worked with her some more. No word on release date yet. I've got to scare up a walker pretty quickly though.

Jason,
I'm REAL glad she's making me crazy by being tough! The PT fella came by and waltzed her around a bit and it wore her plumb out. I think the bedpan will win the next few rounds until she gets her strength back. She's one tough lady and ornery as hell so it won't take long to whup the pan.
Oh, they finished the street and all is s m o o t h at last.

Got my sweety home today about 1PM. She's motivating pretty well considering the 7 inch scar with staples in it and titanium under that.
Amazing how quickly she's recovering. There is some pain but minimal according to her.

Eight days since the procedure and went for the follow up today. They removed the staples (OUCH!) and took X-Rays.
All is well, no more wrapping the leg with all the crap that had to go on there previously. She has knee movement now and no Physical Therapy required!!!! YAAAYYYY:banana::thmsup::nuts::biggrin::yes:
Another follow up in three weeks and then again a year later. She's been working hard at it and her progress is astonishing. She'll have that foot in my backside before you know it.
I'm proud of my gal.

On Sunday she moved to the cane from the walker.
Last night she decided I had been in her kitchen long enough and decided to make cole slaw and fried chicken. I was there to assist along with a tall tripod seat that she could sit/lean on when needed. It wore her out but she was determined to do it.
Recovery still going very well but she tires easily and, very unlike her, requires a nappy during the day. All is progressing ahead of schedule.

So wonderful to hear that she's progressing nicely!!
I've done kitchen duties on a tall stool too. It's weird the things you do when you're told you can't!!:D My instructions at the time were "stay off your feet". I did. I sat.
Healing can be such a slow & frustrating process even when ahead of schedule.
The cane will serve much better to keep you inline!!:lmao:
