Has anyone replaced the stock 205/60R16 tires with 225/55R16? Did it improve the handling? Any interference issues? Not happy with the stock tires and exploring my options. Thanks in advance.

View Full Version : 7th Gen - 225/55R16 to replace 205/60R16? Speaker Guy 11-11-2007, 08:25 AM Has anyone replaced the stock 205/60R16 tires with 225/55R16? Did it improve the handling? Handling is night and day compared to the stock turdanzas. No issues whatsoever, the diameter is actually closer to the stock than 215/55R16s would be. No significant overspray either, though there is a bit more. 03AZAccord 11-11-2007, 10:42 AM Anyone have experience with Goodyear Eagle Response Edge? I see several Accords with them. However a mom on my girls soccer team had them and said they vibrated at 55-60 MPH and they sent her on a goose chase with brakes struts etc. Noticed yesterday she had Michelins back on the car. I have not had a chance to talk to her as to why. Any feedback on the Goodyears? Also want to look at the Dunlop Signature as they have stock size in a V rating. Thoughts? mdnky 11-11-2007, 11:58 AM the diameter is actually closer to the stock than 215/55R16s would be. How do you figure this? A 205/60/15 is a 24.7" diameter. A 215/55/16 is a 25.3" diameter. A 225/55/16 is a 25.7" diameter. A 225/50/16 would be closest, at a 24.9" diameter. I definitely wouldn't recommend the 225/55/16 in this case. For the money, why not a set of Pilot Exalto AS (225/50/16)? They can be had in that size in either an H or V speed rating. Goodyear has been known in the past for having balancing issues. Lately it seems they've had less of an issue with this, especially on their car tires. But every now and then an issue pops up. Usually it's a bad tire or two, which is easily fixed. The only issue I know of with the Response Edge (besides the usual - "what a weird tread design" - statement) is the cost. But then again most people would complain even if they were dirt cheap, as it still means spending hard-earned moeny. BenjiBoy650 11-11-2007, 02:11 PM How do you figure this? Ouch... :lmao: Peniole 11-12-2007, 09:01 AM Yes it does help:lmao: Thanks Ben  here's the calculation...courtesy of www.1010tires.com gaviota 03-02-2008, 06:48 PM Yes it does help:lmao: Thanks Ben  here's the calculation...courtesy of www.1010tires.com I'm considering 235/50R16, according to www.1010tires.com there's only a 1.68% difference in diameter, so it should be ok. But are they too wide for the stock rims of a 2006 Accord EX-L? namegoeshere 03-02-2008, 10:35 PM For that size, you're better off with a wheel that's at least 7" in width IMO. Peniole 03-03-2008, 07:46 AM I agree, 235 on a 6.5" wide rim is pushing it. |
