View Full Version : Major road rage!!

I'm minding my own business driving down a major road here today and some guy in a pickup truck gets right on my tail. Not 4 feet away not 2 feet away, I mean right on my tail. I could practically hear his engine running.

Seeing that there was another lane he could pass in I figured he would go around, which he did, but not without cutting right in front of me and flicking ME off in the process :furious:. I didn't tap my brakes, make any lewd gestures or do anything out of the ordinary to warrant this. At this point, I'm thinking what the heck did I do.:dunno: So, not one to back down from the one finger salute, I returned the gesture with a bit more force :furious::furious: at which point the guy seems to go absolutely ballistic :bawling: in the cab of his truck. He keeps flicking me off but then he starts pounding his fist.

This is getting bizarre .

But get this, we're on a major road (during lunch hour) and we're a 1/2 mile before a major freeway and this guy stops his truck IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD stopping all traffic heading eastbound toward the freeway. How does he stop all the traffic on a two lane road you ask? Because he gets out and stands in the other lane!

I can honestly say that I was really, truly scared for my life. I really thought he was going to shoot me or something. He's in front of me at this point and he's in the same lane that I'm in, the far right lane of a four lane road (two heading east, two heading west with no driveways or streets to turn into). There wasn't any place for me to go if he wanted to shoot me. I'm about 100 feet behind him at this point and I practically get rear ended by a girl in a Mustang. I can see him getting something out of the backseat and he holds it up in the air ... I can't tell what it is but it is definitely some kind of weapon judging by the way he's holding it.

He's standing in the middle of the road yelling at me while he's holding this weapon in his hand. Seeing that what he's holding in his hand doesn't look exactly like a gun I felt some relief but still...wtf? He then comes walking towards my car. I thought he was going to start hitting my car so I cross over into the other lane and unfortunately now I can't see where he's at. At this point the traffic starts honking their horn for this a-hole to move because he is blocking all the traffic.

So he grudgingly crawls into his truck and starts driving down the road. He positions himself so he can get beside me and starts jawing again. I'm really pi**ed at this point and gladly return the insults. Realizing that this is going nowhere fast I just keep repeating over and over and over and over "your 50 years old... GROW UP A-HOLE!!!" like a machine gun. This goes on for probably a 1/4 mile :lmao::lmao::lmao::nuts:. I think he might have been less than 50 but I think this struck a chord with him because he starts licking his chops and blinking like a horse being broken.

There isn't much crime where I live so when I called 911 and they sounded genuinely concerned, especially considering his use of a weapon, and said they are going to try to track him down based off the description of the truck. Good luck.

I've never seen or dealt with road rage like this so it was a real surprise. The strange part was that he was a clean cut, hair combed nicely, well dressed dude ... just nuts I guess.

You should have settled it from the beginning by returning his great American gesture with a peace sign. :D It always works! (After they look at you like this: :paranoid:)

That might of help avoid a lot of this. You could have always got his plate number and call the cops on him.

Thanks for the advice with the peace sign guys   . I should try that next time. Where I live, trucks are everywhere and people drive them differently than when I lived out east. People drive their truck like it's some kind of sports car here. And you eventually get used to all the soccor moms and soccer dads riding your butt in their Suburbans, Silverados etc. But when they do that, and cut you off and then flick you off in the process it's hard not to "return the bird":lmao::lmao:

I would say the piece sign or just a nice smile and wave...it usually ticks them off more, but they don't go off the deep end.

Soon as he pulled out the weapon. He would have been a hood ornament.

I would have let him come towards my truck. I would have shot him with the loaded .45 cal in my truck (that is if it was a roadtrip. I don't carry it everyday as I have to work on base and am not allowed.)

I don't take threats to my life easy.....

Good on you though for avoiding a very bad situation and being unharmed....

Texas FTMFW. I wish I could have a gun rack in my TL-S...

All I have is a collapsible baton.

Makes me glad that guns aren't allowed in Canada like that...since I've seen a number of idiots on the road who all seemed to want to "end" me. I remember around 2 years ago I had one guy who kept flipping me off, pulling in front (less than 1 foot away) then slamming on his brakes, and pulling alongside me, basically flipping off and yelling "you're dead" and trying to shove me into the guardrail or an adjacent lane (was really throwing his car at me too).

Reason in that case...He came flying up at me honking to move out of his way since I was going just slightly over the speed limit on the freeway (whereas he was going a lot over)....but get this, the reason I was doing that speed was because they guy in front of me was doing the same, so if I went faster I'd drive through him. The other lanes were actually going slower than our lane was, so there was no way he could, or even I could, get around the slow driver in front of me.

Still I don't think anything can top Princess' story from a while back involving one of her relatives and a transport truck...I still hate those things because if they decide to swipe you or whatever...then its all over.

I had a similar situation when I was driving through Montreal some french a hole passed me and flicked me off with his kid in the car...great example ha. two lane hwy..so he got right beside a truck and block me so I couldn't pass him. When things heat up ....I get a little road rage myself so I passed him on the grass( i know its crazy) but its hard to control my temper. I pulled over and see if he wanted to talk about it but he drove away.

This is a problem with owning an accord, or any common car for that matter, Someone in a car like yours probably cut him off 10 miles back and he thought it was you. People are crazy. I just dont understand it. I suggest painting huge blue flames on your car so it doesnt look like anyone elses.

I just smile and wave:wave: I try not to get angry anymore, it is not worth it. One question though... were you in the left lane or the right lane? Vehicles are supposed to STAY in the right lane EXCEPT TO PASS. If you are in the left lane, then you are the one driving illegally, since he cannot legally pass you on the right. This does not justify his actions, but simple things like abiding by the law can prevent this kind of thing. Stay right, use signals, don't tailgate, come to a complete stop at stop signs/lights, and so on, and you will have less road rage toward you. Trust me, it works! I used to drive like an a$$ hole, and I would get flipped off on a daily basis. I have since made drastic changes in my driving habits (biggest one being keeping right on multi lane roads) and the number of angry people I see is much lower. You will get people that will be pissed off by anything and everything, those are the ones you just smile and wave to, knowing that you are that much better at life than them is all you need!

+1 on once he breaks out a weapon, and advanced toward me, he would have been a hood ornament! you have plenty of witnesses (that appearantly are not going anywhere, since he blocked the road) that can verify that he blocked traffic, brandished a weapon, and began toward you in a life threatening manner. Just make sure you hurt him enough where he cannot get up, or he'll be even more inclined to use his weapon on you!

This should be a lesson to all what can happen when you return a street gesture to someone that's a crazoid.
If they're driving like that in the first place you should put it together that "this one is a few bubbles off of plumb" and refrain. Stay clear, get Lic #, call cops. Easy to do? Hell no but it might save a life.......yours or the next guy down the road.

Some people just don't like anything imported. He could have just been a jerk to you because he's driving his American truck and you're in a little Japanese car. I know that sounds ridiculous, but people are ridiculous!

At least the dispatcher was nice to you. I had a drunk driver try to run me off the road, then get out of his car and throw a bottle at my windshield. The police didn't do shit. Now, after getting what I like to call a "revenue" ticket, I hate cops.

...sadly, there are just a few crazies out there. and they reproduce too. "Let's be careful out there": it's not just a line from 'Hill Street Blues' any more........
