View Full Version : New Hids on my 08
jnguyen 11-18-2007, 08:46 PM Finally got around to putting HIDS on the coupe. I do miss how easy it was to swap out the headlights on a 98 coupe. Anyways..here are the pics enjoy...

VTECaddict 11-18-2007, 08:54 PM post shots of the beam against a flat wall. about 20 feet away. :)
turBeau 11-18-2007, 09:13 PM I'm digging the 2nd picture. You didn't waste much time modding already, did you? Makes a huge difference in the appearence on the 8th gen's. What heat range did you go with? Looks to be 8k or so.
jnguyen 11-18-2007, 09:24 PM I'll try to get the lights against a flat wall tomorrow. I went with 6000k because I didn't want anything too blue. The color's nice but the install was a pain since there wasn't much room to work with. I ended up using the double sided sticky pad that came with the kit and just mounted the ballast against the bumper since that was the only flat surface I can find. I'll probably zip tie it somewhere in a couple of days but I'll see how well that adhesive tape holds up.
I was hoping to be one of the R&D vehicles at eibach for a lowering kit but I was beat by a day by another accord. My next mod is going to be rims, hopefully some work euroline xr's or vsxx.
VTECaddict 11-18-2007, 10:22 PM are you in socal?
i dont think the double sided tape will hold that well...
jnguyen 11-18-2007, 10:38 PM I didn't think so at first either but I did give it a strong tug and it stayed put. I'll give it a week or so and see how it holds up before I start to think of other things.
I'm in West covina about 20-30 mins out from downtown LA.
Darth Do'Urden 11-18-2007, 10:53 PM Any chance of a DIY guide for this? I'd LOVE to get HIDs on mine.... Never messed with 'em before, though, so I'm a total n00b in this area.

Sounds like a plan. It's not as bad as you think, I only had a problem taking out the bulbs because I was trying to do it while the connector was still attached. After I figured everything out the passenger side only took me 5 mins tops from start to finish.
It's plug and play so all you really have to do is hook up the wires from the bulb to the wires from ballast and hook the ballast up to your cars original connect for the bulb.
I got my kit locally and the brand is O-Nex. For a picture of what the kit looks like go Here (http://www.newtiburon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48458&page=1&highlight=halo) the kit was $150 and comes with a 1 year warranty.
As far as color and brightness goes, I decided on 6000k which is a step above oem (4300k) and has a tint of blue to it. Anything above that is for looks imo since you're stepping into blue and purple. I do plan on getting HID's for my fogs as well so maybe I'll be the first 08 to have that running also..anyways I'll try to get the guide up and if you have any questions feel free to ask
Cheers,
John

It would be much appreciate jnguyen !
Ive been holding off on my coupe to see what the cut off line from our projectors would be with HIDs and also to see how someone did the 'PnP plug n play' procedure on our 8th gen coupes
I'm thinking of going with http://www.hidconcept.com/Kits-mtec-6000k.html
so yeah, would love a tutorial and a night shot twenty feet away from a white wall or garage if poss
one last question...
how did you prevent them from flashing on and off as you lock/unlock your car?.... im sure its a fuse or something, but thats one of the major hurdles I have in my mind... I don't want to be cutting the hid's off and on like that
zro26t 11-19-2007, 04:05 AM This would have been THE FIRST mod had I pulled the trigger on getting the '08 coupe. Still considering the idea, but it's just not justified for me. Too bad about the R&D attempt. How does that work. You just show up at the company's door, and inquire?
Ignition_key 11-19-2007, 07:28 AM Would the HIDS off an ACURA work on the Accords?
jnguyen 11-19-2007, 08:22 AM Would the HIDS off an ACURA work on the Accords?
I'm not tech savy in any way so I would only assume they will if they're h11's. I have class today but I'll try to snap some night shots and I'll put together a little step by step for you all.
KunalPatel87 11-19-2007, 04:50 PM Nice job man. Do you get a "cut-off" with those projectors?
Bouncnb 11-19-2007, 05:47 PM Does putting these on your car void the warranty?
krazyfiend 11-19-2007, 06:09 PM Does putting these on your car void the warranty?
it's definitely nothing the service dept. would be happy about, not sure if it voids it or not (but from what others have made it out to sound like, it does)
flipside, less power consumption...prob better move than all those who used to shove very high wattage 'xenon like' bulbs into stock harnesses in terms of safety
to me, PnP plug and play are just as easy to un-install as to install...
...i know , everyone says buy a acura if u want HID...i just wish it was an *option* from honda , especially having projectors in the 08 coupe now...i believe the altima has the option, just like the maxima's
jnguyen 11-19-2007, 06:56 PM I don't know if it voids the warranty or not but I'd assume it doesn't and they're not at all that hard to pull out once you know what you're doing.
Updated pics..

VTECaddict 11-19-2007, 09:37 PM very nice for halogen projectors. honda/stanley halogen projectors are usually pretty good at handling HID. :)
krazyfiend 11-20-2007, 03:02 AM that's a nice cut off line/point ! thanks for the pics!

WolfpackBill 11-20-2007, 03:34 AM Damn you!! Now you want me to trade my 06 in. Lol. Those projectors are pretty nice especially since they were originally designed for halogens.
And if anyone can figure out hoe to disable the headlights flsashing, please let me know because my 06 Dorse that too and I don't to prematurely fry my ballasts for my retro.

Your '06 flashes low beams with the headlight switch off? Hmm... Didn't someone post about having a TL that flashes the headlights (HIDs) when the alarm goes off? Wasn't it answered that it did not hurt the ballast? I know I read that on here before.
KunalPatel87 11-20-2007, 07:22 AM Did you have to aim the beams at all?
This truely is a must mod for any current and future 8th gen Accord Coupe owners. Seems very easy to do (and undo, if needed).

Nope just plugged them in and I was ready to go. They are easy to undo and do after the first instal and you figure out where everything needs to go. The key is to pull the wires up and expose them around the engine, makes this a whole lot easier. But yea after the first install I can easily undo them in about 10 mins tops.
jackpop 11-20-2007, 10:01 PM The 08 EX-L models have an auto switch, so they don't do that flash thing anymore.
I went to check one out the other day just to test drive, i wish i could get one, too expensive right now, i need to finish paying off my car, But the V6 sounded different it had alot more of a potent tone, meaning it sounded furious like it wants you to just smash the pedal,
I wish the 7th gen had one, I don't like the flash either. drives me nutts.
Nice job with the HID, it looks Awesome!
Passat774 11-21-2007, 07:51 AM Great pictures, no need for a retro fit if they look that good!!
But why did the not add projectors to the sedan :(
my car doesn't blink the low beams when I press the switch.
So no issues with hids.

Thats a good question turbovs, but you never really know if something was originally built wrong, or if something is faulty and does go bad, their's always that chance...

If anything does go wrong just pop the kit out and install everything back to stock.

Yea, thats what i have in mind, and will do, but god forbid you break down and need to get the car towed into dealer, when will you have the chance?
I kno, i kno, tow it to house first but i personally think thats a waste of money and if thats what your plans are, better off taking it to a outside machanic and pay them for labor.parts cuz it might be the same as another tow fee, atleast in my area.
Jeez that was a long sentence.

I guess if you're in that situation just change the bulbs while you're waiting for the tow truck?
I put my ballast inside the engine bay so if I do need to change them out I can easily unhook the power connector from the car to the the ballast and just slide that back on a stock bulb, granted I have a stock bulb with me.

Sounds like something to put in the glove box with the owners manual.

I know that. What I meant is that when you leave them on at night, you hit the lock button, and the headlight turns off then turn back on...blinking. If you have an EX, go try it out. Turn your headlights on, close the door and hit the lock button and you'll see what I mean. What I really want it to do is to leave the headlights on without blinking when I press the lock button on the remote.

this is on 'Auto' mode, correct ? on mine so far, if I don't have it on Auto mode and shut them off and on manually with the selector...then it's fine..
i'm way used to manual light switches..its a sacrifice i can make for hid
Darth Do'Urden 11-21-2007, 02:32 PM Is it really a big deal for the lights to flash and stay on a few seconds? (I'm new to HIDs...)
VTECaddict 11-21-2007, 03:55 PM its bad for the ballast and bulb. the ballasts shoot ~23,000 volts to the bulb each time it turns on in order to melt the salts and ignite the gas.
hmm yeah I can't say I use the auto mode.
Guess I am fine for hids then lol.
peazs 11-26-2007, 03:30 PM it'll only void the warranty if that is the cause of the problem. i wouldn't expect it to void anything though.

what you don't carry extra bulbs for your car in the glove box?
i have at least one of every bulb, and some for other cars. you never know if you or someone else will need them, pulse if it's a chick that needs a bulb changed then you get a nice opportunity to get to know her, and get her number while your changing her bulb:naughty:

H11 I believe for low's in the projector housings ... I could be mistaken, maybe someone else can chime in....

krazyfiend 12-05-2007, 09:43 AM Do HID's come on the coupe?
nope, no option either...projectors do come standard and the cut-off line is top notch so retrofitting PnP HID kits seems to be a snap
peazs 12-05-2007, 12:42 PM ^ retrofitting? you mean just installing the P&P HID kits right? no need to change the projectors again

yeah, sorry..i noticed that on this forum that 'retro-fitting' for u guys means throwing projectors into clear or existing housings...
i should have said 're-based PnP kits' ...my bad
SmokedV6 12-05-2007, 09:03 PM Does anyone know what type of projector bulbs is in the 08 Accord coupe? Is it 9006?

Yes, they are 9006. I put Sylvania Silverstar Ultras on mine a few days ago  They look really similiar to the pictures posted here. Cheaper and easier to do! And you can keep the lights on Auto.
peazs 12-05-2007, 11:32 PM didn't someone say H11? or can they be both H11 and 9006?
SmokedV6 12-05-2007, 11:39 PM Well, for the sedan it's 9006. Don't know about the coupe. I would presume its the same.
krazyfiend 12-06-2007, 03:41 AM Well, for the sedan it's 9006. Don't know about the coupe. I would presume its the same.
the coupe has projectors for the low beams (but low beams only), where the OP placed his HID pnp kit... and it's a coupe
the sedan, to my understanding, does not have projectors for low or hi beam and uses 9006 for low's
coupe uses H11 for low's inside the projectors according to my owners manual and other posts I've followed.
GigaS27 12-06-2007, 04:29 AM I just recieved my HID's, i will install this weekend. Only thing is i have the sedan, please no flaming :naughty:

GigaS27 12-09-2007, 04:13 PM OK guys, some good news, then some bad, and some more good news? HAHA
Anyways i got some questions. First of all for sedan, i got the HID kit 9006 8k kit, and i dont have pictures, so sorry, but why? I did bring my cam with me to take pictures of install, but really, there is not much to it. First of all to get the low beam bulbs, what a b****!!! I hate this. Follow your manually which explains where the 2 clips are, and then you literally have to fold down the wheel well which is a pain, after that you really can't see what your doing behind there but unhook the connecter and then unscrew the bulb.
Now i did run into 2 problems with HID's. First was the 9006 connecter. It was stated in another post already in the 7th gen so helped me save some time here, but you slightly have to bend the pins on the connector from the HID connector to make the connector fit/snap onto the Honda stock connecter. That was problem one, problem 2 was the bulb did not want to fit into the housing, what i had to do was take the O-Ring off the stock headlight and replace the rubber O-Ring on the HID bulb, then boom fit like a glove.
Next part was to find locations for the ballast, what a b**** again, i placed my driver side in the battery box :D and the other side behind the plastics under the fender, i'll post pictures tomorrow, but i'm sure with more time you will find a better location.
Anyways, it looks awesome and not blinding at all, there is some glares a little high which i'll post some pictures later in the week to show but no problems.
My questions are...I dont think this is, but i thought i'd ask, do bulbs have to break in? The reason i ask, i think i actually have to adjust my headlights up higher, because it seems to not brighten anything up ahead, and it could just be me but it seems like its not pointing out far enough. Now all a sudden, later today it started to rain (2nd night with HID’s installed, and wow everything looked perfect, it seemed to aluminates alot better and it actually seemed it was pointing correctly. Now the only reason i think it may appeared this way was maybe the light was reflecting off the water from the rain on the housing? I don’t know, but before it rained tonight, it looked like it needed adjustment. Only thing I can do is wait until it doesn’t ran again at night and see.
What are your inputs?!
Also anyone has any clues to where the headlight aligment screws are? Insdie the wheel also!?! grrrr
Aviography 12-09-2007, 04:41 PM Hmmm, HID burn-in? I've read it might took a few hours for the colour to stablize but it should have nothing to do with how much light, just the colour temperature changing a bit.
Secondly, the previous post before yours says 8th Gen low beam is H-11 bulb? but you say it's 9006? (not that it bothers my any)
GigaS27 12-09-2007, 05:10 PM Secondly, the previous post before yours says 8th Gen low beam is H-11 bulb? but you say it's 9006? (not that it bothers my any)
Thats why i labeled i was a sedan, so they say, the coupes have a H11 for low as apposed to the sedan low is 9006. It could be that the sedans don't use a projector so the bulbs could be different.
Aviography 12-09-2007, 05:15 PM Ah, OK, didn't realize there was a difference, not sure why though, the 3rd Gen Integras had 9006 bulbs behind the projector low beams and 9007 on the projector high beams.

for one, the illumination will not be as good as the stock halogen lights. it might look decent in certain situations but overall it wont. 8000k is a way too high temp for true performance. you shouldve gotten 4000k-5000k MAX. OEM bulbs on cars that come stock with HID's range from 4000k-43000k.
the higher temps attempt to imitate the color that is produced from OEM projector based lights. ie the color flicker which is caused by the cutoff line.
the best option is obviously a retrofit but that cost a pretty penny.

I was going to go with local dealer, but he stated 150 for kit, so i figured it was a cheap kit like they have on ebay anyways ($77), so i went with the kit from ebay. Not the best kit i'd probably say, but it works :D
And comes with a year warranty anyways...

Nice, good luck with it.
Here guys, i took some pics for you guys to check out.
I actually did some testing today, i lines up with my girls 04 accord and her lights are just a slight bit higher then what the HID point, so i will have to adjust the headlights a bit, but my lights produce way more light
As for the glare, you will see in the pictures what it looks like, but i tested alot of angels looking at my girl as she sat in car and she stated lights to not bother her at all, so no1 should get pissed at me

xowktiger 01-28-2008, 10:52 PM how do you get the anti theft code before installation?
Bouncnb 01-29-2008, 01:25 AM I purchased my HID kit last night. I went with a 5000k kit. Seeing as that is what more cars are using now-a-days. ie. Lexus, BMW, Audi & MB. I got mine from Xenondepot. Can't wait for it to come in.
Now I just need to find someone with a garage.

I orderd the same kit as you.
5000k , its very blue IMO, my right bulb flickers NON stop, and its a very bright flash of green.. its like a strobe it does that none stop..
Its not a bad kit, but there are better..
as for the new honda accord, when do you think honda will up its game and actually have HIDs and an option, or even have it standard on all EX-L models of the accord..
that would be nice..
there soo cheap.. adding hids will not put acura out of there game, its just a light.. :dunno:
ncelk 01-29-2008, 03:01 AM Did you check with xenondepot and find out what the issue is with the bulb flickering? Just curious, as I also ordered the same kit, but have not installed it yet........
Has anyone used the HID kit Xetronic Digital At www.xtralights.com? They claim it is the new era in HID kits because it is digital. Pretty expensive though.

I reconsidered and emailed xenondepot and got the 4300k kit as opposed to the 5000k. I think will be more satisfactorly to me. They had no problem in swapping out the kit.
Jackpop, you should either call them or email them about your problem. Maybe you have a bad ballast. Talk with Steve.
ncelk 01-29-2008, 10:19 AM I guess I should have clarified, I have the same kit, but got the 4300 k as well.
But so far, they have been great to deal with. I just want to be prepared in case I have any issues with the install or if this becomes a problem on mine.
This is for the wife's MDX, and she will have a fit if it gives her any issues.
