Well, I know I saw a post on here before about this but I couldn't do a forum search because I can't remember the secret password about the keeper or something. I got frustrated and gave up.

Anyway, my question is simple. I have an '08exl and I want...need remote start. I got caught up buying it and forgot to get remote start - I had it on my 94 and as soon as the first frost hit i forgot how much i used it.

Would I be smarter to take it back to the dealer and get the OEM version or take it to a local schmo and have an aftermarket product put in? From my research it looks like you need to have have an additional remote on your keychain besides the actual key so I can't really see the advantage of taking it to the dealer since I'm sure it will be much more expensive.

Does anyone know what price range i should be looking at? I put my last one in myself and it was a horrible experience and it won't be happening again!!!

Thanks a lot!

Below is the thread you're looking for. As to the price, they vary... aftermarket two-way (the fob gives you visual and audible verification the car is on) remote starter (autostart) will not set you back more than $150 for the part. In addition a bypass (I installed nifty IDATALINK- no tach wire or hood switch required:banana:) is needed- another $50. Labour should not run more than $150.

i think i pretty much got jipped from my dealership. i paid 450 for the PURSUIT remote start and alarm system installation included. It was not even OEM! but then again, I heard with the OEM like jag mentioned in the earlier thread, you will need to restart the car after you remote start it. that is kinda wack
i think it should run you about 300 with installation included for an average remote start system if you go outside dealership
