Anyone going out of town/state for Thanksgiving? Hope everyone has a safe trip!

I'll be leaving for Houston tomorrow morning for a family reunion/thanksgiving dinner at my sister's home in Kingwood. I hope to beat some of the holiday traffic by leaving a little early. Hopefully not everyone has the same idea. I'll spend tomorrow night and part of the day Tuesday in New Orleans and then drive on into Houston Tuesday night. I'll be returning home Sunday night.

Incase I don't have internet access in Houston, Happy Thanksgiving!

Have a great trip... :) my grand parents live in Kingwood, and I have always liked it there.

We will not be traveling this year. :( although we should be going to Kingwood for Christmas.

I already started the trip!

I woke at 4am Friday morning, drove to the airport and flew to Houston.

Went to dinner with family.

Then on Saturday I drove to Austin with a friend. Now I'm at my Dad's house in Belton Texas and I'll be driving back to Houston on Tuesday morning. My Mom is going to drive in from New Orleans. She and I are going to drive to Austin and then go Home on Sunday after thanks giving in Houston.

I'm going full circle! :lmao: Lots of road time this year!

Side note - I'm having fun with my step mother's 2007 Passat. It's a slick car! Too bad its a VW.

Tyler, give me a call on my cell if you'd like to meet up for a little while in Houston. Same goes for anyone else who will be in the New Orleans/Houston area next week.

I'll see what I can do. I'm somewhat trying to take full advantage of this time with my grandmother right now during my time in Houston before she starts the nasty part of her breast cancer recovery; the chemo. Everyone is positive as is she, but I've seen what it can do to you and she's already so weak that I just don't know what's gonna happen. She and I are very close. :/

Western Mass down to southern CT. Easy one hour drive but leaving law school and going back to see the fam is like a whole other world. Can't wait!

Ready to hit the road here in a little while after I load the car. The Accord has a long haul ahead of it.
I'll have internet access in New Orleans, so I will report back with the fuel economy.

I'm just heading back to southern IL from St. Louis. I'll be leaving for that tonight and coming back here on Friday.

Happy Thanksgiving and safe travel to everyone.

Nope. They're coming here. :D

I don't even know how many I'm having to feed & house this year. :dunno: Oh well, a near 30 lb turkey & a huge ham should be enough to feed whatever numbers I end up with!

I have to go help with kindergarteners today & tomorrow, kids get out early on Wednesday, which will be when I mow the front lawn & makes pies. That night our son will arrive.... but most shouldn't be here until Thursday.

Happy Thanksgiving Y'all!!!

Do you have a double oven? If so, would (2) 15# turkeys be better? Once they get over 15-20# does the taste not get worse? Do you brine the turkey? Very good for moistness & flavor (which is lacking in most supermarket birds).

I'm traveling as far as the store to pick up our (precooked) meal for T-Day. My gal is still mending and I would be a better table dancer (EWWW!) than a chef!

I dunno.....I might like seeing rick belly dance!!:D

Yes, I have a double oven.... but I've been buying huge birds for nearly 30 years & so far the only time I had a dry one was when I decided to use one of those baking bags.

I season, no stuffing inside, & bake to temp with a foil tent. Simple. Easy as pie & the beeper tells me when it's done! Meanwhile there's the ham to cook, & all the other stuff to put together. I start the day before out of habit. With the double oven, I could do it in one VERY busy day.

I'm thinking about doing a chocolate roll. My prince will do the pumpkin roll & pumpkin pie. I'll do an apple pie & a cream pie of some sort. One or both of us will do some breads. My carbs rise just listing it all out!! The usual is both turkey & ham here, plus salmon. I thought about crab cakes.... but opted not to. :)

I made it in safely without incident. The drive was just over 11 hours and I averaged 36 mpg. Had a nice trip, very little traffic and good weather.

Well I just made it in from Austin back to Houston. Gonna be here for the holiday then thinking of driving back to Austin this weekend to visit some more people. The 8hr drive back to NOLA from Austin is much more of a pain than the 5hr drive from Houston... hmm. :dunno:

I'm driving the C240 while I'm in Houston, I've missed it! ;-)

It looks like our son is coming in on Wednesday! :D

The "feast" with Jarrison's class went well. I wonder what they'll be doing tomorrow....:dunno: Instead of 20 kids, they'll have 40. Both the AM & PM kids will be there.

Well I just made it in from Austin back to Houston. >>>

I'm just about to leave for Houston from LaPlace. I'll have to detour as I-10 is apparently shut down somewhere between Baton Rouge and Lafayette. There was an explosion of some sort. I spent the day yesterday driving through Metairie and Kenner for the most part. Stopped in Royal Honda and bought a sunroof visor for the car. I did take a run to Bucktown and the Pontchatrain lakefront as well. Didn't even bother going downtown.

I'll upload the pictures when I get back to Orlando.

My mother is taking HWY 90. It's an hour and a half longer but the drive is nice from what JustBlink778 told me. What are you taking?:dunno:

Hope everyone had a nice thanksgiving! I just got back in to New Orleans from Houston. I decided to spend another day in Texas. The detour was a bear! I probably should've used US-90 and bypassed I-10 alltogether. I-10 will be shut down until Decemeber 4th. What may have usually been a four hour trip turned into a seven hour drive. The weather was awful as well.

2300 miles later I am finally back home. I've uploaded several various pics from the trip:

Late 70s/very early 80s Toyota Corona. I followed this car for about 100 miles:

Royal Honda has undergone a complete renovation since the last time I've been here:

The 96 Accord as it sits with 217,000 miles. The owner commutes from New Orleans to Baton Rouge for school. He said the car is running great and has never given him any problems in the last two years.

I drove through Bucktown near the Lakefront to see how much rebuilding had been done.

This was the house in Bucktown that I grew up in.

I took US-90 instead of the Detour. So glad I did!

I took 90, to 316 back to 10. - Thanks to my little Magellan Maestro!

Your old Accord is lookin rough Alex! The tails are mis matched and the front looks awful! - What's the story?!

Urg. Royal Honda. :furious:

Side note - The opened 10 back up today!

The car got rear-ended and the body shop used OEM parts. They did call me to get the paint code, however. I'm not quite sure what happened to one of the exhaust tips. :dunno:

As for the front end, he rear-ended a BMW in Baton Rouge.
