So....Who here on DA went shopping today and stood in lines?
I DID! Against all odds, I went and loaded the dad's truck with loot for cheap!
The BX (Aafes, thank goodness I get this benefit being the military)
I was in line at 0345 for a store open at 0500. I purchased TWO Sharp Aqius 42in LCD TVs (1080i) there. Each of them were on sale for $779 with a regular price of $1700. My parents wanted to upgrade the TV in their bedroom and the other TV is becoming a gift (I just bought one for myself 8 months ago).
Costco.com has the Garmin Nuvi 650 for $299. I bought two of them :) One is a gift my mom is getting for my dad and the other is mine. I couldn't pass that deal up.
I also got a few odds and ends that were around the store. Free HP All in One printer, a small Panasonic Digital Camera, and other junk that was cheap and easy gifts. I tell ya what....today was an awesome shopping day and worth it.
What did y'all get?

Stood in line but at the grocery store.....stamps, refill prescription for my still in pain gal, coffee, etc. Not too crowded, more like a typical Friday.
God I hate going to the grocery store......Navy firefighing school was more pleasurable.

Woke up at 3:30 this morning to go to Kohls to get a KitchenAid 5 qt mixer for $229 and a Bissell vacuum cleaner for $79. Then went to Best Buy for House, M.D. Seasons 1, 2 AND 3 for $15 each. Then off to Sears to get a LED worklight for $14, a pair of mechanics gloves for $10, Craftsman wet/dry vac for $15, and a magnetic tray for $8 (filler to get $50 so I could use my $10 off coupon). After that, went to Office Depot for an APC battery backup for $20, 2 Logitech webcams for $9 after rebate, a DVD player for my parents' restaurant for $15 after rebate, and a no name GPS (not a bad unit at all!) for $99 after rebate. Got home around 7am and slept pretty much the rest of the day.:banana::banana::banana:

Went to Target and got a Magellan Maestro 3100 GPS unit. It's so great. It was setup within 3 minutes after getting the darn packaging open. Regularly $249, today it was $149.
Got my aunt a iPod/CD Player Dock thing. Like $50 today reg. $70
Got my Mom a new digi cam. It's a Kodak something. :lmao: Like 6.2mp w 3X opt zoom. Pretty good unit for just $99. It will keep her from bothering me for my camera all the time and making ME responsible for HER pictures. ~annoying~
I'm pleased. I have a few more gifts to get but I'm gonna do the rest of my shopping online. I'm also going to use my Visa Extras points from my Debit card to score some free gifts.

Saved 1800 bucks on the two tvs...not bad.

So I returned the POS GPS I bought from office depot and bought 2 tomtom one GPS from best buy for $120 each for both myself and my parents. I bought one to replace the magellan that I have currently. I was surprised there were leftovers from yesterday and still cost the same as the doorbuster price. It makes you think what is the point to wait in line early in the morning.

There are only a few items on Black Fridays that may be worth lining up early for. LCD/plasma tv's and a few GPS units come to mind. Everything else will usually be on sale later on for the same price or very close to it.... especially if purchased online.

Should've bought another LCD TV, but didn't have time to really shop (wife had to work on Friday, and was too cold & busy to bring 2 of 3 young babies out to shop). Only bought a TomTom ONE (3rd ed) GPS. Saved $100. That's my early Christmas gift. It's already paying off. POI search is nice.

I can't wait for my Garmin....that thing is gonna be awesome.
I looked at all of the cheaper GPS units...but decided to stay away when I saw their screen size. I also will not buy a unit w/o NavteQ data....

I can't stand black friday. The only "OK" deals are the door busters, but i am not willing to waste hours standing "freezing" in the long lines to save a few bucks.
I shop online and use www.mysimon.com and www.froogle.com to compare prices, and they prices are usually cheaper than any large sale.

The boy and I went to Circuit City to try and score a deal on a wii game he wanted (Mario Galaxy)
We decided to sleep and and try our luck regardless.
Got there 1/2 past noon, all copies of Mario Galaxy were sold off the shelves, he said to a cleark "excuse me, do you have any copies of Mario Galaxy left" they clerk turned around and had two in his hand that he "just found, I thought we were all sold out" he told us.
We took one, the kid next to us took the other. Headed for the door, 30 minutes later we were back in our pj's at home..
FYI the game was on sale for $35 regularly priced at $59.

No FOOT shopping on Friday.... but we internet shopped. And again Saturday & again Sunday & again today.....:D
We're nearly done with Xmas presents. I need to think of something for my prince's birthday!! I've got about 2 weeks.:paranoid:
He talked about going back to having a salt water tank for fishes. We have a perfect 55 gallon one. The snakes are in it. So he'd need to make a habitat for them. I suggested a thick wood frame with polycarbonate sides as a stand for the fish tank. Then they're together. He liked the idea. So eventually that's probably what will happen.
Meanwhile..... I need birthday gift ideas!!!! He's so spoiled.... he has no needs.... no real wants that I can can think of..... *sigh*

Me? at a gas station?????:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:
Actually he doesn't go through tons. He fills up about every 3.5 weeks. He can squeeze a month of work days if we don't use it on the weekends at all.
Hopefully I'll come up with something....but I probably won't today. I'm too brain dead today!:paranoid:

Which ones are the CF? We have 3 different sizes around here. One works in the phones & something else & they're teeny tiny. Then there's the normal sized ones in 2 cameras. Then an older, bigger one...
I don't know one from the other.... I do know that after years of sandisk he's now gone to kingston. Their 1G is faster for pix than sandisk's 1G. He has some 2Gs also.
Luckily for me, the little cards are usually with whatever they go in. (extras) that way I can use the stuff & remain ignorant!:D:thmsup:

The compact flash (CF) cards are about twice as thick as the SD cards and I think longer and wider and has a bunch of holes in one end where it plugs into the camera.

CF (Compact Flash) card is the top one. SD (Secure Digital)/MMC cards are on the bottom.

I haven't had a camera that uses CF cards yet though.
Pretty much all of the Canon digital SLRs use them.
Smaller pocket sized cameras are more likely to use SD. MMC is pretty much obsolete.

I love canon cameras I had the SD550 and now i have the SD850IS. They both use SD cards. I would love a Canon SLR camera but I probably wouldn't use it much because they are too large to carry around for average use.
I did just buy a Canon HG10 digital camcorder though. I should have it next week.

Well I have both an SLR and a pocket sized digicam (Casio exilim).
The exilim stays in the car and is used for when I see things I want to take a pic of, and the canon SLR goes when I am going somewhere almost exclusively to take photos...
You can have both. No law says you have to own one camera only. :lmao:

yeah, but I did have a 35mm SLR a few years ago, but didn't use it much so I sold it.
I figured it would be the same if I got one again.

OK, got it! We used CF in the old one, SD in the newer one & Transflash (the tiny ones) in the phones & a few other things. We have a little card looking thing that we put the transflash in to read it. Then it goes where the others do in the front of the computer or printer or reader.
I think I decided to let him do the salt water tank as his birthday present. He'll have lots to do first. He found a local place that also got more into fish by scuba diving first. They decided they got too old to travel the world diving & opened a store. They're retired marine biologists.
Paul is doing well for Crystle's birthday (same day as my prince). He bought her an actual Ronnie Lott jersey, tickets to a 9er game & got a babysitter. She doesn't know it yet though! Not romantic, but she'll love it!! I sure hope he can keep the secret! He wants to drop hints & she's very good at figuring them out. Like her dad! Drives me nuts!:D

Princess, there are also at least 3 different types of SD cards. There are standard, Mini and Micro sizes. Now they think they are also rated different by the speeds.
I read somewhere that the large camera companies (including Sony) are in agreement to make a new type of SD card that is compatible with across the board.
