I'm looking for a little mutt to give my mom. She travels lots less than she used to & I think a pup type companion would be a good thing right now.:)

I can't adopt one from any of the rescue places if I'm honest & tell them that it's not for myself. They want to check out the new owner.

My mom has cats.... gets visited by kids of all ages.....is kind to critters. In fact, most of her cats have been adopted because they were wild ones in her neighborhood that she started feeding & tamed & named.

I don't care if it's a puppy.... a young adult (less than 3 years) would be fine. I'd rather spend my funds on the things to spoil it, like a carrier, a portable house, toys, blanket, dorky sweaters, etc. So just a little mutt that's free or nearly free would be nice.

The preferences are male, small (15 lb. or less), housebroken if an adult, friendly. If it's not "fixed" I'll be having that done too.

I've looked at chihuahua mixes, lapso-apso mixes, wiener mixes, papillion mixes, etc. Not many are advertised here since people don't want to pay for an ad to give something away.

Tomorrow I'll go to the local pound to see if there's any little guys in there. They usually mostly have pit bulls. I don't think that's a good idea.

So if anyone local has a little mutt that needs a home, let me know!!

I live in a Hispanic neighborhood and chihuahuas are the dog of choice. They are very yappy and some on them are really mean.

Since I prefer Labs and Goldens they look like large rats!

One of my friends has a lapso-apso and that is a very nice dog.

I think it depends on how chihuahuas are raised. We have one. He was raised with a huge dog companion....(100 pounder) & he plays & acts like a big dog. Well, he used to. Now that he's gettin' old & has one eye, he's a bit grumpier. Still not yappy though.:D

Our daughter's is a mixed mutt with some sort of terrier & lapso apso. She's really ugly. They have a male version of her at the pound that I'll go look at today. She's sweet.... but chews & destroys!

I'm hunting a good little one for an old couple. I want it small so it can be a take-along dog. Small so my mom can lift it easily.

Jacob has the chihuahua that my daughter bought for Nicholas. He didn't want him, but I bet he won't give him up.... the ol' power thing. I could probably dog-nap her & it would take days for anyone to notice!! She's about a 4 pounder last I knew.

If I got her, then my mom could make some occasional pennies by selling puppies. She's not papered, but she's full bred & no matter what little dogs are mixed with they seem to sell.:) At least here.

I saw a chi-wienie going for 200.:paranoid:

We've nearly always had a big dog & a small one. There's benefits to both. Now we have a small & a medium.

For myself, I like fluffy dogs. Even our chihuahua is a long coat. :D The others look like rats to me too! But there's less maintenance!!

I do not know about Northern California shelters but the Orange County shelter is about 3 miles from your favorite place. They always have chihuahuas and they do not screen adoptors.

My last three dogs came from there. It is on the City Drive at the Garden Grove freeway.

I went to the pound & called many shelters.... no luck.

I tried papers & all the online things I could. No luck.

Yesterday I took another look at Craigslist. I found some chihuahua pups. Local! I've emailed & they sent me a pix. There's taco bell brown girl. Well, she's a bit redder than the tacobell dog. I'm trying to set up a meeting.

She's not free, but she's a unpapered fullbred & going for half of what the mutts are. So if she's healthy & seems like she's enjoy being spoiled.... I may have found a dog!

Of course, this means that I'll have a 4th dog here until I can either get my mom to drive here or we go to NV!! Oh joy! :D

All the Chihuahuas around my area are yappy as well. They think they're so tough, it's funny. It's like they have no idea how tiny they are relative to most of the other dogs in the area (a Boxer, a Pit Bull/Terrier, a Doberman, a Chow Chow, a Husky, etc.). Whenever I take my dog for a walk, there's a particular house we usually walk past that has like 5 of them and if they're outside, "yap yap yap yap yap."

Our daughter's is a mixed mutt with some sort of terrier & lapso apso. She's really ugly.

Can't be any uglier than this dog.

How about a Yorkshire Terrier or an Australian Terrier? They're small and not as yappy as Chihuahuas. Plus, they don't look like rats either.

:lmao::lmao::lmao:No, even Rella isn't THAT ugly!!!!

She has the face of an Ewok, the neck of a hyena, the fur of a scrub brush....the body of a wiener dog, no tail, no legs....but climbs up on things. She destroys everything!

Not that I have an attitude......really.

I've been around both kinds of chihuahuas.... the yappy kind & ones that act like most other dogs. I don't like the yappy ones either. True, they have no clue that they're only 5 lb. That's been funny. Limmie's bossing around a 105 lb. choc. lab resulted in the loss of his eye.

Whatever I find her has to be something I'm willing to live with in case her husband won't accept it.

I'd love to find a yorkie mix.... but they're even more pricey! MY next one might be a yorkie though. We'll see. I've only known one of them. It was OK, but had no really personality. I'm sure most are better than he is!

I wish I could find a cheap LONG coat chihuahua mix. I like hair. They look a lot less like a rat!!

We've always had Yorkshire Terriers. they don't smell, don't shed, don't get yappy, leave a very small "mess", easy to train, and very affectionate. 7# would be a big dog for this. The do live a long time. Last one went on for 18+ years. Good dog, overall. Good luck!!

That "small mess" is one of the best parts about little dogs!! I've had to pick up all sizes of landmines!:paranoid:

I'd prefer a dog that lives a long time. The dozen years from our lab mix was heartbreaking. I wasn't ready to lose him.

We've already had our Limmie for as long as the lab mix lived. He's still going strong. A bit of arthritis sometimes. He just runs on 3 legs when it's bothering him. It funny to see.... He switches legs mid run sometimes. So far he just gets a little stiff.... not painful.:)

Well, there's ad for a Yorkie in the paper. She's only 11 weeks old.... & free is you tell the person how much you'd spoil her.

I emailed.

There's a catch. The pup is in Cameroon.... Africa. That would be quite a shipping cost!!!!:paranoid:

I figured as much. Who would GIVE away a pup worth anywhere from 900-6000 dollars??

No mention of amount for "shipping". It was in the San Jose paper. For some reason things from there aren't good for me...:dunno:

That "small mess" is one of the best parts about little dogs!! I've had to pick up all sizes of landmines!:paranoid:

Feed the dog a high-quality food (not Alpo) and you shouldn't have to deal with landmines. Poor-quality foods offer poorer nutrition. Your dog thus has to eat more to get the nutrition s/he needs. Eating more = landmines.

I started out feeding my dog (Pit Bull/Lab mix) Iams (not too bad with landmines) when she was a pup, then switched to Pro Plan (no landmines) after about a year, and then to Hills Science Diet (no landmines) because it was slightly healthier.

We've already had our Limmie for as long as the lab mix lived. He's still going strong. A bit of arthritis sometimes. He just runs on 3 legs when it's bothering him. It funny to see.... He switches legs mid run sometimes. So far he just gets a little stiff.... not painful.:)

My dog was diagnosed with arthritis/hip dysplasia when she was about 3 years old. It got so bad that if I'd take her for a walk down the block, later at night she'd be limping or she'd have a hard time getting up. But ever since I put her on Joint Care 2 (http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=14068&Nty=1&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntk=All&N=2001&Ntt=arthritis&Np=1), she's had no problems. She can easily walk 2 blocks and not be in pain at all. I was surprised how a little tab could do so much. And I haven't had to use Rymadil in over a year.

All our animals are Science Diet critters. We kept the cat on kitten food because when she turned a year & went on the adult stuff she started shedding more. She's not much of a shedder usually. One of the pluses to a ragdoll. If I brushed her, we probably would deal with it at all. She hates to be brushed & since she's never matted, I let her have her way.

The dogs also eat puppy food. Lemmie didn't handle the change to the adult food after Bitzer was a year old. So we went back to it.

None of them will pig out so I just put out the whole day supply out & they nibble. The lands mines are still pretty predicable. Same places. Same times of day. The only variable is when I mow. They seem to all want to be the first to make a new pile!:lmao:

We have an appt. at 4:30 tomorrow to see the tan pup. I found a couple more to call if this one doesn't work. I want a playful pup....not a timid one. One that has a family with other critter....cats, kids.... all of ours get along & my mom has cats. If her cats don't like the dog it's out of my control. I want the dog to be OK with cats.

I may keep the pup for a couple of weeks to make sure it has more than one round of shots. We gave Lemmie shots every 2 weeks until he was 20 weeks to make sure they took! The previous pup died because they hadn't taken.

We're leaving in about an hour to meet her. If I get her, then we'll stop at PetsMart & Petco for all her stuff....

If her personality fits, I'll name her Missy. I think my mom can remember that. Then if I end up keeping her because mom's hubby has some sort of problem with it. I'll call her Minnie.

I'm running out of Disney names!!!:lmao: The boys have used up several on pets they've had!

If I ever get a Yorkie for myself, I'd like to name a girl one Jasmine. I'm not sure about a boy one. I've always preferred boy dogs & girl cats. :dunno: Not sure why. Other than girl dogs are more apt to favor ONE person.

TACO BELL ANYONE?????

This is what we got for my mom.... she doesn't know it yet. We plan to deliver her next Saturday.

She's only 10 weeks old. We drove out to Discovery Bay to get her since she's a full blooded, but unpapered chihuahua she was about half of the going rate. Her ears are HUGE!! She weighs 2 pounds & should end up at 4 lb. They said she's piddle pad trained. We'll see....:dunno:

Had she been for myself, she would've had hair!! She hasn't barked yet. She whined at first in the car, but settled down. She will be playing with Daisy tomorrow, I'm sure! Daisy wants to play, but Missy isn't comfy yet. She's puppy hyper, but calms down pretty easy.

Not wanting the gift to be a "white elephant" we bought a hard carrier, a purse carrier, a portable house, 2 sweaters, (one matches the purse), a pink dish set, a take-a-long waterer, several toys, a Xmas outfit & reindeer hat, a book about chihuahuas, piddle pads, lease, pink & rhinestone collars, 2 harnesses, & will get her a tag, food & shampoo ( I used ours to bathe her already).

So far she's NOT YAPPY!!!

Well, we have survived 3 nights now. The first night was whiny. The second much less, she got up at 1AM & then decided to it was time to get up at 4.

Her daytime whining is gone. She will use whine to tell you when she wants something though.

Last night she woke up at 2 for a piddle break, then when almost right back to bed. She got up at 5 with my prince.

She favors him. She'll follow him around, want his lap, always pee for him when taken out. I keep telling him it looks like HE has a new pup..... he'll call her Minnie.... :lmao:

I DON'T WANT ANOTHER DOG!!:D

We just may end up with her though. My mom is being such a pain! We've planned to go there on Saturday. I called her yesterday & she wants to come here (she doesn't know we plan to go there or about the pup) "It depends on the weather" she won't drive in snow. She said she wants to leave home on Thursday.... well, guess when the snow is expected to come! It's almost funny! If she doesn't come here, she plans to head south to PHX to see my brother. She has no idea how long she'll be gone & MAY come here on here way back home. Via Indio, Lake Havasu, & Garden Grove (LA area).

So I was expecting to see her on her birthday (yesterday) & didn't. Got her something I can't mail, so she thinks I neglected her. Now she's not going to be around to pass this pup off to.

I may end up with a dog.

I KNEW I could handle fostering her for a week.

We're going to end up too attached to part with her....

Did I tell you I really don't want another dog????

Meanwhile, the way my brain works.... I'm already figuring out how to sneak her to Disneyland in March! The hotel doesn't accepts pets. But we'll have a balcony & take piddle pads. She has a soft tent/crate that she could sleep in & the purse to haul her in.... (I may get a backpack carrier) Disney has kennels & they charge 20 bucks (I think it's per day)

Yep, we're annual pass holders. We have been for many years. We went with Deluxe for a few years since my prince's weekends were Sun-Tues. Then when he changed shifts we went with the Premium Pass. It includes parking, but we don't park there (we leave the car/truck at the hotel). It also has 10-15% discounts almost everywhere to eat & shop in both parks & some of downtown.

I went to take this pup on errands with me this morning & the purse carrier has a broken zipper! It's head is bent. I think It can be fixed. I sure hope so, since we bought it at Petco & that's way out in Brentwood. I don't want to go out there. I will if it can't be fixed.

She was good. The tag machine was "out of service" so I called the number it had on it to see if there's another one close by. Since none of the employees had bothered calling it in, they are sending me a free tag. Silly thing to be excited about after all the funds spent.... but I still am. I'll have to get a new one if we end up keeping her anyway.

Right now she's napping on my lap.

I'm staying out of pets stores for a while! I'm afraid I'll find more to buy!!!

My mom won't have to buy anything for her for at least a month! I had to find a food that she'd be able to find in a grocery store since there's not much of anything where she lives. So I bought Benniful puppy food. I'll have to mix it for a few days with the Science Diet.

First "accident" this morning. It's raining. She'd done her business earlier, but I got busy with my chores & didn't take her out soon enough. Opps!

She's done remarkably well though.

She added another hour to her middle-of-the-night wake up... it was 3am this morning. She went out, pee'd.. broght in in for a nibble & water, played with her for about 10 minutes, took her back out for another potty run, put her to bed & NO SQUEALING!!! She slept till the alarm went of at 5.

At this rate tomorrow night she'll sleep all night!!

Got her purse replaced.:)

She'll probably with with me on a Target run this morning.
