from dc area down to chesapeake,va.

barely 1/3 of the tank was used, so i guess a little under half tank would be used to get me back home if i went back now.

i drove 190 or so miles roughly 31-33 miles per gallon.

Did you fill the tank and divide it by the gallons used or is this your best guess? Not dunning you, just asking for the facts.

I will let you know on Tuesday night how mine goes when I pick it up in TN and turn around and drive it back to NJ.

That thread states how to improve your gas mileage on a manual tranny. The OP one this thread is saying about how much he is getting.

i filled it up from empty. gas fill up $50.

my trip shows 185 miles, but it has 205 (i erased 20 miles because im paid for the miles beyond 20 miles. im reimbursed the 185).

and its still a bit from half tank.

my calculation is i used up roughly 6 gallons.

Yeah, you pretty much calculated right.

The fuel level indicator cannot be used to accurately determine the amount of gas used, not sure how linear the Gen8 Accord fuel level indicator is, but my Gen7 and other Gen7 ones I've seen are not linear at all, i.e. the first 1/2 of the gauge goes down in value noticeable slower than the second 1/2, I'd say I get somewhere around 60% of the mileage from the first 1/2 tank, and the top of the tank level is even worse, it almost seems I can get at least 1,000 km out of one tank if I really believe that 120km only required not even 1/8 of a tank........., but it has never turned out to be the case :dunno: :lmao:

Your most accurate number will be when you fill up after running the tank near empty after your trip and then work the mileage numbers into the equation.

I remember reading somewhere that car makers do this on purpose, to give the false impression of higher fuel economy.

Since I can now officially talk about the new Accord's, seeing as I have just gotten back from getting mine!!!
I figure I would let y'all know what I got for gas mileage on my trip back. I drove from TN to NJ, total mileage was 786 miles. I got 453 miles on the first tank. I filled it up and it took 16 gals. As you can see from that, I got 28.3 mpg. I haven't filled up again as I still have close to a half tank. (I think.) Oh, it is a auto V6 Coupe.

Side note* When I got the car, they had some kind of rep at the dealership and I asked him about break in. He said as long as I didn't "race" the engine its ok to go 70mph with cruise control on. Won't hurt the engine at all. That and don't change the oil early. Sorry for the off-topic at the end here.

I take it the accords don't have mpg or dte (distance to empty) display on the navi? I drive a Toyota Sequoia to work and find the info useful if not a little laughable on a big ol SUV :) the info displays above the rear view mirror and can toggle between average mpg, instant mpg, dte, and temperature outside. I recall the Acura tsx has a similar display in the instrument cluster.

Just wondering why you bought in Tn. I live about 60 miles from memphis. Any inside info on your deal might be instructive????

Yes - NAVI models have a "range" number that indicates miles to empty.

My 06 also had avg MPH and a few other features that aren't readily apparent on my 08. They might be there but un a different place.

The 08 trip computer works a bit differently, too. There's no reset button - rather it's tied into the trip odometer in the gauge cluster. Resetting A or B resets the number in the trip computer also. I'm still not quite sure how resetting the mileage relates to A or B. When I reset one, the AVG numbers don't change until I reset both to zero. So do the AVG numbers, Range, etc... belong to A or B or both? :dunno: I have to play around with it some more.

I just filled up my LX other day, first fill up.
went approx 350 m on 15.7gal, mostly all city /short trips, car only has 375m on it so still breaking in, but that's 22 mpg. I checked tire pressure and was all down around 27-28psi so bumped them up to 32psi. See how it looks with few k miles on it.

I got a great deal on the car there and they gave me a great price on my trade-in. Plus my dad knows the owner. But, they still have a 08 V6 Cpe Polished Metal Metallic. I am glad that I went to this dealership. Really friendly and they were doing all the stuff I asked, no questions asked. I highly recommend them.

Oh, its Reddell Honda in Murfreesboro, TN. Really good people!!:thmsup:

I just crossed 3,000 miles. I've only had one tank with 30+ mpg. The rest have been in the 26-29 vicinity. I drive mostly highway miles.

My point of reference is my 2003 I4 MT LX. I had the same mix of hwy/city miles, but never had a single tank with less than 30 mpg.

In total, my 2008 is getting 3-4 mpg less than my 2003.

cheesehead,

you have to remember here as well, your MPG should continue to improve, then plateau around 10k-15k miles after complete break-in.

also, remember that the 8th gen accord are heavier than the 7th gens, leading to more gas needing to be used in order to get the same effect (not much, but a little goes a long way).

Yes, I have been reading all of the posts about break-in & oil, break-in & mileage, etc. I am aware of the extra weight. I thought that I read where after adjusting for changes in the EPA mileage formula, the '08s would get the same mileage as the '07s, despite an increase in HP and weight.

The break-in point seems to span from 3,000 to 15,000.

My mileage is not improving, unfortunately. The last tank was my worst, despite no change in the city/hwy driving mix.

My '03 was getting 31-33 mpg out of the box.

I am otherwise quite satisfied with my '08. I love the many improvements over the 7th generation.

Seeing is believing..........I have a hard time believing that a Gen 8 would get the same or better mpg than a Gen 7, it weighs more............:)

Why, there are alot of factors that control mpg, "if" the mpg sited by gen7 are same as gen8 then the gen 8 "should" get better.
the 2007 to 2008 are slight increase in weight, but what about 20003 versions (that might be lighter).

Things like overall gear/tire ratio's, engine efficiency (compression ratio/emissions) etc all factor along with driving conditions.

I can't comment as never owned Honda accord before but the above should be true.

Edit; Also remeber this is a new model so some teething pains as with reprograming ECU maybe needed like this one
