All week long my prince has been raving about the new Odys....the "touring" edition! He was teasing me about trading in the Accord. Of course, that would be in his dreams! It does have some really nifty features though.... memery seats, both DVD & Nav, he likes the instruments, it greets you......
If we ever do win the lotto, that's what both of our daughters would end up with! He's NEVER been this excited over the Odys!
I'm hoping the next gen Pilots have these features too!:)

My wife and I bought an 04 Odyssey a few months back - on July 30th to be exact. At the time, we didn't know exactly what the 05s would have, how they would look, etc. We had an idea, but didn't know for sure. We thought some about waiting on the purchase until we saw exactly what the redesign was all about, but couldn't pass up the deals on the 04s...and we were pretty darn sure there wouldn't be any deals on the 05s for a while.
Anyway, no regrets on the 04 purchase. <knock on wood>
We've put 6,000mi on the 04 already, including a 2,000mi trip. So far, so good!

I do like the drop-down rear windows. A lot. Those would cut down on the A/C use. And they would allow us to enjoy places like The Smoky Mountains more; better to get some of that fresh moutain air in the cabin...rather than being closed up.

I'm only talking the new features.... the "built in" shade for the 3rd row, the "lazy susan" storage......
Being the same chassis as the Pilot I do have my fingers crossed that they will have these soon!!
Don't tell Benj! It's too much fun to tease him about even wanting a Ody....being a kid & all!;)
We won't get one ..... I have no need for a van..... I just think it's so funny that he's all drooly about it! If you knew us, you'd be cracking up about it! They're good vehicles! Just not for us.

The touring has a few extras. They're now considered the "top of the line" .....38K!
Yeah, the side doors having windows that open are cool!

As much as I'm a fan of the Odyssey, I'm not sold on this one yet. It was too much of a price increase all at once, value pricing went out the window in a big way. The styling is only so-so. Waiting to drive it and see if it's a real improvement. Some say it is, some say it's not. Some say the Sienna is even better, even though the 2nd gen won in a comparo against the Sienna. In all I'll wait until they come down a lot on price, which isn't too long from now. Reports already came out of $500 over INVOICE. Everybody is still trying to get a markup, but we'll see how far they get, especially after the tranny problems and the competition.

MSRP ranges from 26K-38K, dealers have been marking them up at least 500. When the Pilots were released they were 2K over, as were the first Odys of the previous gen. I friend waited (on a list) 6 months after they came out, then they wanted to charge 1500 more than they price agreed on!
They pull this when ever new ones comeout!

What I'm hoping is that the Touring edition is the start of Honda offering a high-luxury trim level that may spread to the other models, like back when the EX trim level was introduced around 1990. But that might eat some Acura sales, so maybe not.
I finally saw the new 05 Odyssey when I went for an oil change last monday, I think they look very cool in person. I liked the previous gen model's looks, but the new one has class and looks like an expensive vehicle. It takes the older model's good points and makes them better.

I think Honda and Toyota are doing a "test" on the upper end of the minivan market. If the Touring or XLE Limited do well, you might see some Lexus and Acura minivans ~40-50k.

I've already run across two people who have the XLE AWD Sienna and their only complaint is tire replacement cost since they have no spare they use run flats?? on a mini van:scratch:

Yup a lot of Odyssey owners said the same thing when it was found that the new Touring model would use the Michelin PAX system. To me it's really ridiculous because it doesn't leave you an out for snow tires or replacement tires. The Sienna system is still okay - you could use any tire (at the risk of getting a flat with no spare) since it's a conventional rim. The Odyssey PAX system has a 17.5 inch rim - you can ONLY use the Michelin PAX tires.

I just can believe how many extras they're putting on the touring package! There's nothing left to add!! I REALLY REALLY hope they do this for the Pilots......

Yes there is - HID's, Laser Cruise Control, all heated/cooled/powered seats (incl. power fold down third row), and most importantly more power - lots and lots of things they could add for that money!! Not to mention more sound insulation :(

OK, there's not much I'd add..... It comes with the backup sensor, 3-way auto climate control, side curtains....
anyway, there's the all important MEMORY SEAT!!! Now that's THE feature as far as I'm concerned!!
I don't know if it has the backup camera... I'd still want that too.
The point is saving my guy the trouble of all those installations to have the extras we usually want. So I'm hoping our next Pilot & next Accord comes with a bunch of bells & whistles!:D We're not looking for about 2 years though, so they have time to add more HP too!

I didn't know that Honda put something above the EX on the 05s. 'Course, I don't know all that much about the 05s. I'm going to check over at edmunds.com some.
[EDIT: Plus all the good info in this thread! :D ]

Go to Honda.com.....each trim has al ist of what they add....
In order to save fuel they only use 3 cylinders under cruising load..... since that's going to be more noise & vibration, they have special motor mounts & use acustic feedback to counter the noise!
They also have parking sensors front (corners) & back.... when turned on it tells you when you're 20" from things.....
He comes home jabbering about more features everyday!:)

I was trying to find the replacement cost for the PAX tires; hard to do, since apparently right now they only come on the Odyssey and the RR Phantom in the US. (Nissan has a new 05 model that will use PAX, but not sure which one)
But I found this article about a replacement partnership between Michelin and Honda...
GREENVILLE, S.C., Sept. 27 -- Consumers experiencing a flat tire with a 2005 Honda Odyssey Touring edition equipped with Michelin(R) PAX System(TM) will be less likely to interrupt or delay their trip.
Michelin North America has created a multi-tiered service program designed to maintain the highest levels of consumer satisfaction by replacing or repairing PAX System tires quickly. The most innovative element of Michelin's aftermarket approach is the Michelin "hatbox."
One of the easiest options for a driver requiring tire service will be to stop at a Honda dealership, which can be located by calling toll-free 1-877-PAXTIRE. Each of the 1,000 Honda dealers in the United States is equipped with a Michelin PAX System hatbox. The hatbox contains a complete, ready-to-use PAX System assembly.
The dealer service representative will remove the PAX System assembly from the vehicle, replace it with the complete PAX System assembly from the hatbox, inflate the new tire and send the consumer on his or her way.
The used PAX System assembly is placed in the recyclable hatbox and returned to Michelin for inspection and analysis. A new PAX System hatbox will be delivered to the dealer.
To provide more traditional repair or replacement of PAX System tires, Michelin will have about 200 authorized Michelin PAX System servicing locations around the country. To help assure customer service, replacement tires and support rings have been sent to those locations. Michelin has also staged PAX System hatboxes at 32 TCI dealer locations to supply to the remainder of the Michelin dealer network as needed. In addition, special road service and emergency service providers will be dispatched to any motorist with a flat tire if they cannot reach a Honda dealer or authorized Michelin tire dealer.

And you can drive over 100 miles on your flat.....there's even a mile count down in the car.
I know it sounds like over kill for a van, but I'm still hoping the technology will be used in their other cars & trucks
The gov. is going to make the car companies all go to some sort of monitoring system for tires in a few years.... Just another area that Honda isn't waiting until they HAVE to!!

what is the range for a compact spare anyway??? since we are talking about flat fires here....

It doesn't have a "distance", just a 50mph limit. I think they figure the harder ride & tread that doesn't last will dictate. No chains allowed either!
