: Does your 08 accord roar?

Our new 08 accord is very loud when you give it gas. Someone else on the forum also noted this "non honda like roar". I'm curious if this is inherent in the new engine or if it's semi isolated.

P.S. Answer my poll and PM me your mailing address, and you will recieve a christmas present from me!

I can tell you that the 08 V6 sedan I test drove had a very distinctive exhaust note that was quite a bit more agressive than then 7th gen V6 under WOT.

Not sure about the 4cyl, but my V6 has an "aggressive" exhaust note at WOT.

My coupe definitely roars at WOT. The engine makes a great growling noise when wound up. And the coupes have a more guttural exhaust note than the sedans from what I've experienced. Along with the firmer ride, its definitely an all around more visceral drive than the sedan.

No roar whatsoever. At high rpm I consider my V6 to be one smooth sewning machine. Not might be be everyone's taste but I like it a lot.

More roar is just a muffler away :P

It is really not a roar. It is more of a sexy, alluring snarl when you rev it out to 5 or 6K.:):nuts:

During more normal driving it as quiet as a churchmouse.

No roar during normal and passive driving.

Wow nice to know that people w/Accord's that aren't 08 are voting and letting people know. When it was asked if your 08 roared. Hmmmm.....interesting

Must be boring over in the last gen sections...... But to answer the OP's question, my 08 EX-L I4 A5 sedan only makes noise when my right foot is planted to the floor, in all other mode's the HVAC or great audio system are all I hear.

And I think it's safe to say that, given the topic, he doesn't care about gen 7 Accords either.

Please see attached picture of my current garage.

The 03 sounds great. The 08 sounds like it's one missed gear shift from a blown motor. I think it's uncharacteristic of a honda. While I feel it may just be how the new engine sounds, I wanted to try and gauge how common it is.

Hi Snafu

Can you give more detail on what kind of noise and when during driving it sounds bad.

I have LX and have not noticed anything I would consider bad, but I don't have anything thing to compare as you are to the 03 accord.

If it really sounds so different, it might pay to bring it in to dealer as AFAIK 03 is K24 to, so shouldn't be to much of difference, maybe more throaty from exhaust, also has more power than 03.

Basically, the engine sounds like it's revving way to high during even moderate acceleration. Loud enough to hear over the stereo. But the rpm's look to be right where they should be. I think I'm going to go down and drive one or two other models to see if it's the same.

I don't have a 08 but I have had 3 seperate test drives trying to determine if I should upgrade my 06 LX auto. All three cars were either LX or LXP'S.
The first thing I noticed was how much engine noise entered the cabin compared to my 06. All three drives (over a 2 month period) produced the same results. After a closer look I noticed on the LX/LXP'S no under hood sound blanket or plastic engine cover. My 06 has it. It appears you have to move up to a EX to get both hood and engine insulator. I came away with the impression I was in big Civic instead of a Accord.

Are u sure that you are not in D3? Because the new accord's shift lever automatically goes to d3 and you have to move it to D. That would explain the high rpms. If not it could be the lack of hood insulation.

your right on the LX not having hood insulation, but honestly I don't notice anything bad.
I guess its what your used to driving, as my XR4Ti is very loud (intake and exhaust), so the accord "sounds" quiet to me.

Thanks Ed for your reply. I agree with you thats it's not bad but louder than my 06. I expected better being a new design. Do you feel it has ample power? I thought it felt a little strained on the highway. I'm looking at the same car you have - Silver with gray cloth.

Picked up a 08 Coupe on Christmas Eve and I do believe it DOES growl... LOVE it!

Hi Pahns51

I will give you my impression of its power, mind though that I haven't yet went WOT much above 4500prm.
Also as I stated I am coming from modded XR4TI ( turbo 2.3L 230 hp/250 tq approx)
What I find off the line its little slow in first gear till few mph pass as rpm need to gather(low stall speed torque convertor) but overall from slow speed to like 60mph or so its good with steady accel mantained.

Where i find it not so good is if your cruising along around 50 mph (your in 5 gear) and you want to pass car fast . Since engine is only taching 1800 you need rpm way up to get peak Tq, so 2 gears need downshifting, the 4 gear down happens fast and good timing but that's only like 2500 rpm so to get 3rd you would have to stomp on throttle.
So what I do is just manually go to D3 right after I put my throttle to 3/4- WOT as I don't like to wait.
but even doing that I find that's were the 2.4L is weakest point . In general this tends to be weak area in a lot of vehicles when they are geared for economy and have TQ band higher up in rpm range.

Now that said, that doesn't happen very often so overall I am satisfied with its accel especially in the lower gears, its very responsive ,even compared to my XR4Ti (which needs boost to really get going).

I think you should definitely test drive some other '08s to see if they do the same thing. Perhaps something isn't quite right with your active noise cancellation.

Hi all! I've been browsing this forum for a while, and lurk (troll) lolz great place for information. Bought my 08 ex-l v6 coupe nov 1st partially because of the great information this board supported.

I've been seeing this "wot" acronym being thrown around just wondering what it stands for. TIA. Oppss sorry as far as the topic. It doesn't "roar" I believe someone said in an earlier post its a sexy snarl. Only have 900 miles on it so far, but love it when i drive it. Weather is for shiz here in nyc these days so it spends most of hte days in hte garage.

"wot" = wide open throttle
