I have been getting a rattle sound when I move from a dead stop to about 15 mph for about a week, I finally go it checked the other day, he put me and the car up on the lift and told me accelerate as he lookedd for the noise and the guy said my catalyc converter is loosening up inside. I only have 114K on it. He said I can keep on driving, just the noise is going to get worse.
Has anyone else changed out their cat this early????:dunno:
i've had a similar issue with the midpipe, but never a cat... i cut out my midpipe and welded in a straight pipe... it's too bad yours isn't as inexpensive!!!

It could also be the heat shield that protects the car from the high heat of the cat. I would get another opinion.

agreed... my 300zx and Ford SHO had heat shield rattles at around 100-115k mile marks... a little bit of spot welding resolved the issue in both cases
my mercedes actually had an early 'trying to be environmentally friendly' dual cat setup , that ran into resonators and then out back to the exhaust... luckily, I live in Indiana....no inspections here and local welding shop put in a stainless steel setup excluding cat's all together ...
have someone take a look at that heat shield

had the same problem in a few cars. Typically easy to tell too....just tap on the cat with the handle of a screwdriver or the like and zero in on the rattle.

I can be either the cat itself or heatshield. the heatshield sound is very tinny sound, where the cat sounds like a rattling around something is lose.
If the car bottomed out at any time it could be the cat, also over heating cat can do it too. see if any signs of being hit on bottom and check all mounting points on heat shield .

I think I will get a second opinion,..well a couple weeks back it just started to get cold, with a fresh sheet of rain, add a dumb driver turning in front off me, and BAM!!! I ended up in a ditch..even then the concrete on the side of the road is not high enough (luckily), but my car did jump a lilttle bit( I was touching around 40mph).
:headbash:
I really hope its the heat sheild, but it also sounds like somthing is loose. I got my rear mount replaced a couple days before the incident, so I was thinking something has got to be loose.

Cat Converter replaced by Honda under a good-will warranty claim at 88,000, and the front 02 sensor at my expense at 108,000, no noises were present, just the check engine light came on...
