hey guys, i have a new problem
car chews up oil and fast.
(99 accord/80000miles)
driving to school (NJ going to VA) and i see my emmissions light on. i make it to school and have it checked at the honda dealer there. they tell me it was really low on oil. i asked if there was a leak, they said they didn't see one.
i drive back home, i check it and see it is still a little low. put a quart in then. i went to school, came back and needed another quart.
whats going on? why am i using so much oil?
:dunno::dunno::dunno:
thanks for the help

There is some explanation.
as long as it's not leaking all over the ground, rule leakage.
there can be a few reasons.
1-poor quality oil used during changes, or lack of oil changes. This causes piston rings to gradually carbon up and not scrape the oil down off the cylinders, it ends up burned off. This seems to be MUCH more common. The bulk oil most quicky lubes and many dealers/indie shops use is just not good enough. Even for a maker who's engines are fairly easy on engine oil.
2-defective pcv valve, either allowing too much flow or completely blocked, the latter causes excessive crankcase pressure.
3-valve stem seal degradation, which isn't all that common on a low mileage accord such as yours. With bad seals you'd see smoke on acceleration after idling, and/or smoke after a long deceleration (coasting) and then re applying the accelerator.

it's not poor oil and it's not that it didn't get changed often, it never went past it's due time or over on mileage

We have another member here, Stiller Fan, who's 99 Accord is also burning oil. He bought the car used with 130k+ miles.
My godmother, who has a 98 Odyssey which uses the same 2.3L VTEC engine as yours is burning a quart every 600 miles. - Sound similar?
Her's emits a small geryish/black cloud of smoke on cold days (or that's just when you can acutally see it) as she accelerates.
I think that oil usage is sadly a trait of these engines if they were not meticulously maintained with 'good' oil I guess? - You say they used a decent quality oil; what oil was it?
Are you the original owner of this car? If not, do you have records that the oil did get changed on time?
Check the PCV valve on top of the valve cover. Pull it out and shake it. Does it rattle?

define what's not poor quality to you.
have you owned the car since new?
Rings are most likely stuck.
