Do you think they should pick a side? I thought news was supposed to be fair & unbiased....silly me!

i figure it's a free country, they can do whatever they want.... it can be quite annoying though!

princess

But they give more time & attention to who they support. So maybe they'd annoy less if they couldn't pick one..... just a thought.....

"news" should be NEWS, not opinion. opinion shows are great when presented as such. yeah they are free to do what they want, but when they try to warp the minds of people looking for facts, that's gone too far..... ... sorry for the rant...... :(

princess

exactly! I don't mind the opinions, just don't present it as news. If I remember right, they used to have an "opinion" segment on most news programs. The "editorial" or something like that.

commentary it's called these days...

princess

Doesn't it seem like the whole half hour or hour is "commentary"?

I want the opinions, I just want to know which is which.:)

the shows seem somewhat divided now. for example, I watch fox news channel. On the Fox Report with shepoard smith, it's one hour or straight news, very, very good about keeping opinion out of that show... the next show, the o-rielly factor, is one hour of nothing but opinion and interview....... the show after that, hannity and colms.... is a debate show with both sides opinion, it's great fun and etertainment.... I promise I don't work for them...... but I may be a "opinion show" junkie.......

Thats the best thing about Fox..... NO B.S.

Fox news lets you know it's when it's opinion. You know that OReilly is opinion. He does have the oposing view on so he can ask them stuff.....but he's up front about what he thinks. When they do news, it's news.

I was thinking more along the lines of network news. ABC, NBC & CBS. On the national "news" it's more opinion than news.

Out of the "cable" news, the least reliable seems to be CNN. Which is sad since they're the ones other countries are apt to see......

It used to be that they HAD to give equal time to each side..... when did that change?

The local ones aren't quite as bad.:) :)

I hate CNN.... another issue around the world seems that they get completely different info... Currently, my wife and I have a German exchange student living with us for the school year, and she's into politics and news and such.... we've talked about 9/11 and such, and she's told me things that the said on the tv news over there that I've never heard here and seem very absurd..... so is her news correct or is ours??????

The truth is likely somewhere in the middle....

Fox News' slogan is "Fair and Balanced" and I beleive the slogan is true. True, O'Reilly is opinion, but he does not support one candidate over the other, and has never endorsed either of them. I think he has been equally fair to both Kerry and Bush.

As for the big 3 news media - they should not have an opinion and should not be able to endorse a candidate. Journalism is defined by Websters as "writing characterized by a direct presentation of facts or description of events without an attempt at interpretation." Therefore, I think Journalists should stick to this ideal as much as possible.

I guess there's a bunch of non-journalist, journalists!

The Times supports Kerry & has been very public about it. That's what got me thinking......

Don't forget AP, CBS and USA Today all supporting Kerry. They just don't admit it.

All story telling has a purpose and can't help being biased one way or another.

Pure news is basically boring for most people. Without opinion thrown in to tell you how to react to the report people might actually have to think for themselves. Now the power brokers would not want that to happen. They prefer what Mancow (syndicated radio host) would call "sheeple."

Great discussion here. Owning a Honda can be boring. No problems to discuss.

Did you know that if in the Nixon vs. Kennedy election had there not been the electorial college, Nixon would've won? He won the popular vote! I didn't know that! I knew there's been a case or two, but I didn't know it was THAT one! Think of how history was made by that!

Maybe if JFK hadn't been prez no one would've shot him... & he'd still be alive, or more recently dead. Maybe if he hadn't been prez, we'd own Cuba. Maybe....we'd all have been nuked.

Maybe "Watergate" would've been in the 60's instead of the 70's!;)

Folks can say what they will about Nixon, but he did have every right to challenge the Illinois result due to Daly and very likely vote fraud.

For the good of the nation, however, he did have the class to refuse to drag the matter out.

Something some in the party across the aisle could learn from?

still waiting for the election results....thought that bush would have won already...but, it's coming down to ohio, and they said that it could take weeks due to all the absentee ballots that need to be counted... :(

As soon as CA polls closed.....before the count started, they gave all ours to Kerry...It would've been funny if the popular vote went the other way....:D

I think he only got this state by 3%, which is awful close for a place known for it's libs!

I don't think Ohio will go into recount... it has to be within a .25% margin.

I think part of it may be that other boards may be there for complaining.... I mean they're set up more along that line. Where here, it's more for sharing info.

Nothing is perfect & I could come up with a long list of things I would do differently if I made these cars....but other brands are just, if not more, plagued with problems too. In general Honda does TRY to fix 'em. They succeed more than they fail. I like a company that tries.

:)

Did anyone notice the sad faces & looks of disappointment on election night on the cable news (CNN)?

At some point, when I wasn't lookin', news changed. I don't know when. It used to be taboo for the anchors to let their opinion be known unless they were doing an edtorial. Our local news would have a guy that would give us his "2 cents" at the end. We knew it was his opinion & the "doesn't neccessarily reflect the opinion of this station or it's broadcasters" was always said.

It kinda scares me! It feels almost like it's run by a central place. Sorta like the government news in other countries.

Maybe I'm just paranoid......:sorry:

A long time ago......so much of it has come to life!

That's what all the cameras in public places remind me of! I think the fact they've helped catch criminals is great, but the idea of being watched all the time drives me nuts!

The airport in London is now test-using cameras that work like Xray....they can see through your clothes! Great for people wanting more security, but it bothers me!:( They say they will have same gender operators.... that's not my issue, I just don't like it!

I really do worry about how many rights we've handed over for the sake of "security".
