majky 12-24-2007, 07:10 PM Thanks a bunch man! I may be ordering some new shoes for my Accord :)
Accordlover 12-24-2007, 07:13 PM Those are great markdowns but I feel sorry for anyone who will pay even $80 for that kind of tire. It may last for a long time but they howl, squeal, slide, and everything else but grip the road.
Best modification I've ever done was to change from those Michelin's, and I'm sure many will agree.

I hear you Accordlover.
When I have to buy new ones I'm likely getting Kuhmos. But I know some people have high regard for name brands.
majky 12-24-2007, 08:15 PM Sounds like I should do some research before I spend the money :) I have Michelin tires on both of my wheel sets right now and they are OK, though the 17"s are noticeably louder than the factory 15"s. The 17"s came off of an Acura CL-S along with the tires - the grip is OK but they are quite worn and I should replace them before they go back on the car in the spring (the CL-S owner loved the way these tires smoked :) ).
daavo 12-24-2007, 09:55 PM Thanks for posting Mark but the discount isn't worth it to me. The MXV's do last a long time but that's about it.
trainchaser 12-24-2007, 10:24 PM ...it didn't take long to notice that the OEM Michelins on my '05 were going to need replacing, I couldn't get them replaced fast enough, they were horrible in the rain, howled on anything approximating a fast corner, and they were HARD, which is why they last so long...
...go with another tire, if you want to stay with Michelin check out the new Primacy MXV4, its getting very good test results, but stay away from the old S8's...
cheers
Accordlover 12-25-2007, 06:53 AM I think these tires are excellent for highway drivers in the southern regions of the country. - When rotated properly these usually last 80k miles.
They're not for anyone who is into spirited driving at all. I could spin my tires on take off when I had these, now I can't with my Bridgestone Pontenzas. That's about the only thing I miss :lmao:
I've found that directional tires have great wet weather handling as well.
justblink778 12-25-2007, 07:39 AM Maybe good for someone about to return a lease car. I think Honda requires the same OEM replacement tires?

Nope - they only require 4 of the same tire with appx 50% or more tread. I've turned in 4 vehicles after a Honda/Acura lease - one with the factory MXV4's with 45k miles that were still in decent shape, and the most recent with the wife's Honda Pilot with a set of aftermarket Michelin LTX's with 39K miles........

justblink778 12-25-2007, 07:52 AM Wow, cool deal. I was wondering how that works. BMW requires replacement Run-flats @ 350 each.
Tom R 12-25-2007, 08:53 AM Any thoughts on the new OEM...HX MXM4...on '08 EX-L 4 cyl??? I only have 100 miles so far...no particular opinion yet.
BTW...we just put 177,000 on 3 (or maybe 4) sets of MXVs on '98 Volvo and thought they were fine. Long wear and traction never seemed to be a problem. Is there more than one version of the MXV???? I guess it doesn't matter now since that vehicle is gone! :)

Overall, the MXV line has been a decent tire - the MXV4's we had on the wife's Acura Legend were outstanding. They upgraded the line to an MXV4 Plus in the late 90's, which were also decent. The MXV4's they put on the Accord are the "S8" variant, which have two things going against it - first, the tread design is much different (and IMHO, less effective), and second the tread width is much narrower - likely to help with MPG ratings. The typical MXV4 has a wider tread and a pretty decent design that handles both wet and dry conditions - where the MXV4 S8 falls short. The latest design is the MXV4 Primacy, which is holding true to the original MXV roots, and I'd be comfortable with that tire.
