Ok i had my accord about a year and just recently (1 week ago) replaced my engine and transmission. The engine runs good but it wont shift into overdrive also the rpms jump around 3 and at 20 mph and the car starts jerking around like crazy. Dont understand it and the engine has 64K and other people say its the tcu but im confused. So if someone could kindly help my problem that would be great thanks.

Why did you replace both engine and tranny?

We need a bit more information about the swap. What was the original engine/tranny setup? What engine tranny did you put in there?

If the check engine light or D4 is on, then go to Autozone to get the code read. for free.

well i replaced the engine becaus it was finshed it didnt even work anymore well i needed a new head gask. but i figured id just get a new engine. original and new engine were the same both automatic v6 and i had high milage 165k and that was replaced a week ago and the trans was replaced earlier in the year (march) and that was replaced because it would stall out and jerk very often and rpms would act up alot.what do you mean tranny setup? D4 light?

Did you replace the trans with a used trans?

Or a rebuilt/brand new one?

If you replaced it with a used one, the reason why you're having issues is because like the one it replaced, it's failed.

The trans. in the 98-02 Accord has a design flaw which leads to premature failure. The best replacement is a new or rebuilt transmission. Used is just going to mean it's gonna die again faster.

it was a rebuilt trans

Did it come with a warranty of any sort? - Sounds like it's croaked just like the one before it.

What kind of Automatic Transmission Fluid was used? - Honda ATF is the only recommended fluid for the Automatics.

How many miles has the rebuilt one been driven?

so there was no indication that the transmission was failing prior to the installation of this new engine?

Do you have a check engine light on, or when you're driving down the road, does the D4 light on the dash flash?

Are you using the same TCU that was in the car before? Same ECU?

There should be a light that looks similar to this that comes on momentarily when you start the car then goes off.

If you're not seeing this light as you turn the car on then there's a problem. Other lights that should come on are the SRS light, the oil light, and the seat belt light (along with the beep - beep - beep). All those light should go on and then off.

I can't see the pic, but you don't see any lights in the gauge cluster while driving down the road right?

That's all that matters really, just making sure nothing is saying "I'm malfunctioning".

Does what's happening now, feel like what happened when the first trans bit the dust. - Was the trans fluid changed in that 40k miles? You should change it with Honda fluid every 30k.

If it feels like it did when the first tranny went I'll put my money on you needing another replacement.

I don't know which manufacturer did the rebuild on your unit (Honda?) or who installed it.

Hopefully whoever put it in used the proper fluid. A shame if it only lasted 40k.

Your accord have any performance mods? - Driven hard? Raced?

would this make a difference if i used to have a 99 v6 engine and now i have a 01 v6 engine in my 99 accord?

Possibly. I know everything bolts up right, but the computer programming could've possibly changed from 99 to 01. I've been searching for Part numbers, and I'm pulling up a Honda part # of 37820P8C-A61 for the 01 V6 ECM. I cannot find the 99 V6's ECM part number for some reason. :dunno:

I'll keep trying. - If they're different parts, that tells us a lot. The Reman tranny is for the 99 Accord though, right?
