I drive an 08 accord sedan. I check my oil the morning and it's at half way. I have 3100 miles on it. Should I add more oil to have a full tank of oil?

Yes, add oil. Not synthetic though, as the factory fill is dino oil. New cars will have the tendency to use a little oil until they're broken in. No worries.

Just change it when the Maintenance Minder says to. :)

If by half way you mean between the highest and lowest readings on the stick you're fine. - I was thinking you mean the engine has used half of the oil oil it orig. had in it.

If its just in between the max and min then its fine. Is that what's you're saying? :dunno:

Was the car sitting all night or did you take a short ride before you checked? If you did start the car before you checked? If not the missing oil is up in the block not in the pan. I don't see how a dealership would give out a brand new car with half a pan full of oil. A reading of half full in any car is a lot of oil to go missing. If its nothing then the underpants gnomes may have added phase 2.

Honestly that would not surprise me one bit...but with the info provided by the original poster, its hard to tell the cause.

if its halfway between the two holes then its fine.

when i clean my car on saturday mornings i check the fluids also. the car had been sitting over night so all the oil shoulda been drained from the engine...it was still half way...so i added oil anyways...

it didn't make a difference in the way the car drove or sounded so im assuming oil at half way around 3000 miles is alright...only 2 more k for oil change...that'll take like 2 weeks

'08 V-6 of mine was full when new, and needed 6oz. at 1450 miles. I used Motorcraft 5-20 synthetic blend, which is really just hydrocracked dino oil.
It now has 2300 and is about 3oz. low.

There is also up to half a quart of oil that will rest in the oil filter. This is so when the engine starts it will get primed through the filter. The filter has an anti-drain back valve that opens under pressure while the engine is running.

ohh true...i bought some penzoil 5-20 oil...i called my dealership for some honda oil but they didn't have any...i'm close to an oil change so i'll be able to monitor the oil situation much better after..tanx all!
