i visited garden state honda in clifton, nj and hudson honda in west new york, nj, and i have never been so insulted in my life.
i spent all day waitin for calls back from them after i request quotes and their inventory inquiries.

hudson honda promised me that they had 2, not 1, ex-l v6 mt's in stock and they were willing to go under msrp if we came in. when we came in, they said they had the AT in stock, and that they just sold th2 mt's within the past 30 minutes. :thumbsdow

garden state honda was the one that really irked me, though. i talked to 2 sales reps and even their manager. they all quoted me invoice price w/ tax and destination. the manager assured me that they have the car in stock and that they would hold it for us until we got in. we went there and the salespersons we spoke to apparently weren't there. instead we were greeted by this really obnoxious sales person that said that they didn't have the car in stock, and that they wouldn't go under msrp. the worst part was that we asked for the manager and he wouldn't bring him to us. when we talked to another sales rep he said he would work with us but that sales person argued with him IN FRONT of us about how they can't do that. we even walked to the manager's office and he said he would give us the price as quoted over the fone, but then that sales person contradicted him in front of us and told us they can't do that. he said that he can't work with what other sales rep's say since they're on their own. wtf kind of dealership is that? :thumbsdow:thumbsdow:thumbsdow:thumbsdow:thumbsdow :thumbsdow

i decided to settle on paragon honda in queens cuz they gave us the price up front and was honest to us about the car's availability and so forth. i ended up gettin the car for a little under 27500 includin destination.

Said it before and I'll say it again, they are great to drive but terrible to buy.

This really seems to be a pattern for many Honda dealerships. It seems like Honda would try to address this. I've had similar experiences and will be hesitant in the future.

The last dealer I purchased our '07 from still sends me "service flyers" in the mail. I refuse to return to that dealership but will let them waste their $ on postage. Whatever that's worth.

Wow, that sounds rediculous. Seems like you could just tell the salesman that you will not buy the car if he is involved in any way. Not like he could do much since they are "on their own", whatever that means.

Well I am not surprised by your experience at both of those dealers. I have found that the more "suburban" dealers are usually easier to work with. Bought my '06 from Madison Honda (located in Madison, NJ) and it was a smooth transaction. Had previously visited Planet Honda in Union, NJ and they were horrible to work with.

Two very good dealers in my experience: Ray Price Honda in East Stroudsberg, PA and Morehouse Honda in Newburgh, NY.

Wow, sorry that happened to you. I know that it is a bit of a drive from NYC, but down here in Southern Jersey Burns Honda in Marlton is great. Sales and service. Although I didn't buy it here, I almost did purchase here. I just got a better deal from a family friend down in Tenn. But, I have used the service and it is great. Just a bit of info for those down here.

What you described is common in dealerships. The fancy name is "bait and switch".........

I used to manage at a dealership, and the salespeople NEVER were allowed to undermine what I said. I had a couple of them I fired for doing just what you had happen..........

It's stupid, but it happens a lot............:thumbsdow
