View Full Version : Opinions on wheels (with pics)

I picked up an '06 I-4 EX 5-spd this week. One of the wheels got bit by a curb and the tire has a chunk out it, so I'd at least have to replace one wheel/tire (I got some more money out of the dealer because of this).
Well, I have a set of wheels off my Mazda RX-7 which happened to have the same bolt pattern, so for giggles I mounted them up to see how they fit. The Rx-7 wheels are 16x8, offset +50 (I think), with 225/50/16. If I use the Rx7 wheels, I'll at least get them painted and sand off the Mazda toilet bowl emblem and get a new set of 225/55/16's (same diameter as the stock accord tires).
The wheels cleared fine, the only thing that will be close is probably the fender lip on the front (which could be an issued if I lowered the car a good bit). I took the car for a ride, and it sure did handle the turns nice. The only drawback I noticed was steering wheel pulled a bit more based on road surface. An interesting side note is that the Mazda wheel/tire weighed 34.5 lbs while the Accord wheel/tire weighed in at 38.5 lbs.
Anyways, any opinions on the wheels? I was thinking about painting them a gunmetal gray. Or should I just stay with the stock EX wheels?

I'd get a replacement rim honestly. Those just don't look right on the Accord.
eBay is a great resource for replacement wheels. I got a new refinished one for 127shipped. I see newer models rims for less.
I'd be sure an replace at least 2 tires at a time. :)

They look pretty lonely in those big wheelwells :(.
They don't look good at all to these eyes. The stock wheels look much better imo. :)

Congrats, I came from an RX-7 too. I have to say, they dont look right on the accord. They look elegant and lightweight on the 7 but too small on the accord.

The wheels do not compliment the car.

Maybe the pictures dont do it justice, cause I kinda liked them. I really liked how they flushed out with the side of the car. My neighbor across the street has the same car (even same color) and I wouldnt mind having something a little different to tell them apart ;)
Keep in mind that these tires are almost an inch shorter than the stockers, and I would be putting on new tires that will be the same diameter as the stockers.
If I did these wheels I'd also probably get a set of lowering springs to take up the remaining excess wheel gap. What's the deal anyway, it looks like the front is like an inch taller than the rear?

The thing that bugs me is the wheels look very 90's on a very modern day car.
Why not sell the RX-7 rims for cash to buy new ones? Many of us on here buy new wheels on ebay and such for less than $500. A variety of Acura and Honda rims fit the Accord and look very nice.

You asked for opinions and no one likes them but you.....know what? You are the only one that really matters.

I tend to agree with everybody about the look of the wheel, it looks ok, but its not great. I think the biggest thing is that they are 16's. Now adays 16's look small and mild on newer cars (I remember the day when 16's were big).
Well how about these? These are the front wheels for my RX7. They are 18x8.5 with a +45 offset. They look about perfect for the rear but they'll stick out too far on the front (they are past the front fenders).

1st set doesn't go with the car. Not right. And the smaller sized tires (225/50-16) make it look even weirder.
2nd set are much better.
I agree with AccordEd if you decide to keep those rims it definitely needs to get rid of the 4X4 stance. Those rims would look awesome if you dropped it to get rid of some of that gap.

If the front wheels stick out past the fender how would you safely drop it?
I still think they look out of place on a very stock plain jane Accord. - Sell them and buy wheels that fit the car right, and maybe don't require lowering.

The second set of wheels are the front wheels to my RX7 (where they will remain). I threw them on for me (and you guys) to see what 18" mesh wheels would look like on the Accord. I thought they looked really good, even better if the car was lowered (with proper offsets).
For now I ended up getting a refinished stock wheel to replace the damaged wheel, and I'll save the old RX7 wheels for some autocross tires (for the RX7). Thanks for the opinions!

The second set look incredible to me. I am not about to lower my car to get rid of the "4X4" look. You need to make up your own mind on how your car looks. Don't pay any attention to what others think. If they don't like it open up a contribution fund, if YOU don't like it then change it.
The name of the thread is opinion...So people are voicing their own whether its positive or negative, it's an opinion. And it's kind of hard to ignore what other people think about your car. Why else would you post pictures wanting to know what others think only to disregard it? Apparently he cares what other's think.
