:I've tried searching around but didn't really find a solution. I have an 03 Accord (I4-auto) that is acting up when the cruise control is engaged. I can press the "Cruise Main On" switch and it shows on the dash as turning on, however when I press the set cruise the light flashes for a split second on the dash and then won't stay on. However, when I pull up (or back, I guess) on the brake pedal it will stay on. This leads me to think it might be the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)? Any thoughts or opinions on this? Anyone know where I could go about finding one of these other than the stealership? I've looked around and alas have come here. :)

Welcome to DA.

Not to state the obvious, but if it works when you "pull up" on the brake pedal; might it not be the pedal height or the brake switch? I had a similar problem with my Jetta due to a series of faulty brake switches that were subsequently recalled. (That car was craptastic!)

After stepping on the brake pedal, the brake switch would stay slightly engaged; leaving me driving around with my brake lights on constantly, "tricking" the cruise control into thinking I was riding the brakes (in addition to other drivers thinking I was a dufus, I'm sure :paranoid:). Not to mention that the situation resulted in numerous dead batteries because the brake lights would stay engaged long after the car was parked.

OTOH, have the brakes been serviced recently? If the lines weren't bled properly, it could also lead to a low brake pedal which is causing the switch to engage.

It seems to me that if it were the VSS, the "set cruise" wouldn't engage at all, regardless of the position of the brake pedal and your speedo would be all wonky.

Hm, thats definately a possibility; however, my brake lights are not always lit up and I have not had any brake work done lately. The only work that has been done since the problem was the 105k service and a tire rotation. (Plus one new rim to replace a bent one) Is it still possible that there is a bad brake switch even though the lights don't remain on?

Yes... Your switch can be bad or out of adjustment and still have the brake lights light up properly. Check out the switch. It is the likely culprit of your problems.

So, its a brake switch or is there a more technical term for it? Any idea of where I could buy one besides the dealer? Any clue as to where it is located?

Aren't those switches adjustable with a threaded shaft and lock nuts? If it was even slightly out of adjustment it could cause a problem.
