Not living where it snows (normally), I enjoy it when I go to it....

My family calls me to tell me all about the snow they get every year...:)

We've had a little here. In '90 & '99. It happens & rarely sticks.

i would be going insane during winter with no snow...although i will admit, by the time winter is about over, i am very much welcoming the warmer temps...it's good to have sub-zero temps every once in a while, but when they last till may with the snow, it gets a little ridiculous...

We have cold days too! Well, maybe not by your standards... we'll have a week here & there that the highs are in the 30's with fog all day. We also have a night or 2 with a 20's! But that's only now through Jan. By Feb. the frost is sparce. By March there's usually none, unless a weird pattern comes through. The end of March is planting season. In April the tulips & daffodils arrive..... Last April we had a week of 100+ temps! That's NOT normal!

We do have seasons.... just not as long as other places, & not as extreme.:)

So did it fool them???

I just came inside after trimming, mowing & cleaning the backyard.... it's perfect weather for that here. Tomorrow after errands & a trip to the polls, I plan to wash my car. We were busy over the weekend (see "what else" thread). I did give Belle a quick bath. I snuck out while my prince was napping through a Harry Potter movie.;) I'm not so good at drying the top....but she was brown instead of red from last week's commute in the rain. Tink has some road grime too....but at least she still looks blue!!!

I need a long handled dryer too!:)

I am hoping for a dry Friday since it's time for us to go buy this year's tons of pellets for the fireplace. If we take my car out of the garage, then we could back the Pilot in & unload staying pretty dry. Unlike when we had the old Chevy truck, we now have to bring the ton home in 2 loads......

The snow level is down to 4000' in the mountains now. You need chains on both main routes!

Snow is possible for Thanksgiving
Tuesday, November 23, 2004

By Jerome L. Sherman, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Canadians won't be celebrating Thanksgiving, but our neighbors to the north may be sending us something to mark the holiday -- the season's first snowfall.

The National Weather Service says there is a 30 percent chance of snow Thursday in the Pittsburgh region.

After a steady rain soaks the area Wednesday night and early Thursday morning, a cold front will move in from Canada, causing temperatures to drop.

"In the morning, it won't feel that cold. But, by the afternoon, that cold air will come in," said Jon Pacheco, a meteorologist with AccuWeather in State College. "It will start to feel like winter."

Pacheco said the temperature could fall to the mid-20s Thursday night, causing any leftover precipitation to turn to snow.

That would be below normal for the region around Thanksgiving, which usually sees temperatures in the 30s and 40s.

The all-time low for the holiday came in 1950, when the temperature hit 7 degrees at the airport.

Rain or snow may also fall over the weekend, said Russell DeMaris, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. He said he couldn't make any predictions about accumulation this far in advance.

The snow predictions are not likely to jump-start the ski season. November has had mild temperatures and lots of rain, meaning the ground at local ski resorts probably will not have the solid, frozen base needed to hold snow, according to Bob Duppstadt, manager of public relations at Seven Springs Mountain Resort in Somerset County.

"We always target Thanksgiving as our opening weekend, but I think it's a long shot," Duppstadt said. "We're gearing up to make snow and open as soon as possible."

Hope you get some!

I've been whining about our cold nights ...in the 30's. But it's been dry. We haven't even had fog this week. I'l come back for the traveleres over the weekend though...I'm sure of it! Our son will be coming in from Sacramento, soI'll have to worry about him driving in the fog.... kinda the standard this time of year.:)

We haven't actually had frost yet though... it hasn't stayed below 32 for long enough. We will.

Over on the coast where Benj is, it stays in the 50's & 60's all year long. With a few days maybe 70's in the Summer & they MIGHT get frost once during the Winter. It HAS actually snowed in SF a couple of times! Here, we get a tiny bit every few years. :)

I just wanted to say, the 7th Gen Accords are kick %&! in the snow and ice. This was the worst winter storm we've had in Ohio in many years, and this car just rolls on through. It's got just enough weight to get through the snow without bouncing along the top, but still light enough to handle well. Perfect balance. And it has never hinted at getting stuck. And this is with the stock Michelins - I can only imagine how it would be with real snow tires! Good job Honda.

they may be kick ass in snow, that is until you let me behind the wheel of my mt! :lmao: something tells me i better quit peeling tire and SOON. that can't possibly be a good way to keep control of the car in snow and ice!

although i have to admit on the parked snow/ice the other day, it did seem pretty confident, except at the one stop sign........ i stopped fine. but starting, well, that was shall we say, interesting. it stayed in control entirely, but i could tell the tires had next to nothing to grip!

On snow and ice, try starting in 2nd. Practice this a few times before you need to use it, so you don't kill the engine.

even on an uphill slope? i already do it alot on downhill slopes, so i can handle those! :)

it needs to snow on a weekend day, either very early or very late while the malls are closed so i can go practice in some parking lots! that's what i did when i learned how to drive (automatic). my dad would not let us drive anywhere in the snow until we spent alot of time in "safe" areas with him putting us in sketchy situations and trying to train us on how to handle it if you get into a spin, learning how to safely stop, and just in general how the car handled...

now i need to spend some quality time with my car in that same sort of way! ;) best to do it now while i still have the "beater"! :lmao:

This morning the "grapevine" is closed due to snow! Thye said it's the most they've had there in years!

This is the part of Interstate 5 that runs (north/south though our whole state) that is between Bakersfeild & LA. It's only 4400 ft.

The funny thing is that it doesn't matter if our Disneyland trip is planned for Dec., Jan., or Feb. or even sometimes in Mar. it seems to always get shut down 2 weeks before we go! Our trip is planned for Jan 14th weekend!

Last year we chickened out of taking the Accord & took the Pilot. We're planning on using the Accord this time.....

I get such a laugh when the national news talks about the weather.... they just mentioned all the rain & snow in NV. They pronounce it Nev-ah-da. Locals say it Nev-aa-da. aa as in apple.

When something happens in the city nearby of Concord... They pronounce it Con-cord.... locals say Con-curd.

Anyway.... it seems to offically be Winter pretty much through out the country today! What's warm today is supposed to cold tomorrow!

The Sierras got 8' of snow. Even our local hills got snow. We just got really wet! It's only in the 40's today, just a 10 degree warm up from our night's low! Hot tea sure sounds good! We're supposed to be dry for a day or two, which means colder nights & fog....

Minn. City Hits 54 Degrees Below Zero

AP Photo NY3

By The Associated Press

Temperatures plummeted across the eastern half of the nation Monday, approaching an all-time record in northern Minnesota and freezing the Gulf Coast as a river of Arctic air pushed southward.

Thermometers registered a low of 54 degrees below zero at Embarrass, Minn.

``You keep living, but it gets old after a while,'' said Christine Mackai, the town clerk for the community of 691 people in northeast Minnesota.

An autopsy was planned Tuesday to determine if the frigid weather contributed to the death of a 49-year-old disabled woman found Sunday morning, at least eight hours after her motorized scooter tipped over in St. Paul, Minn., where the overnight temperature dipped to 9 below zero.

``We, all of us, defend against the cold, but able-bodied people have no appreciation for what those in wheelchairs and using other medical devices have to endure,'' St. Paul police spokesman Paul Schnell told KARE-TV.

Minnesota's record is 60 below, set on Feb. 2, 1996, in Tower, about 10 miles north of Embarrass.

The cold at Embarrass didn't stop the regular customers from getting their morning coffee at Four Corners, a cafe and gas station.

``Everybody left their cars running,'' waitress Trish Roggenbuck said. ``It was pretty much breathtaking when you walked outside.''

While below-zero readings stayed in the upper Midwest, thermometers dropped below the freezing mark all the way to the Gulf of Mexico coast.

The morning low was 28, with wind chills in the upper teens, at Mobile, Ala., Gulfport-Biloxi, Miss., and Pensacola, Fla. A hard freeze warning was in effect overnight into Tuesday morning for parts of Mississippi, the weather service said.

Mackai said Embarrass had been prepared for bitter cold as early as last Thursday. ``It only got down to 28 below, and that's nothing. That's no big deal,'' she said.

Elsewhere in northern Minnesota on Monday, Babbitt chilled to 51 below, and International Falls - which calls itself the Nation's Icebox - dropped to 44 below, the national Weather Service said. Farther south, Minneapolis-St. Paul bottomed out at a mere 11 below.

The arctic blast followed several days of subzero temperatures. Weather service meteorologist Greg Frosig in Duluth said Monday's high would still be below zero in northern Minnesota.

you may see anywhere from 2-4 to 5-7 additional inches by sunday night....the next clipper is coming down the pike now, and it looks to be working with alot more moisture this time around....unlike the last one.

depending on it you stay all snow or not, you may even see brief periods of rain/frz rain/sleet mixing in as well....it just all depends on where the storm tracks....if it pass far enough to the south, all snow; closer to you, wintry mix....to the north (doubtful), mostly rain....i think that the storm is supposed to go through TN, then off the hatteras coast, eventually turning into a nor'easter...can't wait to drive in that sunday night after the game. :D

one side of my car is completely clean as in the rest of it, but the side that is shielded from the wind has about 4-6 inches of snow ON THE VERTICAL SIDE of the car...

some cars in our parking garage have 4 inches of snow on them while some in the open have none cos the snow is coming in sideways

They are using a special formulated salt here that works in low temperatures, as if plain salt wasn't bad enough!. According to the article it is "non corrosive" I would think that anything that speeds up the activation process of salt would make it worse. And while I'm on this topic, I have heard of many people who do not even wash their car when it's below say.. 15 degrees because everytime you get the salt wet; it activates it. It makes sense to me. plus everytime you wash your car your "polishing" the salt granules right into your paint. So I would think that "less washing is better" in extreme temps.

Inspector1
01-25-2005, 10:46 AM
They use salt primarily here in SW Ohio.
I wash my car as often as possible to remove salt build up , because it will get wet again when you drive.
If you use the proper technique when washing you will minimize the possibility of marring your finish.
I believe that keeping the finish clean and protected are the most important things you can do for your paint.
When temps dip below 0 I still will stop at the car wash and spray my car down with Rinse Only and then drive home(only .2M)
then finish with QEW or Spray and Wipe alternating between the 2 and using WAUD(Wax as u dry) when I do QEW(quick and easy wash). It also helps when you have a heated garage.;)
I am still experimenting with different sealers and waxes on the Accord.
The MPV has only had about 4 washes since early December and
looks great with treatments of 4StarUGE (Ultimate Gloss Enhancer-a quick detail spray for Acrylics and Polymers) on top of the Klasse AIO/SGx3.

MODELS AND LONG RANGE STUFF....R. GUARINO...FRI FEB 25, 4:30 AM
EURO SAYS BIG STORM POSSIBLE !

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ONE STORM---ONE MODEL---ONE FORECAST..4:30am FRIDAY....
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just like the Eagles Motto this past season it will all come down to the BIG ONE. Could this be the Superbowl of storms? It has a chance to go down as one we'll talk about for awhile like 1993, 1996 and 2003 !
LET US COMPARE LE MODELS
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Out of all the models the ECMWF (euro) has been very consistent. This has been the case most of the winter when we are 3-6 days out with this model. It does a 1996 track including the LOW at 28.93". That is a minimal Category 1 on the hurricane scale (winds 50-75mph). The '96 track...this is a great site, check it out ! (http://www.njfreeways.com/weather/07-Jan-96-SeaLevelPressure.html ) shows a 992mb placement vs. a 980mb for this storm. The tracks are very, very close but the Euro says this will be stronger. Back in 1996 the surface map showed a HIGH elongated over Canada with a 1036mb high hanging back over Northern Plains. This was when the LOW was developing just East of Savannah GA at a weak 1004mb. The Euro for Monday says 1022 high elongated over Canada and a weaker 1018 high over the Northern Plains. When you are going to predict a possible storm of this magnitude you really have to go back to Climatology and past historic storms and documnet every move they made.

This time around the Euro takes the same track but here are the changes vs. 1996. Oh by the way if your memory is foggy, and mind is now at 4:00am, Philly got 28-32" of snow. This was the biggest storm in the history of our fine city.

It wants to make the LOW stronger than 1996 but the HIGHS are weaker. This could balance out being the Millibar difference of the two systems back in 1996 was 40mb west to east and 28mb to the north. This Monday the Euro says 44mb west to east and 30mb to the north. Not to confuse anyone but the basic forecasting says the more the gradient difference the bigger the storm will crank. It is almost dead on to 1996 and actually slightly stronger.

We get the EURO and 24"+ is a done deal ! I am in with 40% on this model. A word of caution here. This is a one model outlook not my forecast as of Friday morning. When I post these model summaries that is what they are, quick summaries for easy reading. Some wx boards people seem to confuse the two.

I'll do much more on the models later today but for now check out the graphics and see how each lines up for now.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MONDAY MADDDDDDNESS ! Cali Crusher Update 2:00am Thursday
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What has changed from the post last night ? The GFS now shows the Nor'easter in full swing with the big cities in the snow and the coastal areas in the mix or rain at times. NYC and Philly would get a 8-14"+ snow storm from this system.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CMC-GGEM Canadian
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WOW....Takes the LOW from Georgia to off the NJ coast and pops it at 985mb/29.08" 50 miles east of NJ. This is a snow for the Big cities with 12-18" of snow and a mix 30-40 miles inland from the coast to the coast.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ECMWF...Euro time....
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Takes a 998mb LOW 75 miles SE of Wilm, NC and rides it NE and rides it out to sea. We get a good piece of this exploding 998mb LOW as it moves out.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What I see for Monday-Tuesday
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah it is 5 days out, but I am leaning toward the snow for the big cities. The NAO will do its thing and the BIG LOW today will get stuck over New Foundland as the Greenland Block has enough left to spin. The LOW near Michigan is less of a player now so I like the snow chances. Early Early call....Philly 8-16", NYC 9-18".....
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
11:00 am update WEDNESDAY
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The NAM has upped the ante and now shows Philly at 7" and a good portion of the area 4"+. This track is further north & also stronger. This also means near Dover DE to Millville NJ and points east may now have a more mixed idea.
The NAM has been the best with this storm so far, so yeah, I slightly lean this way. NYC to Trenton is now also in the bigger snow with 6-7" as well. Fluff factor could even take this a bit higher. Again, this is only one model. The GFS now shows a decent snow here with 4-6" possible.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THURSDAY SNOW .....2:00am update WED
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ahhhh don't ya just love the last minute storms. They sneak up and can surprise you. The NAO is tanked and this is letting the storms drift more north. The models have been southern bias all winter until 48 hrs out. One of the reasons could be the mishandling of the Big Cali(California) LOWS this year. Pieces of storms have been ejected from the notorious REX block out west and this really get the models confused.

So we have another snow that should put PHL over the 22" mark for the season. The normal is 20.9" My projected winter total made back in Nov was 22-28" in Philly. The storm is rather flat but it will have an inverted trough and plenty of Pacific moisture to work in its favor.

What is an inverted trough ?

An inverted trough bulges to the north. At first it may look like a ridge, but on further inspection it is a trough. Both a trough and an inverted trough have a cyclonic (counterclockwise) flow pattern. A trough will tend to have more westerly winds associated with it while an inverted trough will tend to have more easterly winds associated with it. Tropical waves will show up as inverted troughs because they are generally south of mid-latitude high pressure and have easterly wind associated with them.

Please see THURSDAY SNOW on the site. It should be up after 9:00am. Rather than get into each model I'll just give you the totals since we are within 48 hrs of the event.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CALI CRUSHER NEXT WEEK
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I call the next week storm the Cali Crusher for one reason ? It crushed California with tornadoes, floods mudslides and more. It was right out of "The day after tomorrow" movie.
Wow does this have great potential with the EURO model leading the way with a big snow here. The new run does a 1996 track with all the bells and whistles. The old run shows the LOW bombing out at 976 mb or 28.82 right over Philly. Now that would be rain for us but the new run in takes it more south of here and east off the NC coast. The same track as '96 but a bit stronger than 1996. Hmmmm. This is only one model but I have favored the EURO 5 days out more than the GFS. If this model were to be right on.....uhhhh 2 feet of snow my friend.

The GFS says it's weaker and wetter with no snow here as the secondary LOW forms over Michigan. The lowest it can get NAO may make the GFS wrong, very wrong. Besides, the GFS has been all over the place beyond 4 days. I'll keep an eye on it but will wait until Friday to take it more serious.

CMC-GGEM Oh Canada

Oh we see the BIG LOW at 988mb or 29.17 but place it 50 miles west of Baltimore. The crabs get churned on the Chesapeake and we see rain and wind here as the storms tracks west.

JMA---Japan Looker

Just like the GGEM but even further west and it pops the LOW big time near Orange Country in Syracuse. Rain and wind here but no snow.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WHAT I LIKE ABOUT NEXT WEEK !
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A few things are in our favor here. One is the -4 slotted NAO. This is a very good indicator for nor'easters. It is as LOW as it can get, but is it too LOW on the scale ?

March moisture mops its way east. The Cali storm has huge moisture with it and the southern stream is ready to pop like my son waiting for Grave Digger at the monster truck show ! March is spring in the south and this allows more moisture to flow north.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

stiller fan
02-25-2005, 04:12 AM
WHAT IS AGAINST US NEXT WEEK ?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Plain and simple, it's March. Odds go against us due to longer days and less cold to tap. Storms in March are a 50/50 snow or rain hit.

NAO too low ? If the NAO is too LOW this could carve a track up the coast but inland a bit due to the cold air locked too far south. It would take a U shaped path vs. a NE path. That means the storm would circle around and head in toward us. As always, time will tell. So for now welcome to the Turbulent TEN. Ten days of fun and maybe some wild weather.

*head spinning*

anyway....

don't knwo what the grand total was in pgh, but i know the snow hung around a bit longer than they originally predicted and we got more than the original 1-3 predicted, which was increased to 2-4 in the morning yesterday, and again increased later in the day to 3-5 or 4-6 depending on which forecast...

snow tires? in *almost* march? why?? i've lived this long! :blah: forget the slick roads and stops on steep uphill slopes or the fact that i seem to live on top of a mountain right now.... :lmao: i made it yesterday and today with no problems at all in my crappy bridgestones! ;)

but i guess i should make every attempt to get some new movies this weekend in case we manage to get any significant snowfall in pgh! :)

Although it cooled back down to the low 70's, the kids were swimming again yesterday. The pool is up to 77-78 now. I don't get in until the 80's & prefer warmer.

We should've been washing Hondas, but didn't. This week we'll be in the upper 60's & sunny till Friday.... so maybe I'll get her shined up again. She's really not bad though, just a coat of dust & pollen. If she were silver, she'd still be looking great! :D

Not sure if this was earlier in the thread, but for those of us "old enough" in New England, the blizzard of '78 was pretty bad. I was in college at the time, and remember slogging thru 3+ feet of snow with some frat brothers only to find out Burger King was closed. :bawling:

Back in the early '70's I remember keeping a log of the snowfall amounts up here and seeing totals in the high double-digits or low triple digits for the year. Nothing close over the last couple of decades in terms of seasonal total. Winter Storm Watch

URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LA CROSSE WI
402 AM CST MON NOV 14 2005

...WINTER WEATHER TO AFFECT THE AREA TUESDAY THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT...

.AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE WILL STRENGTHEN AS IT MOVES THROUGH THE
PLAINS...AND THEN NORTHEAST INTO THE GREAT LAKE STATES REGION BY TUESDAY
EVENING. GULF MOISTURE WRAPPED NORTHWARD INTO AND AROUND THE LOW
PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL RESULT IN AREAS OF PRECIPITATION TO THE
NORTH AND WEST OF THE LOW CENTER. THE PRECIPITATION WILL LIKELY
START OUT AS RAIN DURING THE DAY TUESDAY...BUT THEN MIX WITH AND
EVENTUALLY CHANGE OVER TO ALL SNOW BY TUESDAY NIGHT. A SIGNIFICANT
AMOUNT OF SNOWFALL WILL BE POSSIBLE ACROSS PARTS OF IOWA...MINNESOTA
AND NORTHERN WISCONSIN. THE MOST FAVORABLE AREA FOR SIGNIFICANT
SNOWFALL CURRENTLY APPEARS TO LIE ALONG AND NORTH OF A LINE FROM
ROCHESTER MINNESOTA TO BLACK RIVER FALLS WISCONSIN. SNOWFALL
TOTALS OF 4 TO 8 INCHES WILL BE POSSIBLE ALONG AND NORTH OF THIS
LINE....WITH LESSER AMOUNTS SOUTH. IN ADDITION TO THE
SNOW...STRONG NORTHWEST WINDS WILL OCCUR ON THE BACKSIDE OF THE
DEEP LOW PRESSURE AREA...WITH WIND GUSTS TO 45 MPH POSSIBLE.
THIS MAY CAUSE SOME BLOWING SNOW AND REDUCED VISIBILITY. AS A
RESULT...A WINTER STORM WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR TUESDAY AFTERNOON
THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT FOR PARTS OF SOUTHEAST MINNESOTA...NORTHEAST
IOWA...AND WESTERN THROUGH NORTH CENTRAL WISCONSIN.

THE EXACT FORECAST TRACK OF THE LOW IS STILL NOT CERTAIN AT THIS
TIME. ANY SHIFT IN THE TRACK OF THE LOW WILL CAUSE A CHANGE IN
WHERE THE BEST SNOWFALL POTENTIAL WILL EXIST. STAY TUNED TO NOAA
WEATHER RADIO OR YOUR FAVORITE MEDIA OUTLET FOR THE LATEST
INFORMATION CONCERNING THIS DEVELOPING WINTER STORM.

Damn... Oh well we'll get some sooner or later, I'm confident of it. I just hope it isn't a freaking blizzard all season like last year. Snow is cute one or two days but after that, fuhgeddaboudit...

.short Term (tonight)...

Dry Slot Will Result In Showers Tapering Off...but Given How Cold
The Airmass Is...a Few Showers Will Persist Overnight.

Sc And Lake Effect Snow Showers Will Edge Eastward Thu Am...but
Best Chc Of Lake Effect Will Be Thu Afternoon Into The Evening
Hours...as Winds Shift More To The W-nw. Since Some This Snow Will
Fall During The Aft...and Ground Is Not Real Cold...hard To See
More Than An Inch Or So...perhaps A Little More In The Far Nw
Corner Of Warren Co. Followed Mid Shift Numbers For The Most Part.
Lakes Are Quite Warm...may Be Harder To Bring Winds More To The
W-nw Than Normal. See Additional Information In Aviation Section.

.long Term (thursday Through Wednesday)...

Winds Will Be A Little Slower To Shift Back To The W-sw...more
Like Late Friday Instead Of Thu Night. Not A Bad Day For

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION

.SHORT TERM (REST OF TODAY)...
NO SHORT TERM WEATHER PROBLEMS TO DEAL WITH.

FAR TOO EARLY TO CONJECTURE OVER THE MERITS OF INDIVIDUAL MODEL
RUNS FOR MONDAY AND TUESDAY...BUT CONSENSUS FORECASTS DATING 5-7
DAYS HAVE INDICATED MAJOR STORM POTENTIAL FOR THIS COMING MONDAY-
TUESDAY...AND NEW INFORMATION IS NO DIFFERENT. ASIDE FROM THE NAM
WHICH IS CURRENTLY ON ANOTHER PLANET WITH THIS UPCOMING STORM SYSTEM...
ALL SIGNS POINT TO SIGNIFICANT STORMINESS...BOTH WET AND WHITE...
AFFECTING PA LATER MONDAY THROUGH MUCH OF TUESDAY...FOLLOWED BY A
PROLONGED RETREAT INTO THE ICEBOX FOR THE THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY AND
BEYOND.

&&

.PREVIOUS DISCUSSION...
(ISSUED 200 AM EST SAT NOV 19 2005)

SHORT TERM (TODAY THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT)...
MID CLOUDS OVER THE NRN 2/3RDS OF THE FCST AREA SHOULD BEGIN TO
MOVE NORTHWARD DURING THE PRE-DAWN HOURS. WILL THEREFORE MAKE FCST
MORE OPTIMISTIC FOR SUN TODAY. THIS (AND THE WEAK SWRLY FLOW AT
SFC) SHOULD HELP TO BOOST TEMPS TO LEVELS MUCH ABOVE YESTERDAYS
COLD READINGS. CLEAR BUT NOT AS COLD TONIGHT WITH WAA UNDERWAY. 8H
TEMPS UP TO +1 OR 2C BY SUNDAY MORNING. SUNDAY ALSO LOOKS MOSTLY
SUNNY...DESPITE THE APPCH OF A DECAYING FRONT FROM THE NNW. IT
WILL WASH OUT ALONG OUR NRN BORDER AND CAUSE LITTTLE GRIEF
LOCALLY. NO PRECIP WORRIES AT ALL THERE (OR ANYWHERE IN THE CWFA
THRU MONDAY AFTN...SEGWAY...

LONG TERM (MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY)...
PREVIOUS NIGHT/S GFS SOLUTION OF DOOM AND GLOOM MON-TUES (RAIN
TURNING TO SNOW) OVER THE FCST AREA IS GAINING SUPPORT FROM OTHER
MED RANGE MODELS...AND HPC...AS TIME DRAWS NEARER. WILL THEREFORE
BE BUMPING POPS UP CONSIDERABLY (HIGH CHCS) FOR THE MON AFTN THRU
TUESDAY TIME FRAME. WILL ALSO START TO MENTION RAIN CHANGING TO
MIX OR JUST PLAIN SNOW MON NIGHT FOR THE NWRN HALF OF THE CWFA.
THIS STORM COULD GET REALLY NASTY FOR THE REGION IF THE STORM WERE
TO TAKE A MORE-EASTWARD/COASTAL TRACK LIKE THE NAM/DGEX
SOLNS...WHICH WOULD POUR COLDER AIR INTO THE WRN MTS AND CHANGE US
OVER REALLY FAST MON NIGHT. OF COURSE...THAT IS A DRIER SOLN...TOO
- KEEPING MOST PRECIP TO OUR EAST.

WILL START TO MENTION THIS MON INTO TUES EVENT IN THE HWO DUE TO
THE IMPACT IT COULD HAVE ON HOLIDAY TRAVELS AND POTENTIAL THAT THE
GFS SOLN WORKS OUT - OR GETS WORSE THAN THAT. OVERALL...LOOKS LIKE
A MAINLY RAIN EVENT FOR THE SUSQ VALLEY...BUT RIDGE AND VALLEY
REGION AND NWRN MTS AND LAURELS COULD HAVE SIG SNOWFALL ACCUMS MON
NGHT AND TUES...AS A CLIPPER ZIPS IN FROM THE NW AND POTENTIALLY
ADDS COMPLEXITY AND LENGTH TO THE EVENT. REST OF EXTENDED
UNCHANGED WITH MANY CIPPERS TO COME BY IN FAST W/NW FLOW PAST
TUESDAY (INCLUDING ONE ON THANKSGIVING DAY).
