View Full Version : Wheel care in winter

I'm wondering about proper care of the factory alloys in winter (they salt the roads in Ohio like they have nothing else to do)
Other than trying to keep them fairly clean, which can be impossible some weeks, what steps can I take to protect the finish? Would a coat of wax help?
Also, based on experience, how durable is the finish on Honda's factory alloy wheels? Mine are spotless, except one chip from bumping a curb while parking.
Buying a set of steel rims and snow tires is out of the budget this year, so I gotta get by with what I got.

i just plan on cleaning mine as often as possible. i figure some of the quick detail spray may help, so even if it's too cold for a full wash of the car, i'll be able to keep the wheels decent! the sentra's alloy wheels have been durbale over the 3 winter's they've been thru and without much care at all (they have NEVER even been waxed/polished), so i'm hoping my accord wheels can be kept even nicer thru the salt and snow! ;)
i also plan on applying some of the klasse stuff periodically to help protect them. :)

That's what I was thinking, I use the armor all spray cleaner, maybe I'll just hit them with that once a week. The wheels look so nice, it'll be an adjustment when they're constantly gray and dirty.
I haven't had alloys in a few years, and the last ones I had were a painted finish, which looked the same (to me) dirty or clean.

Either Klasse AIO or Collinite 845 two of the best for longevity..

Cool, thanks for that...I've been looking for a car wax as well, I had been using the blue Zymol, but it only lasts thru two washes, then it wears off.

Does this Zymol bottle say Chicago, IL on the back?
I use Meguiar's #20 for car & wheels.
