I don't remember the exact steps but the owners manual for our 02s had step by step instructions.
Owner's manual. It depends on the type of garage opener you have too. I know the one at my house is super easy and takes all of 5 minutes. The one my grandpa has on the other hand took two people, a ladder, a lot of reading (this was on an audi put pretty much the same concept).

Yes, the instructions are in the owner's manual. There are two different sets of instructions... depending on if your garage opener has rolling security codes or not.

My garage opener has rolling codes and I couldn't get my Pilot's
to work. I'm not going to program my accord because from what I read, the key does not have to be in the ignition for it to work. This worries me because, if you leave your car outside, someone can break in your car and then easily open your garage.

Well thats possible with any garage door remote opener. Even if you hide it, the fact that you are able to remotely open your garage gives that away. Seems like a risk for anyone with a garage door opener or homelink that may be parked in the driveway.

True, that's why I take my remote in with me. I believe Lexus vehicles with homelink need the key in the ignition in order for it to function. Makes sense.

Another option would be to enable the lock feature on your garage opener at night, which would prevent any remote from opening the door.

If I recall correctly, it was a little tricky getting it programmed when I did it. I think had to try it a couple times before I realized that I was doing something wrong. The instructions are very specific, so make sure that you're following them closely.
