: sales slipping
04EXNavi 11-04-2004, 04:12 AM http://www.hondanews.com/CatID1007?mid=2004110352409&mime=asc
Overall Honda set another records for October sales, but the Accord once again saw sales fall...this has been happening for the last several months.
It's obvious that most of us love the car, but why do you think the sales are not as strong? Is the market too competitive, with too many new models vying for attention?
What should Honda change to get the Accord sales rising again?
stiller fan 11-04-2004, 04:21 AM i honestly feel that when they did the design for the 7th gen, it was too much of a departure from what honda customers are used to....maybe go to more of a subdued style in the next re-design, with cues from both the 6th and 7th gens....

 Every manufacturer's sales are dipping off!!! 1. election year 2. time of year 3. economy.......
If I had the time I would pull sales figures for all manufacturers and you could see that it is an industry wide problem!!
Another thing is the 0% interest scheme that the finance companies have going on..
Think about this 0% cost finance co. 4-6k on vehicle.
If they lease they take the risk of losing 10-15k on vehicle.
So which route would you choose??
I1:)
according2me 11-04-2004, 05:58 AM I choose the route that keeps my current vehicle on the road for a long time. At least until another redesign.:)
04EXNavi 11-04-2004, 06:06 AM I haven't checked to see how the other mid-sized sedans are doing lately - what worried me is that in the past, the Accord seemed to shrug off the industry sales trends...maybe those days are over?
anysia 11-04-2004, 07:21 AM i think in terms of shrugging off sales trends you also have to look at the severity of the declines.... i also don't have the exact figures, but from what i've heard and read, most other mid size cars are struggling alot more than the accord. the accord still seems to be bucking the trend a bit. while it may not be gaining sales while others are losing, it still seems to be holding closer to steady, while others are supposedly losing significantly.....
i know the appearance of the 7th gen may hinder some sales, but in general i think most car buyers aren't as concerned with the appearance; they tend to buy a car for the type of car it is..... i know that's how my parents have always "worked". they buy the car that fits their needs. they could care less what the car looks like....

that is the more likely culprit. the used car market is overflowing right now. all those 0% incentive programs have done their job and gotten cars out of the showroom the past couple of years.
they may have worked too well. might be a few years before sales start picking up again as i doubt most folks would be able to afford a new car every couple of years.

except for anysia... :)
04EXNavi 11-04-2004, 11:39 AM The sales drop hasn't been steep for the Accord, only 5-10% each month. I thought a car that was such a break with the previous generation would sell better.
Camry sales were up 7.2% last month, but I think they have some financing. I don't think there's any deals on financing right now on Accord.
I'd just hate Honda to see flat sales figures and conclude that this design direction didn't work, and make the 8G model a bland Camry clone to increase the figures.

anything is possible if you buy the "right" cars!!! it's a well known fact that alot of cars don't hold their value.... lucky for me, mine have held their value really well! (thanks honda!!! :D )
now look at the people who have bought some of the "other cars".... supervisor with a cavalier, took a huge hit on it, then a used montero sport, anothe rhuge bow (ended up financing about $2500 more than sticker on the equinox she bought as a result!) or how about my brother in law who had to roll $7k into his new car loan for his 04 chevy malibu to pay off his 95 mercury?? YIKES!!!!
meanwhile, i've actually had "equity" in each of my civic's!!! (not that that makes it smart to keep trading them in, but hey, as long as i'm not upside down on the loans!)
Pairallel 11-04-2004, 12:23 PM I have had 3 friends ask me for help in purchasing a new midsized sedan in the last month. I pushed all 3 in the direction of the Accord for 6 cylinder performance, highest ratings, pricing, etc.
The first (21 years old) went with the Mazda 6 because of the youthful aggressive styling and a very attractive 48 month lease/buy program.
The second (46 years old) went with the Mazda 6 because his wife's mid-life crisis demanded the aggressive styling (in electric blue, no less!), as well as the financing deal on '04 leftovers.
The third (40) went with the Camry SE, because of the looks and probably because of his familiarity with Toyota (traded in a 2000 Solara).
From this small sample, I am starting to wonder if the Accord is just not exciting enough in exterior design to match its under-the-hood excitement.
I am still shaking my head over these 3 - especially after I laid it on so thick about my wonderful Accord. :(
04EXNavi 11-04-2004, 12:39 PM I talked my roommate into an Accord instead of the Monte Carlo he was considering...I didn't have to push too hard, I just let him drive mine:)
If the Mazda 6 hatch was available when I bought my Accord in January, it would have been a hard choice, but I'm sure I would have stuck with Honda instead of a Mazda with a Ford engine.

This proves that so many people buy with emotion and not common sense IMO;)
Also too many Americans have become so accustomed to a disposable product society. They look at everything in a monthly payments and never step back and realize what they spend to drive a vehicle.
The 6 will not hold value at all compared to the Accord and Camry.
Granted I find the new SE to be as close to an Accord as any other Camry has in many years. But Honda has them all over on the interior!!

anysia 11-04-2004, 02:49 PM not making good money by far.... just making the "right" choices with cars! ;)
i dunno, some people have asked ME what "pre-mid life crisis" i was going thru to trade in my 'family" sedan civic with at for a sporty accord coupe with an mt.... :lmao: i guess everyone has different opinions on what's aggressive and what isn't. (although the accord sedan isn't as "aggressive" as the coupe. and i admittedly would've kept my civic for awhile longer if the accord coupe looked more like the sedan!)
princess 11-04-2004, 03:01 PM We've done our part too!
Bought the '02 Accord Oct '01
the Pilot Aug. '02
& this Accord Aug. '03
I still can't hardly believe she's over a year old already!
